PB10 or Paradigm PW-2200 ($500 vs $350)

I've found a Paradigm PW-2200 locally for about $350. But I've heard great things about the SVS PB10. The SVS would cost me about $500 shipped. Is it worth the price difference? It will be doing about 50/50 duty movies/music. I am probably going to pair it with some JBL S312 towers, which have 12" midbass drivers.

Thanks for any opinions!

I had the PW2200 and is a good solid sub, for $350 I'll get that one. It goes down to 18hz. I dont know about the SVS PB10 but I have a MFW-15 and compared to the PW2200 in a "small 2100cu/ft room" it offers more output but in SQ you wont be able to tell a difference unless you had both in room, so saying that probabbly you should save that $150 as I dont think the PB-10 will outperform the PW.

Thanks very much! I know the SVS is excellent, but if I can save $150 and get comparable results I'd rather do that. I asked him which gen it is; if it's gen 1 I think I'll go with SVS, otherwise I may pick it up.

Does anyone else have input as to the musicality and output of the PW vs the PB10?

I still cant get over the difference on the PB-10. You U.S guys can get it for $500 shipped whereas up here in Canada its $670CDN. WTF is up with that? I only paid $60 shipping, so....what gives?

I had a Pw2200 and my buddy a PB10.We compared them at my place and found the PW to slightly outperform the PB10.He has since replaced his PB10 with a PB12NSD.Results will vary in different environments but I don't think you could go wrong with the PW for the money, mine served me well for years.

Exchange rate + customs + profit (Sonicboomaudio gotta make some money too!). To me $670 is not a bad price.

Thats what I thought too - SVS sells their goods to Sonicboom, then to the consumer right? So basically for us in canada we have another middle man to go through.

I had a PW-2200 and its not the easiest sub to beat once properly setup considering the price you're getting. It will shake a room well with movies. In terms of musicality, it is not the best, but will do a decent job. Hopefully your mains have reasonable bass output.

Sorry, but the PB-10 is the better sub. If the money is important then get the 220.

I got the Paradigm for $325 . It sounds pretty good, BUT, the receiver that came in the HTiB that I have (Onkyo 6100) does not allow you to turn off the crossover to the sub. And since the sub has a physical crossover dial (low pass filter), I am effectively running two crossovers on it. One at 80hz from the receiver, and one at 150hz on the dial (the highest it will go).

Will these two crossovers being on simultaneously take away from the sub's output? Or is how it sounds now as good as it gets?

I guess when I get a new receiver I should turn off the sub LPF in the options in the receiver, right?

Okay, You can use both, but the lower value of the 2 will prevail. Example: If you are using the receiver as the crossover setting then leave the PW at max 150hz and tune your value throught the receiver ej 80hz. If you want to use the PW crossover instead then, set the receiver xover value at the highest ej. 150hz and then fiddle with the back knob in the PW xover until you get the setting you desire. ej. 80hz. Play with both and elect what sounds best for you. In my setup I left the subs xover at max 150hz and tuned through the receiver but if your receiver is lacking in setings then use the subs xover instead.
