Unless the online team and the offline team could learn to play nice with each other. I'm betting they don't though.

Anyway, I have a general question. I'm not as hardcore of a gamer as I used to be (a wife and kids will do that to you.) Most of my serious gaming sessions are now relegated to the PSP during business trips to Europe. Anyway, with the addition of a dedicated theater in the basement almost done and most likely the purchase of a PSIII I am thinking that I will probably do more console gaming in the future.
I must admit though that I am a FF whore and I have no qualms with saying that, along with the Dragon Quest series, it has been the main thrust of my game play over the last 20 years or so.
I've never played a MMO, as the notion of playing with a group of strangers has never really done it for me. Although a college roommate of mine pretty much shut his life down while being consumed into Ultima Online back in the day, I don't tend to play games for endless amounts day after day and can go a week or even a month between getting back to picking up the controller.
Could someone give a bit of perspective. Are MMOs worth anything at all if you don't play them continuously? Can a person have much fun with only playing one a couple times a month? Is it too much hassle to hook up with a group if you're only going to play it for an hour or two at a time?
I didn't play FFXI and it sounds like I didn't miss much. In truth, assuming FFXIII comes out anytime close to when they are suggesting it, and FFXIV comes out soon after, I probably wouldn't get finished with XIII until a year or so later. If you don't start an MMO when it first comes out, are you hopelessly behind the rest of the people playing when you do start?
