My display goes on and off. Does anyone know what causes this or repaired one with this problem before?

I am just curious if you found a solution to your problme. I have the same receiver and mine is now doing the same thing. The display just goes off and on randomly and now its very dim.

thanks

i used to have this same receiver and it developed the same problem after several years...display would flicker and fade randomly, but the receiver otherwise worked fine. i never bothered to figure out a fix before replacing it, but i always assumed it was a loose/failing connection because i could tap the display when it was out to make it come back on for a while. it's interesting to hear that other people have had the same issue...

I have not found the answer to this problem as of yet. I have not tried taking it apart to see if I can figure it out though. Let us know if you figure it out.

same problem for me too. I opened it up and couldn't find the cause. Must be a loose solder.

Bummer. I purchased a Yamaha RX-V863 to replace it for my main entertainment television area. I have the Kenwood sitting in a box for now. I would like to use it in another area if the display worked properly.

Sorry this is a response to an OLD post, but I have a Kenwood VR-6060 and I had this same problem.

After tons of googling/searching I finally came across an answer that turned out to be the exact same problem and solution for me to EASILY fix this intermittent display problem.

search for this and you will find the link that saved me: "just answer Kenwood VR-615 AV Surround Receiver"

the page comes up on justanswer.com

just in case that page changes or goes away, the deal is this:

check the solder joints on the FL display board.

basically take off the top of the receiver, unscrew the front portion of the receiver and flip it up, don't remove the front panel board, just inspect the solder joints running along the display pins. (LOOK EXTREMELY closely or with a magnifying glass, etc)

the outer pins on the VR-6060 are the power to the heater for the FL display and those are the most likely bad solder joints.

carefully re-flow any solder joint that is looking rough and fix it..
