Wow 18yrs, can't believe the wait is almost over for a new tonight show host. Now I don't hate Leno, but never did like him esp in the beginning when he was stealing from Letterman. I just watched the show for the guests, but now I can keep it on the whole hour with O'brien. Is it just me or do you guys like Leno better? I know....Johnny was the best. Btw Letterman should have taken his spot.

I like Leno, but I love Conan......Letterman does nothing for me (Letterman just seems kinda lame IMO). Looking forward to Conan come Monday

I don't love Leno, but as far as hosts go, I much prefer him over O'Brien. I really don't care for O'Brien at all. He has the mentality and personality of a 12 year old. Not just the jokes during the show, but that stupid stuff he does when he comes out at the beginning. It looks like stuff he made up when he was 12 years old, and for whatever reason (he can't come up with anything else maybe?) he continues to do it.

Now, as far as the shows themselves, I did like O'Brien's better - but only back when he had people like Robert Smigel, Louis C.K. and Andy Richter (the first time around) involved in it.

I'm hoping that having Richter there again can at least make it good enough for me to watch, although I would never expect it to be anywhere near as good it was way back when, because all those other good writers are long gone. Just like Letterman, O'Brien's show will never return to those glory days - their time has come and gone.

o'brien is a certian style of comedy, weird and self reverent. At least o'brein still does a monologue, Leno this past eyar just started doing a 15 minute version fo "the soup". O'brien knows he's not everyones cup of tea but frankly he gives good interviews and like colbert and stewart can roll with just about anything that happens live. He was the most interesting thing on Leno's final show and all he did was explain a clip and tell a couple of stories. All leno could do was nod and say"...yeah.....yeah....well ya know yeah"

Craig Ferguson.

A bit premature for a vote, don't you think?

I honestly do not understand the appeal of late night talk shows. Do people really like to watch celebrities drone on and one about their latest TV show/movie/album? I don't get it. Does it really matter whether it is Leno or O'Brian hosting while some starlet is rambling on about something that is totally irrelevant event in her life?

- I record the shows and usually only watch the skits and musical guest/comedian. I'm not a big fan of interviews either. It has to be someone really good looking or funny.

I'm excited for Conan's new era, but I'm worried that his current gaggle of hack writers won't be up to the task. There's a reason he was so funny during the strike...

I am going to wait until next week to vote so I can give Conan a chance. The few episodes I saw were not very funny. Conan grabbing his nipple isn't funny.

Yes, but it's very stilted, and you can't help but notice his eyes going back and forth reading the cue cards through the whole thing. And then he's always darting forward and back from the camera, which is pretty distracting and irritating.

Even apart from the jokes themselves (which I always thought could use a lot of improvement - but then, that just goes back to those "hack writers"), he could stand to be a lot better at delivering them.

Yes thats true ever since he had the heart operation he went downhill....understandable. Do you feel he was lame in the late 80's early 90's though? Back then he was just awesome, had the most hilarious bits like going out to the beach with those sexy models doing silly stuff and running out of the set.

I still could not fanthom to this day Leno practically ripped off his material when he was losing to Letterman in the early days. Cannot forgive Leno for that, it's one thing to be not doing good but unforgivable to steal other ppl's ideas to use on his monologue.

Well, to be fair, (and it's not that I didn't like his show in the early days, because I did - much more than any late-night show that's on now, that's for sure) Letterman "ripped off" a lot of his early schtick and bits from Steve Allen. He was the first one to do that "Man in the Street" thing, and some of those wild antics similar to Dave's "covered with Alka-Seltzer tablets dipped in a vat of water" bit.

Since its probably "cool" to like obrien & diss leno....ill do a costanza & vote LENO !!

Honestly, I have never liked Letterman....like I said, he just seems lame to me, but that is just my opinion....

I do like Leno. I just find his show relaxing.

I just love Conan though.....there is nothing I dont like about him. He is easily the best "on the fly" or "in the moment" talk show host IMO, and I think all his goofball antics/jokes, skits, etc.....are hillarious......He is just a funny human being and there is something very genuine to what he does that the others lack to some degree IMO. Last time I went to NYC (March of last year), one of my main goals was to see him, but I missed out by 8 people . Cant wait till tom and he will be on earlier which is another plus!

I liked Letterman when he was on NBC since CBS he just wasn't the same.

When I watch late night talk shows it's either Craig Ferguson or Jimmy Kimmel.

I like Leno, Letterman, and O'Brien.

For me when the writers strike happened the only one that was entertaining without the writers was O'Brien, he was ridiculously funny. I was actually sad when the writers came back because I felt the show was better without them!

I think Letterman is funnier than Jay, but I can't stand the band guy.

As far as Jay goes I kind of wish NBC would've taken up Top Gear and given it to him instead of having another talk show.

Overall, I'd pick O'Brien over Leno. In terms of the Late Night show that ran from 93 - 09, Conan's best bits were the comedy skits and his seemingly nonchalant mannerisms. What also works is that it looks like he's getting back his former sidekick, Andy Richter. The show, while still funny, lost some of its edge when Richter departed. But things such as "If They Mated," " Unnecessary Satellite tv networks," and one of my personal favorites, his spoof of 24, had no problem in tickling my funny bone. There are a few concerns about Conan hosting the Tonight Show, to which Jay had a great advantage. Conan's monologue just doesn't cut it for me. He also can get zany with his guests unlike Leno, who understands his guests a bit more and generates the comedy bits with them in a smooth rhythm. Still, I enjoy Conan more than Jay and think he'll do well and may even exceed other peoples' expectations.

I went with Conan though I did enjoy Leno in his old spot

Conan is a huge improvement over lame-ass, back-stabbing Leno. The guy is a vanilla-flavored joke. Letterman changed late-night talk and should have gotten Johnny's seat. He introduced Jay Leno to the world and Jay thanks him by stealing his rightful spot on the tonight show. Now Jay is doing it again by stabbing Conan in the back by hosting an earlier Tonight Show at 10:00. With any luck the guy will crash and burn at 10:00 and go back to obscurity on the stand-up tour.

Who made news this year on late-night talk? Letterman. His fued with McCain was classic and was partly responsible for McCain losing the election; his interview with Juaquin (sp?) Phoenix was legendary; his jabs at Bush were repeated all over the place. What does Leno have? Old people by the droves who watch his show because he's safe. Good bye, Jay, and good riddance. You've overstayed your welcome my 17 years.

I look forward to a long reign from Conan, and a continued presence on the throne by David Letterman, the true king of late-night. And then there's Ferguson (sp?); this guy is flat out funny.

This poll is worthless.

How can anyone vote, when no one has ever seen O'Brien host a Tonight Show? Yes, I know he's had Late Night, but the 12:35 spot and the 11:35 spot are two completely different things.

Call me after a year, then we'll talk.

? My 78 year old mother chooses to watch Letterman over Leno every night.

Letterman is officially an "old codger" himself now, and attracts a lot of the older people these days just for that fact.

I like Conan over Leno. Leno might be slightly more consistant then O'Brien, but when O'Brien hits the mark he's funnier the Leno.

Both have their funny bits, and both have their stupid bits. Many of Conan's bits, like the masturbating bear, I find downright stupid. I usually watch Leno and O'Brien on my computer, via an HD TV card. When a stupid bit or boring guest comes on, I just surf the web. It seems like none of these guys, including Letterman, can tell the difference between a stupid boring bit and a funny one. And then they run the bits into ground, even the stupid unfunny ones, by repeating them night after night, ad nauseam.

Still, I'd rather watch any of their shows than most of the prime time shows on TV.

You need one more choice in your poll - "None of the Above". I grew up with Carson, and quite frankly hated Leno and have never watched him. He dumbed down the show so much it was unwatchable for me.

i used to like Letterman, but he too wore thin for me, so I watch stuff I recored when I go to bed. If I had my choice I'd put Stewart at the desk on the Tonight Show, he knows how to do comedy and he also does a great interview when he's serious.

Stewart used to have a talk show at one time, on CBS I think, and he was canceled because his rating were too low. Of course, he's much better known now.

Nah - too smug for a lot of people's tastes.

He's where he is, doing what he is, for a reason. He's had his chances at the other stuff.
I liked O'Brien in the beginning years. But lately, he seems to be trying way too hard, and for me it just doesn't work. Leno on the other hand, has been extremely consistent.

I do think Craig Ferguson is freakin' hilarious.

Rush Limbaugh could do a better job than John Stewart. More people listen to Rush each day than watch Stewart. If you get Rush, you also get Ann Coulter who is easy on the eyes. They do good comedy bits together. Rush can do a great interview. Rush would win over middle America which is something Stewart can't do.
