As you learned reading my post, there are three new firmware updates for your 790, however, as the Denon CSR indicated, unless you are having one of the specific issues that the firmware resolves, having them installed is not likely to help. Other than the strange "Sub Error 01" reading, you never have actually said what issues you are actually experiencing. What are they?

Hi, I have a Denon 1910 which has an odd issue, I wanted to know if anyone else has encountered this.

When there are thunderstorms, I live in a locations that has them every afternoon in the summer and the power goes out for a couple of minutes, the Audyssey needs to be rerun.

Also if I turn the power switch on the front of the unit off (not just standby) the Audyssey needs to be rerun.

Does anyone else encounter this and is there anything that can be done to not have to rerun Audyssey every time the power goes out, which is sadly often in this area.
What you are experiencing is not normal as the settings should be retained in the Denon memory for at least 1-2 weeks after power has been removed. There could possibly be an issue with the capacitor in your 1910. Have you tried using the RESTORE feature to restore the original AUTO SETUP settings or is there no information available to restore?

I mainly listen music in my 1910 using my iPod connected via USB cable and selecting NET/USB in the receiver.

Sometimes I would like to simultaneously listen to my iPod and watch video from my BD. I mean, get the audio from the iPod using USB cable and get the video from BD using HDMI cable. I've been trying to assign an HDMI input as video source for the NET/USB source but I can't figure out how to get it.

Is it possible?
You likely meant to post in the 1911 thread as the 1910 doesn't have a USB port. That said, the Video Select feature does not work with HDMI sources. Connect your BDP with component cables as well as the HDMI cable and then you can use the Video Select feature.

I have a 1910 like most of you in here, and I was wondering if anyone has purchased a Blu-Ray audio/video test disc that has DTS-HD MA or Dolby True-HD etc. for setting up their home theaters?
I called the store where I purchased the recevier from, and they said my best chance would be to go hunting online. Are there reliable sources you might be aware of?
Thanks,
K

what exactly are you trying to test? if you want a setup / calibration disc, I highly recommend the Spears & Munsil Blu-ray (aka the S&M disc ): http://www.amazon.com/Spears-Munsil-.../dp/B001UM29OC

it does have Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MASTER audio test clips.

I bought an AVR-790 back in Mar/10, from an authorized reseller. I did not have my TV or bluray at the time.. once I got my setup in place, the 790 worked for a couple of weeks and after 60 days of purchase, it would not output via HDMI.. tried resetting, called Denon customer service, bought new HDMI cables, to no avail.. I went ahead and shipped it for in-warranty repair. Since it was during the World Cup, I purchased an out-of-box 790 at the local Best Buy to take me through the games.. needless to say, within two weeks the unit had the exact same problem..
I returned the out-of-box unit to Best Buy and anxiously awaited for my repaired unit from Denon. Instead of repairing the unit, they shipped me a refurbished 790, which as I feared, after two weeks, it went down with the same old problem.. I tried resetting it, unplugging all HDMI, turning off my TV's HDMI-CEC feature, to no avail... I am at a loss but before I ship this unit back I want to make sure it is not something in my setup that is causing this.. This is what I have:

Comcast HD DVR, Motorola DCX3400 (Which was also replaced on my first 790, in case the cable box was bad)
Samsung UN55B8000 TV
Samsung Bluray player
AppleTV

I have one 25ft HDMI cable going from the 790 to the TV but also tried connecting it with a 5ft one, to no avail.. tried swapping all cables, resetting the unit, nothing has worked so far. I am about to give up on Denon and get another brand.. Is it me or am I incredibly unlucky??
Anything's possible, but highly suspicious that you had three defective units. Have you tried setting the 790 to resolution setting to either 720p or 1080i? Even though you tested with a 5' HDMI cable it could be the 25' distance that is causing the problem. Otherwise, I'd probably go with another brand in your case.
I just changed the output res., went thru the whole gamut, had no effect... Now, if the 25ft cable was causing the malfunction, why would it only show the effect two weeks later, and why wouldn't it work after changing to a 5 footer? This is really frustrating to say the least. I know denon is a good brand, remote control and manual design aside, so I am beginning to doubt myself.. Must be something I am doing..

Bought an open box 790 last friday to test out how well audyssey works and so far it seems to work pretty well and dynamic volume is exactly what I was looking for. Listening to it on midnight mode is the desired effect BUT doing so makes the sound (dialog) muffled at times.

I must note however that the auto calibration was done with my pioneer sc-05 mic since the open box 790 didn't come with one. It probably makes a difference so I will have to come back with updated test results once I get a hold of a denon mic.

I have also come across an issue last night while watching tv shows from netflix through xbox360. I would lose video for a sec but not the audio. It happened several times. For video my xbox360 is hooked up to hd pvr via component cable and the component cable going from hd pvr to receiver. For audio I have a toslink cable going from xbox360 to receiver. Has anyone else experienced the video signal loss but not audio?

Do you lose dynamic eq when you select dynamic vol?
No, Dyn EQ must be ON in order for Dyn Vol to be turned ON.

Also, it does matter which mic you use, so try and get a hold of a replacement Denon mic (DM-A409) which can sometimes be found on ebay for $20-$25 or from Denon directly.

My apologies for being unclear with my question. What I meant to ask was by pressing the dynamic volume button the reading in the lcd display switches from "dynamic eq" to "dynamic volume" and I was wondering if I was getting one over the other or its just a poor way of displaying the features that are enabled/disabled.
Poor way of displaying .... MultEQ must be on for Dyn EQ to be ON, and Dyn EQ must be ON for Dyn VOL to be ON.

Hi, thanks for the reply, sorry about my slow reply back.

That's the thing, the restore feature to restore the original auto setup settings isn't available.

When I got into auto setup, all I have is the option to redo the set up, I no longer have the parameters and the option to restore.
Likely a problem with one of the capacitors. I'd give Denon CS a call and get it repaired.

I mentioned that here once (that Dyn Vol sounds muffled) a couple weeks ago and got lambasted - one poster implying that it was a problem with my hearing. I'm glad to hear at least one other person who experienced what I did. But a bit later, Batpig posted a note stating that Denon defaults their DynVol to "maximum" and that the compression level can be adjusted to medium or minimum in the parameters menu.

I bought an open box 790 and got the wrong remote. I have found a few places online to purchase but if anyone is willing to sell an extra if they have it, please let me know. I suppose I will also try to sell or barter the remote (which I believe is for the 1911).
AVR-790 uses RC-1117
AVR-791 uses RC-1146

As you purchased the 790 from an authorized vendor (Best Buy) then you can just call Denon and send it in with a copy of your receipt for a free swap.

if you're going to invest money in a remote, don't waste it on the factory remote, spend it on a Harmony instead
post #7643 of 9205
Thanks guys for the quick responses. If they let me exchange it free, I will. If not, what are the best deals for Harmony remotes? seems like there are so many different units

I got a Harmony 700 at Fry's a few months ago for $79 after rebate. Soon after, Amazon dropped its price to match. They're now back up into the $100-$150 range.

Very happy with the 700 controlling an AVR 1910, WDTV, Panny BDP and plasma TV, and CD player. Nice ergonomics. It doesn't have a charging cradle but does use a wall-wart that charges via a plug-in cable. It comes with two 2000 mah low-self-discharge AA batteries (similar to Sanyo Eneloops) so doesn't need to be charged much (every ~3 weeks for me).

A comparison matrix is here so you can take inventory of how many devices and activities you need supported and see which models will fit:

You can also use Logitech's website to verify if your current devices are supported - the device programming database is at their site, so you query it via a web browser. For example, click on the "Features" link here, then enter your devices:

the best "budget" Harmony's are older models, I can personally recommend the 670 and 550 models (depending on whether you prefer the "peanut" or "wand" shape for your remote) in the $50 range (ebay or Amazon deals).

if you can spend a little more for a higher-end model but don't to spring all the way for a One, the 720 model ($80-100) is a great value. It has great build quality and a nice docking cradle to charge it when not in use.

Just wondering if someone could help me with my Zone 2 audio. I'm planning on sending audio from my computer to my AVR-790 for music. I then plan on playing the music in Zone two in the upstairs of the house. I know I need the input to be analogue in order for this to work. My question is how to I get analogue sound out of my computer? My computer has digital audio out and the colored analogue (3.5mm) outputs for computer speakers.

Any help on this would be great because I have to run any wires in the walls while my house is being built.

Thanks

just get a stereo mini-to-RCA cable (like this one) and run it from the 3.5mm headphone jack out to an analog RCA input on the receiver.
So even though my computer has plugs for rear, front and center/sub (black, green, orange) I can just hook it up to the green one and still get all the sound I should be getting? bass and all? (sorry if this is a dumb question, I just don't want to mess it up)

I thought I was going to need one of these.

oh, you have multichannel analog outputs.... I thought you were just talking about the standard stereo mini-jack output (e.g. for headphones or computer speakers).

if the signal is stereo, then you should be fine just hooking up the FL/FR output to an RCA input on the Denon. But I don't think it will downmix a multichannel signal to stereo analog output (although this may be specific to your computer) so if it's, for example, a 5.1 signal, then the stereo output would be missing the center / surrounds / LFE information.

so, in short, if all you want to do is send regular (2-ch) music to Zone 2, you should be fine.
Yeah, I think zone 2 is analog stereo only anyway. In that case don't use the surround app on your computer. BTW does the 790 even have zone 2? I own the 790 and thought that was one of the features that differentiated it from the 1910 (I don't use zone 2 anyway, as we utilize the 7.1 instead).
