ok. so what's the real difference between like a vinyl screen material and blackout cloth? the blackout cloth seems to be almost completely smooth...wouldn't that be better than vinyl screens (think pull down screens) other than it's not quite as thick?

well, i made a 120" BOC diy tonight, and the screen is not very good i'm afraid. there is very little gain, almost .08 i'd say, and...it is so thin that the window behind the screen lets light through so the image looks like crap. i'm doing more research..but might just order some screen material which will be thicker to block the light..

or i might just cover the back with black thick material (like black felt) to see if that improves my picture. i sure had more gain with the elite 125" spectrum (even though it was wavy as hell) at least the image had more "pop" to it.

damn it..the search for the perfect screen image continues...anyone have some advice?

You sure you used BOC, no light should pass through.....

yes, get screen samples first before buying. Take your time researching, reading and testing. The company you linked in one of your recent threads will send samples to you. I'm sure the BOC company would have done the same thing. I'm not picking on you...but when thread titles have ASAP in them...it doesn't convey a sense of someone weighting all the variables, research and tests that will get you the results you want the first time. What it does convey is someone who is in a hurry. Usually when someone is rushed to complete a task mistakes are made.

+1

BOC = Black Out Cloth. No light will pass through this material so you must have gotten something else.

If you want a completely opaque material consider the Wilsonart laminate. I have a Designer White laminate and it's gain is ~1.2. Virtually indestructible and easy to maintain.

Yes, but I wouldn't buy it in a package where the material is folded. It might show when you stretch it over a frame. Instead, you should go to Joann Fabric and buy it (Roc Lon) from a roll. Bring along a cardboard roll 60" long and wind up the material around the cardboard roll.
