Official Onkyo TX-SR707 Thread [No Price Talk] - Page 56

Guys!!! So I made up my mind. I was going to get the 707 using AMAZON and they had it for $499.99 6ave.com. However once I clicked to go to cart AMAZON said i t was going to be 1-2 months before I get the receiver. I then wnet directly to the 6ave site and they were sold old.

I have search the net somewhat to see if I can find the same price range but no luck. Do any of you guys know what site I can go to?

I am trying to hook up my polk speakers to SR707(brought from Amazon a week ago). No sound is being output from SR707. Did anybody have similar issues?

I tried everything including resetting the Onkyo as mentioned in the manual. The speakers work fine with my Yamaha receiver. What am I missing? When the receiver is turned on, I am not noticing speaker layout (like FR, FL, SW, C etc.,) on the front panel. I even tried removing my surround speakers. Just trying to listen to radio (no input configuration required). The receiver tunes to radio stations etc., but no sound on any speakers. I am connecting wires directly to speaker terminals and the receiver (no banana plugs).. Can anybody please help me?
How good is Onkyo customer service..

Onkyo customer service is a fiction, it does not exist.

This is from the owner of a SR703, a SR707 and a CP-DV704.
Did you just get the receiver? has it worked before but just isn't working now.

The reason I ask is that several people have had a problem with initial set up because the volume was set too low. I know it sounds stupid but if this is the first time you are setting up the receiver, have you cranked up the volume?

Can you explain what am I missing? Should the connected speaker layout be displayed on the front panel for the sound to be output? Should I run audessey for any sound to come out?

Run the Audyssey set up so it can find out what speakers are connected and will tell you if any are wired incorrectly.

FWIW, I ordered this receiver from Amazon before Christmas when it said 1-2 months for shipping and they shipped it in less than a week.

Would either the 607 or 707 be suitable for driving these speakers in a 22x13x7 fully-enclosed home theater room?

http://www.sounddistributors.com/buy...heater+Systems

I guess I don't see why not, but the 607/707 seems to be fairly inexpensive compared to some of the other receivers that I see people using in their home theater builds. I just wonder why people spend $3000 on a receiver if they can get away with a $500 unit instead??

should be fine. The reason for more expensive receivers doesn't just mean driving speakers better. It usually means better feature sets. If you want an example of the features you're missing, just go through this thread and look at what people are complaining about

I tried running Audessey.. but all I get is wait message (with audessey blinking) I waited for 1/2 hour and stopped. I did not hear any tones from the speakers in that 1/2 hour. Is that normal.. I ended up stopping half hour..

any more pointers
You either have a bad 707 or something wrong with your wiring. It should only take a few seconds from the time you click Start for the setup to begin toning the speakers. Call Onkyo.

Just to double check the wiring, I changed the receivers to my old Yamaha.. and the speakers work fine. This tells me that there is nothing wrong with my speakers or wiring. Looks like I need to return the Onkyo.. too bad of an experience.. ruined my whole day..

is it that bad to get one reconditioned. One year warranty seems fine t me!
With factory reconditioning it is probably tested prior to shipping. The new ones may not be.

When I hooked up my new 707 the first time I originally thought there was a problem with no sound coming out of speakers. It was only when I turned the volume up to around -35dB to -25dB did sound come out.

If this doesn't work then I would try and return unit for another one or call Onkyo CS.

As opposed to pouring through all 56 pages of this thread, can anyone tell me if they're having a video issue that looks like frame dropping with this player?

I have an Oppo BDP-83 connected to this receiver (set up to output 1080p/24 from BD discs) and I'm noticing a weird phenomenon where there are occasional split-second video stutter or frame drop issues. Tonight, while watching Inglourious Basterds on BD, the video and audio dropped out entirely for about two seconds then returned to normal. This is the first time a complete dropout has occurred. I cannot seem to repeat the frame drop issue or video dropout as it always seems to occur in different places.

I have the player on the mid-level shelf of my Sanus Euro racks. I figure it is getting plenty of air (it has 1 and 1/8 inches of clearance on top and the sides of the shelf are open) but I can definitely feel that the receiver is very hot to the touch on top after it's been used for a while. After looking at a few random posts on this receiver, I'm wondering if heat is to blame for the intermittent video irregularities and if I need to move it to the top shelf and/or slap a laptop cooler on it.

Any thoughts or help would be GREATLY appreciated.

As others have suggested, please double check your volume control again. You have to turn the volume knob almost a complete turn around before you start hearing any sound at all. They are set extremely low at the factory. This has tripped up many here.

Check your manual and it recommends a LOT more than 1 1/8 inches above. I would definitely move the AVR to the top shelf or use a fan to move the heat away.

I picked my 707 up yesterday. But it looks like I'll be taking it back. The problem is clicking when changing modes while watching DirecTV (HR-21). I tried reassigning the listening mode presets. The problem is that when the source changes from 5.1 to 2.0 (audio changes at commercial breaks or changing channels) there is a click. The receiver does end up in the correct mode set but it clicks before that happens. The click does not occur though when the audio changes from 2.0 to 5.1. I get the same problem when I hook up the HR-21 via HDMI or component/optical.

I enjoyed the way the unit sounded with Blu-Ray but I also spend a bunch of time watching TV. So unless there's a quick solution I'm missing I'll be returning the 707.
What do you mean by "clicks"?? When you change modes, there are relays within the unit that necessarily need to switch the power routing. You can hear the relays in my older Onkyo SR600 when I switch between modes (5.1 -> Stereo, for example), but not WITHIN modes (PLII Movie -> PLII Music, for example).

I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to. The "click" is within the receiver, but it's not transmitted to the speakers. Is that what you are hearing?

I am referring to the clicks when switching modes. I have the listening mode presets for DD->DD and PCM->PLII Movie. If I'm watching a TV program that is DD 5.1 then switch to a channel with 2.0 audio there is a click in the receiver then ends up in PLII Move. When I hit the prev button on the DirecTV remote button to switch back to the program with DD 5.1 there is no click and the receiver switches back to DD.

I don't mind the clicks if say I'm switching from watching a movie to listening to a CD. But when watching TV it is pretty annoying to have it happen when changing channels or commercial breaks cause the receiver to switch.

I think I understand what you're saying now. It's during the transition between shows/commercials or similar programming where the receiver AUTOMATICALLY changes modes to accommodate the new incoming signal. It's not when you're pushing buttons on the unit manually to switch from 5ch to 2ch audio. When I change channels or when the TV program goes to commercial, my receiver switches between DD->PLII (5.1 -> 2.0 ch signal change) all the time and I do not hear any click at all. I agree that what you're hearing does not sound normal.

If you exchange it for another SR707, I would be interested to hear back from you to see if the problem is solved. I haven't read about that sort of issue before...
I really think all the PPl with the clicking problems are due to set-up issues
i have now set-up 3 Onkyo's
TX-SR606
TX-NR807
TX-SR707 this this mornibg
all to Direct-TV HR-22 DVR's & I have Never experienced the Clicks that some PPl are getting
It has to be how you guys are setting up your presets
Can't say what I'm doing right as I am following the guides on the quick set-up ,adjusting the speakers ,setting the inputs & outputs in audio & Then running the audessey set-up for my 5.1 speakers
I must say the TX-SR707 really is a Great A/V 10X better than the TX-SR606 it's replacing .. the bedroom Never sounded soo good !!!!
also I must add that I have turned OFF the up-processing on both my Sharp LCD's (42" & 46" Aquos )& let the 707 & 807's do the up-processing & am Very Happy with the out come ........

this REALLY was a Huge PQ difference with both the 707 & 807 over the 606 when watching Direct-TV & watching SD-DVD's than letting the Sharps up-process the signal

I assume you are repeatedly pressing the different listening mode buttons to cycle through the available listening modes: Movie/Tv : Music : Game : THX :

You could try re-setting the 707 to it's factory defaults - pg 121 in manual - to see if that helps.

I figured it out, if in menu 7-3 "HDMI", the audio is set to "TV out" is messes big time with the receiver options.

I wanted to have use of the TV speakers for a night when anyone is sleep, rather than the loud surround system, I'll just run a separate audio from the DVR to the TV.

My tuner now gives me all the listening modes.

Thanks

I have the same issue with my Dish box. I hear the click inside the receiver when it automatically changes from a DD program to a 2.0 signal. I do have it set to PLII for a 2 channel source, but I hear it click. I've just learned to live with it because it doesn't happen that often. The 707's benefits overshadows this one fault.

no clicking at all here, been set up with bluray and 360 for a few months...
