I usually just change channel then return or turn off and on (cant give more details on that as i havnt really troubleshot it yet, just chalked it up to the nav software) ill pay more attention to see if i can pin it to more specific circumstances. in fact i was going to delete most of the saved shows and see how that effected performance. I had always assumed the feeze on pause error was related to the disk but happy to find out its not. Overall very happy with the switch and recommend for those that need the space. its been great for the world cup. i believe that it is a number 10 torx. was an easy swap took 10 mins

Thanks for the update... let us know if any issues crop up. How long has the drive been installed? Must have taken a while to get it to 93%... that's probably about 120 hours of HD (based on getting ~40 hours on my 320).

Where are you located?

BTW, as a reminder, does somebody have a link to the replacement procedure handy? In particular, which torx screw driver do you need?

You can start HERE and follow along for a while. T10S on the case... all internal screws are standard Phillips...
  • Open case with T10S driver
  • Unplug SATA power and data cables from drive
  • Remove drive carrier bracket from chassis
  • Remove drive from carrier bracket
  • Install new drive on carrier bracket
  • Re-install drive carrier
  • Reconnect SATA cables
  • Close case
Undertake at your own risk and peril... All standard electronics handling precautions apply. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. Box will take an extra long time to reboot because it will need to reload operating system from headend.

Tks. I'm 90% sure I won't do this. Not because it's hard, but because TWC is otherwise still too buggy.

I am tired of phantom recorded shows that stop recording after some random amount of time and for no particular reason.

I'm on my second 3270 of the day and they are both doing crazy things. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem is, in general, that the box continually reboots when trying to change channels. It goes through the boot process (as if I had unplugged the cable) and comes back on fine. If I attempt change the channel once it is back on, it will do it again.

I got a lot of random errors if I watch it go through the boot process. Has anyone seen anything like this?

TW said the first box probably was bad and gave me a second, but it is doing the same thing. I can't figure it out.

That's TWC premiere service. All built into the price you overpay.

I think you might have bad signal levels which might be causing this issue. Call them and have a tech come out to look at your signal levels. If they are bad, they will then fix whats wrong. This box isn't as fault tolerant as the SA boxes.

I had exactly what you are describing the morning after the new ODN ver 3.2.0-15 was downloaded to my 3270. After making several calls to a Cust Ser Rep I know she finally referred the problem to Engineering and they discovered there was something in the DL which the Samsung boxes did not like. They worked thru it and finally around noon that day they called me to reboot and everything was working as it should. The spontaneous reboots stopped with that reboot. They wouldn't tell me what they did but it is working now. If you have that ODN ver on your box you need to get thru the CRS folks to refer the problem to Engineering. I am in the Triad area of NC in case they need to know what service area I am in. Good luck.

Is the FFW/RWD being jumpy a common issue?

I've had that problem since the ODN update.

Not all that familiar with the 3270, but the 3090 FF/REW has never been as smooth and consistent as in the SA/Cisco boxes. When 3.2.0_15 was first loaded, it was with firmware 4.3.5.0... and the FF/REW was totally hosed... made it completely unusable it was so bad. A couple of weeks after the initial 3.2.0_15/4.3.5.0 rollout, firmware 4.3.5.3 was issued and it fixed the FF/REW probblems... even improved it somewhat over the initial implementation. The Samsung FF/REW right now is the best it has ever been... but still not as good as the SA/Cisco boxes.

I have the 3270 w/ 3.2.0_15/4.3.5.3, and it's very jerky. I didn't have this problem at all before the ODN update.

At about 3:15 today, I was watching a recorded program. The image froze. I turned the box on and off and then I had my guide and info but no image showed on any channel.

After a reboot, my recording from today was deleted but a recording from a few days ago (that had been deleted) was partially restored.

Weird.

What's the way to reboot the 3270 without unplugging it?
Mine frequently freezes up when I hit Play after FF'ing through ads, and the only way to unfreeze it is to do a reboot.

  • Enter the Samsung diagnostic menu by pressing and holding the [Select] button for several seconds (about 7 works for me), then release and press [Up]. Works on front panel or remote.
  • Scroll down to "Reboot STB"
  • Press and hold [Select] until reboot begins.

Thanks. Once I'm in my recliner, it's awful hard to get up.

What is everyone using on Audio Output when using a receiver (STB>Receiver>TV) and HDMI? Specifically, a receiver with Audyssey and Dynamic EQ/Volume? I can't decide which setting (Narrow, Normal, Wide) works best

How many hours can you record with 3270, regular and HD programming?

About 40 hours of HD on the 320GB drive.

Thread Starter
Just wanted to say a quick good bye to this thread.

I'm the one who started it, waiting in anticipation of getting the Samsung 3270 unit from Time-Warner Cable San Diego, a major upgrade to my venerable SA8300HD box.

However, messages here (and on the local San Diego HDTV board) indicated problems with the Samsung units that TWCSD noticed, causing them to stop offering the 3270 and to switch to the Cisco 8640HDC instead.

Over the July 4, 2010 weekend, I went to TWCSD and exchanged my SA8300HD for whatever the newest and fastest box was. They gave me the Cisco 8640HDC unit without any questions needing to be asked by me. I now have it up and running, and waiting for it to record its first programs (it's going to be a very busy Tuesday on July 6 - recordings from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM!!)

Thanks to all those who participated and good luck to those of you who have the Samsung units. Hopefully all issues for you will be resolved.

Petrus,

For your application you want Wide. The other modes essentially compress or clip the low and High ends of the frequency band. In other words Narrow would be best suited to TV speakers. Normal for higher end TV Speakers and lower end AVRs with no sub. Wide if you have a higher end AVR and dedicated Sub or Full band Speaker (quite rare).

I tried to get into the password protected Diagnostics area on the Samsung 3090, but there was a three character password required to be entered. This is for TimeWarner NYC. Would anyone know the password?

It's 4 characters... used to be "3090" but it changed several firmware versions ago and the new password has not been disclosed (here, at least). Unless you want to do a factory reset, there's not much of interest in there. At one time there was a setting there that needed to be changed if you wanted to have 5.1 AC3 audio over HDMI (who doesn't, duh), but it has long since been defaulted as "enabled". If you are just curious, I have pictures posted at the beginning of this thread of what they looked like with the old FW.

Maybe that menu requires special equipment.

It didn't used to... here's what was in it:

We used to have to get into it to activate AC3 over HDMI (Option 14 on this menu), but that's not been necessary - or even an option any longer - for several firmware updates. Not much else overly interesting/useful in there.

The reason why I said the password was three characters because when I tried typing 3090, three asterisks (***) showed up onscreen so I'm sure it's only three characters. But if the area is not worth getting into then it really doesn't matter.

I'm looking to replace my 3090 with something else because it's always freezing when I pause it for a few minutes which is rather annoying. I'd considered putting in a larger drive, but I don't know if that would stop the problem. I'll have to see what's offered at my NYC TWC location. Maybe I'll try the Samsung 3270 or the Cisco 8640 HDC. I used to have an SA 8300 HD for about 4 years until the drive crashed and that was perfect for me. What's the best recommendation for a new DVR from TWC as far as overall stability is concerned? Thanks.
