I wouldn't recommend simply "blowing" into the headphone jack (rather use compressed air) as you very well may have introduced moisture from your spit which may have resulted in a short circuit. Try inserting/removing the headphone plug a few times and see if that resolves the issue. If not, try a microprocessor reset and if still no joy ... pop the top and see if you can find a blown fuse. If still no joy after all that, then likely it's either repair/replace. If outside the 2 year warranty, and you purchased with a credit card, check with your card provider as they may add an additional 3rd year of warranty (Amex does this and some MC/Visa providers do as well).

yeah, doesn't sound good then...tried the h/p jack in and out yesterday, looked for fuses as well (i counted 3, are there more?) and did a microprocessor reset....damnit, if i lose a perfectly good avr b/c of some freakin headphone jack dust that's just miserable...and hell, i'm sure a repair isn't warranted as these are cheap now...yeah, and of course 2 months out of warranty...worst of all is my tv is a commercial panasonic (no speakers), so no more TV/movies for months in all likelihood...thanks for a horrible design flaw denon (and i dust my cabinet weekly)...

It's almost as if it lost the "relay" allowing me to change inputs...before, when I would switch from dvr to tv, etc, it would get the relay "click" that occurs when it is shut off, when you mute etc...now, that click only comes when it starts up...doesn't occur with mute, switching inputs, etc. and the SP light will not come on no matter what i try...

I'd give Denon a call as they are known to extend their warranty a couple of months beyond the 2 years.

I sent my 1910 in for a recent firmware update, problems with Blu Ray. It's out of warranty. It came back cleaned, fixed and at NO charge...

FYI .. Denon made a warranty exception in the case of the Star Wars firmware update.

I still gotta get around to taking care of that. My 790 is still just under 2 years old, but it's the hassle of disconnecting everything and pulling it out, boxing it up (still have the original box) and most of all, living without it for a few weeks.

It definitely cuts out on SWII/AOTC and probably will also on SWIV/ANH... that doesn't trouble me as much as the possibility that some future BR release may have the same issues.

If there is an authorized repair facility in your local area, they can likely do the firmware update while you wait if you can schedule it with them.

Is there an adapter that would work to attach a coax cable TV cable into an AVR-790?

I can't post links until I have three forum posts, but it's Amazon product # B000V1JUKY that I'm interested in using to convert the signal.

I have a feeling that this wouldn't work, but I may be mistaken.

Even if you could there is no point because receivers don't have cable tv tuners.

Thanks for the quick response batpig.

Attach your TV cable to the TV with an optical cable from the optical audio out jack on the TV to the 790 and you should be good to go.

I am using my 790 in stereo-only operation 99% of the time. Am I getting only 90 watts per side? If so, can I set the amp-assign to "Front Bi-Amp", connect the amp-assign connectors to my Front LR speakers (Bose 601 IV...i know, i know...don't hate) and get moar power?

you aren't getting 90 watts per side, you are getting whatever is needed given the volume you are playing. It's not like it continuously pumps out exactly 90 watts at all time. The 90 watt spec is just at a chosen impedance + distortion threshold, but the amp could be putting out 1 watt or 20 watts or 120 watts, depending on the load. The tradeoff is that the more power you ask it to deliver, the higher the distortion gets and eventually the amp starts clipping.

the limiting factor is the power supply which is shared by all the channels, so bi-amping doesn't really free up more power. The more channels you are driving, the less available current there is for each channel. so you aren't really gaining much by bi-amping with the receiver. You can certainly give it a shot if you have extra speaker wire lying around and want to test it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll hook it up that way.

I'm glad that I found this forum, the resources that you've put together are amazing. Thanks to everyone for their efforts!

Ahh that's the kind of answer I like to hear. I might try it and see what happens, I'm now thinking not much will change. Thanks!

Guys, what do you think about the kit 5.1 Harman Kardon HK-ts20bq? it matches well with the Denon AVR-791?

I found this kit at a price that fits in my pocket for the Denon 791 I want to buy together.

My use will be music (50%) and movies (50%). Room Size: 3 x 4 m.

I do not need much power, but it a good sound quality.

Other suggestions and cost-effective in the boxes is welcome.

Thanks for your attention.

Not familiar with it, but it does get good reviews on Amazon.

Hello to everyone from Greece. I have a question about my 1910. Suddently my menu text on screen dissapeard. I cannot display menu text to my TV LCD (connected with HDMI). In manual setup - text options - onscreendisplay - text on everything look right but the problem still exists. I did many times reset (on-off & suround mode buttons) but nothing. I have HDMI Video Out to my TV from any source but when i press menu button the screen becomes black but no text. Any advice? Thank you in advance.

Did anything change in your setup? Does the OSD not appear with any device connected? Try leaving the unit unplugged overnight.

No changes in my setup. I turn it off every night but nothing. Thank you.

Physically unplug the power cord over night and then do the reset procedure upon powering it on again the next day.

I have been enjoying my 1910 for a year now but last night I turned everything on for a movie and there was trouble.
Everything was working fine and then the sound went out. I checked MUTE and all of the connections but still no sound.
I unplugged it for about 10 sec.
Should I unplug it for a longer period and plug back in to see if it reboots?
Seems strange that I would lose sound like that.

This may be the result of dust on the headphone jack. Try blowing some compressed air into the headphone jack or insert/remove a headphone plug a few times.

I had the same problem. The headphone jack was the culprit. Denon told me not to blow into it though as your breath has moisture and could do more harm than good though.

That's why you use a can of compressed air.

Unplugged for 8 hours. SOUND IS BACK

Thanks for the help. I will keep the dust in the headphone jack thing in mind just in case.

Great! Although wouldn't hurt to use the compressed air or H/P plug if you've got either handy as preventative maintenance.

Too bad you don't get a dime for every time you've suggested that!
