Receiver that can do up to 3 zones that fits my budget

Hello,

I recently went to the Audio/Video show in my neighborhood and I fell in love with the Pioneer SC-07, unfortunately the price tag is a little to steep for me at the moment.

I am looking for something closer to the 500-700$ price tag, essentially i'd like it to have up to 3 seperate zones and capable of doing TrueHD 7.1

Can anyone name me a decent receive that can accomplish this?

regards,

Chris

3 zones is a high end feature. you could find a used / refurb Denon AVR 2808CI for your price range which does 3-zone, that's probably the best option if you MUST have 3 zones.

But have you thought about getting a standard, midlevel 2-zone receiver and just adding an external speaker selector switch? and just "split" zone 2 through the external amp?

Another thing to consider is that no receiver is going to have enough internal amps to power 7.1 in main zone + also power speakers in multizone. Any receiver that is doing 7.1 is going to require an external amp anyway for the multizone speakers, so just get a basic little 2-ch amp with A/B speaker switching (you should be able to find one for under $100 on craigslist/ebay) and hook it up to the Zone 2 pre-outs... voila, 3 zones!!

That is an excellent suggestion for 3 zones and what I plan to do. Zone 2 will be split to outside and another room in the house (living room/dining room) with an a/b speaker switch.

You can power a 7.1 plus 2 other zones, its called the Denon 5803 but for that cash you can just as well buy a couple of receivers to do what you want.

That's good advice batpig, can the speaker selector play the same source on both A and B if i wish too?

Coincidentally, I am looking to do exactly what tex94 is, I've put speakers outside and in the dining room and would like to be able to play music from a different source.

What good receiver can do 2 zones then?
