RobLee,

Thanks that makes sense. I read in the AVR manual that I should keep it at 12 o' clock and thats really the only reason it was set higher than usual. Awesome time to get off work and recalibrate.
^^
The suggested starting point is 12 o'clock (med volume), however, if the Denon sets the sub trim to either +12db (too low) or -12db (too loud), then you adjust accordingly. Review Audyssey Setup Guide in my sig for more info.

So is OSD suppose to work over HDMI, i've read several post in this thread stating that it should, but mine will not function via HDMI.

My screen generally drops black and as i scroll through the menu on the AVR my tv refreshes but will not display actual text. I have reset the microprocessor twice since, but with no luck. If it helps i have also had some HDMI video dropout issues in the past.

Tv is an LG 50PK750.
Perhaps your TV cannot display 480i (anyone know this model?) The menu is always displayed at low resolution.
By the way, this is going to sound stupid, but regarding my previous post about my sub-woofer and -12db: Turned the sub down and re-calibrated using 4 positions and sounds and everything sounds amazing and balanced now at lower volumes.

Side note, on the negative dB scale, what would be considered a normal listening range?
^^
As long as the Denon sets the sub trim to below -12db (eg. -6db) then you're good to go. You can still raise the sub volume with the remote (CH Level) if you want more bass effect. Average listening master volume would likely be -30db to -20db (TV) and -20db to -10db (movies).

Hope this helps...Let me know if there's anything else you think of that may help me get to the bottom of this..

Anyone??? Please!! :-)

This is such a baffling problem... I really have no clue what's going on, but I bet it will turn out to be something very simple. I guess the one big question in my mind is, why is all your equipment in the basement, so far away from the display? I'm wondering what would happen if your equipment was located together where you can try various configurations.

Some of the darndest things can happen. I have several media players - all the same model... one of them absolutely refuses to work with the Toshiba LCD in our bedroom, but works just fine on the Sony in the living room.

Thanks for the help. I wonder if the HDMI board is shot.

The equip is in the basement so it is hidden from the main viewing area (family room -speaker wire is ran to the basement through the wall, as well). Not only is the Media player not displaying (both Audio/Visual) but the cable box isn't working when connected through the AVR. When both devices are connected directly to the TV (via 75' hdmi cable), both work from an audio/visual perspective.

Hi badluck, see if you get video with analog to HDMI using the cable as the source.

JChin -

Again -thanks for attempting to help me.

I just connected PVR to AVR using Component. Then, I connected AVR to TV, via component, and saw contents of PVR. No HDMI was used throughout...Again, looks like HDMI (In) slots 1-4 are shot.

HDMI out appears to be working when AVR is connected to TV via HDMI out. The reason I suggest this is the fact that I can see the AVR on-screen controls.

Final thoughts before it goes back to Denon for support? I've played with the AVR setup to ensure HDMI is activated on the appropriate "IN" ports, etc.

I've had my AVR1910 now for just under two years, and just today, I am no longer getting any sound through the center channel. I've tried replacing the speaker and speaker wire, and no luck, leading me to think something's gone bad internally.

When I go into MENU-MANUAL SETUP-SPEAKER SETUP-CHANNEL LEVEL-TEST TONE START, I'm getting nothing from the center channel. The center is still set as small in SPEAKER CONFIG, so I know that it's configured correctly. I'm starting to think the center channel amp might have blown on me.

Any ideas?

If you confirmed the speaker is working via another speaker post connection, then try resetting the microprocessor (p. 64), keeping in mind it will reset all settings to factory defaults and require you to run AUTO SETUP again. If still no joy, you'll likely want to get it to an authorized repair center before your warranty expires.

This did the trick for me. Thanks very much for the quick reply and solution!

Someone please help me, I just got a Wii and can't get the audio to work. I have my video going to component 2, and the video is fine. I have the audio going to the analog DVR red and white inputs. I heard I have to change input mode to Analog but it won't let me, it will only stay on EXT. IN and it says EXT. IN on the front of the AVR. By the way, I have the AVR-790. I can't even play my new Wii that I just hooked up because I have no audio and don't know what to do.
If you are using the COMP2 default source name (DVR) and the analog cables plugged into the DVR inputs and have INPUT ASSIGN (HDMI) set to NONE, then you shouldn't need to change the INPUT MODE.
I had assigned my component 2 to TV, after I assigned it to DVR and switch the mode to analog, now I have my audio. I set my Wii to surround, but what do I set my DVR to, Pro Logic II? I thought since Wii is supposed to put out a Pro Logic II signal, that when I hit STD on my remote it would only go to that, but it lets me switch. Unless Pro Logic II isn't an actual signal and you have to manually put it to that, I don't know.
PLII is a simulation mode taking 2.0/2.1 to 5.1. You can use the STANDARD setting DD PLII - Cinema for all sources which will play the DD/DTS 5.1 as is and simulate 5.1 from 2.0/2.1 sources.

I guess if a game has Pro Logic 2 they send the stereo signal a certain way so when you set your receiver to Pro Logic 2 it sounds good. I set my receiver the upconvert the image too, though I really couldn't notice a difference between the upconverted image and the 480p non upconverted one. Either way it sounds really good and for it only being 480p, doesn't look half bad either.

This may have the same conclusion as:
post=7842

My wife was exercising to a pilates DVD on Saturday and the sound and picture went away. My TV (Samsung) indicated "NO SIGNAL". I tested the HDMI cables from the DVD to the receiver and from the receiver to the TV by using them to go directly to the TV from the DVD player, and they worked fine. I hooked up the receiver to the TV via HDMI, component, and composite to see if I could get he setup menu. No signal on all three. I reset the processor as per the manual, and no luck. The display lights up and the unit responds to the remote, so I'm thinking that something died in the output side of the unit. I don't think it was lightning related as everything but the buttkicker amp is plugged into the same power strip and they show no odd behavior. We had an electrical storm on Thursday before, and everything was working Thursday and Friday.

Anything I missed?

I'm having a weird issue....

Half the buttons on my Denon 1910's remote aren't working.

The source selection buttons on the back of the remote no longer work and the on/off button is also not working (unit has to be turned on by hand).

However, the volume buttons, dynamic eq, ect are all working fine.

Has anyone experienced something similar to this, is there a way to fix this without having to buy a new remote?

After further playing with the remote I was able to figure out the problem.

The device select button had been pushed over so only some of the buttons were working.

If anyone else has an issue like this, make sure to check the device select switches.

Hi,
Been reading manuals and forums, can my AVR-1910 do 2 Video OUTPUT from same IN source?

For example take:

- HDMI 3 IN
- HDMI OUT + Composite/Svideo/Component

Not with HDMI input, there is no "downconversion." But all the video outputs are "hot" at all times as long as the input signal is the correct format.

See the pretty chart with arrows on pg 9 of the manual, that answers your question.

UPSCALING - I'm having a small issue re 1080p from my video player. The 790 doesn't like the HDMI signal if I set the player to output 1080p, but anything 1080i or lower it seems to like.

So I'm wondering if, since presumably the upscaler in the 790 is probably fairly high quality, would I be better off just leaving the player at 480p and let the 790 upscale entirely, or should I set the player to 720p or 1080i so that it does part of the upscaling and the 790 does the last bit, or should I just go with 1080i?

Okay, I know the most obvious answer is "do whatever looks best" but I thought others may have been down this road already. I'm assuming that 480p means the player is doing no processing and therefore the 790 would have a native signal to work with, and so the Denon doing the 480->1080p processing would be best.
The most obvious answer as you note really does apply as unless someone has the exact same model source device and the exact same model TV you have and is seated the exact same distance from the TV and has ... well, you get the idea.
Well, I just had the exact same issue again the other night with my center channel as detailed in post 8472. While resetting the microprocessor worked for me the first time, I didn't want to deal with having to reconfigure everything from scratch AGAIN, so I played around with things and got it fixed without having to do the reset. Here's what I did:

1. MANUAL SETUP -> SPEAKER SETUP -> SPEAKER CONFIG and set the Center Channel to NONE
2. Exited from MENU
3. Powered off AVR (standby only, not a full shutdown)
4. Powered on AVR
5. Back to MANUAL SETUP -> SPEAKER SETUP -> SPEAKER CONFIG and set the Center Channel to SMALL
6. Exited from MENU
7. Profit

I may have recycled the power a second time after setting the Center back to SMALL, I just don't remember off hand. Now I just need to figure out what's actually causing this to happen in the first place and prevent it from doing it again in the future.

Anyone have any ideas on what could actually cause this behavior in the first place?

can this receiver do standby pass through?

I'm having issues with A/B speakers.

My setup in a nutshell: HTPC HDMI out -> Denon AVR-1910 -> 5.1 speakers (and Panny plasma)

I'd like to set up 2 separate rooms which each have their own speakers.
The main room has the 5.1 speakers and the second room is stereo. As I understand it, you can toggle between the speakers/rooms with the "SPEAKERS" button on the AVR, which switches between A only, B only and A+B. This is exactly how I would want to toggle between the speakers in my rooms.

Now this is how I wired the speakers to the Denon:
"Main" speakers (i.e. 5.1) go into the bottom connectors (A, FRONT/CENTER/SURROUND), while the stereo ones from the second room go into the top connectors (B, FRONT). The "SURR. BACK / AMP ASSIGN" connectors are emtpy.

I have to admit that I'm not entirley sure what "SURR. BACK / AMP ASSIGN" does and that I might have to use that instead? (Also, what exactly can ZONE2 do? Could this be interesting for me too?)

Anyway, the problem is that when I switch between A only and B only, my center, surround and subwoofer from the main 5.1 speakers always stay on (even in B only).
So I guess what it does is, it switches the front speakers to the ones in the second room when set to B only and outputs to both front speakers (A and B) when it's set to A+B.
The way I want it to be is that it REALLY only uses the second room stereo speakers when I set it to B only (i.e. silence in main room). I suppose it's just some setting that I have to set (or I messed up entirely ).

Hope someone can help me! Thanks!!
