That's the one I am trying to get, if BB doesn't get out of stock. You still find it on the stores, not on-line.

In any case it might be my ticket for this first try at media centers, maybe later getting a more sophisticated unit, like the C200 or the Dune.

My cousin is trying to get that WDTV Live for me. If he can't I should go for the ACRyan perhaps.

2) Technology can be considered mature, only the network side being different.

3) The WDTV 1 is very popular in Brazil, probably the most, which means local forums can help me with eventual problems in setup or files handling.

As for now, it sounds quite interesting.

Careful not to get carried away... It may not be as good as it looks. I don't believe it can even play DVD menus (yet)?

How do you mean, could you please be more specific?

I have several Ts, Mpeg,MKV files and Video_Ts folders.
How i can set information on these files, so the media library can reconize the genre, actor and so on.

Imagine a mp3 file tag, where we set the artist, genre.

Unfortunately only .divx and .av files support tagging as an MP3 would. So in that sense, it's not possible to set that.
post #488 of 885
So the media library is no use for those files.
post #489 of 885
You could always try converting the media, but that'd be too much trouble. So in that sense, it's really not working as of yet. Have you tried tagging the matroska file? :O

It's good to have ACRyan's support here. You guys need to be better communicative about order acknowledgement, delays & shipping. Due to lack of response to my e-mails before, I ended up opening a dispute with PayPal for the order I placed directly off your website. The refund came with a delay acknowledgement & apology three weeks after the initial order.

I decided to give this another chance & ordered a unit off eBay. My brite-View is going back as I really want a device w/internal hard drive capability. It appears only one seller has PlayOn units on eBay. Wanted to order from GizmoDaddy, but it says "Sold Out - Available on 10/5/09." Do they realize it's 10/16? Also, their main page says 10/15. I never saw anything about the delay on PlayOn's website. C'mon, how hard is it to show a consistent, up-to-date status?!

With so many similar media player options these days, the primary thing that's going to make one stand out against another is customer service & attentiveness. Not asking for the unreasonable here, but just be honest & communicative about product/firmware status/delays, capabilities, etc. This is why I'm sticking it out with Syabas & the C-200, which I also have. The Xtreamer folks are also doing it right.

I love my POHD. I only want a YAMJ type GUI to make it better. Love storing my DVD ISO libary on it as well as mkv's and avi's.

Nice move PlayOn! This is the new paradigm isn't it?

I'm in the US and I placed and order on Oct 13 and then I received a confirmation for it, but they also told me that due to US customs inspections there would be a delay. I just wanted to know if there has been any update concerning when the shipments may go out. I completely understand and I am not mad at all (plus they offered me the usb n-adapter for free as a way of saying sorry!) I just want to know if anyone knows anything new concerning this.

Thanks
post #494 of 885
I'm in Canada and ordered on Monday October 5 and never received an Order Confirmation until I sent them an e-mail on Thursday October 8 and they then sent me the Order Confirmation on Friday October 9. They told me that they can't confirm the Shipment Date yet because of the U.S. Customs problem. They appologized but they didn't offer me the free WI-FI USB. They better start offering better customer service or else they will lose customers.
The AC Ryan Website as wel as the U.S. Distributer should update their websites and give out more info. Right now their dates are wrong.
post #495 of 885
Hmm, that's odd. I received the confirmation less than 12 hours after I placed my order without me having to ask for it. And if they offer US customers the usb dongle due to the customs problem, then anyone affected by it should also have the same offer I would assume. Maybe it just wasn't mentioned in the e-mail?

And they should put on their website that there is currently a problem with the US/Canadian shipments because it's pretty shocking to learn that your order will arrive at some point in time, but there is absolutely no estimate. I would have had less of a problem if I knew this while placing the order, not after.

Here is the e-mail I received:

Quote:
Dear xxxxxxxx,

We have received your order of Playon!HD, as well as your Paypal payment - thanks!

Your sales order confirmation number is #########.

However, at this moment we are having some difficulties with shipments in USA and would like to explain it to you.

Normally, the players are in stock in our warehouse in Toledo, Ohio and are sent immediately (within 24 hours) and a tracking number is then automatically sent via email. However, this automatic chain of events is interrupted now as we are going through an inspection from the US Customs Office. During this time the players are with the US Customs for their inspection. Although we did not forsee this, we now understand that this is quite common for new products starting sales in USA (esp. Media Players).

Our USA Team is working on assisting the US Customs with their inspection, and fully cooperating with their requests. However, it has taken longer than we expected. Once the inspection is completed, deliveries will be resumed. We cannot confirm the exact date yet as this depends on the US Customs Office. We will be making an official announcement regarding this, and will personally keep you updated with the progress. We hope for your understanding and patience.
a) We do understand if you choose not to wait with us for the customs inspection to be completed, we will offer you a full refund.

b) If you would kindly wait with us for US Customs to complete their inspection, we appreciate it much and would like to offer you Free Wireless-N USB Adaptor.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask, we are here to answer them.

We apologize for your inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding.

So far I am not angry about any of this, I just am getting a little antsy not knowing when I will receive it because I am quite excited about using it!

MMM, I ordered mine on the 16th of October, still with the offer with free shipping in the US. I didn't receive my confirmation yet. Why don't they update there site with this info? They did add shipping cost the next day on the site, but it still states that it shipped with in the US. Whats going on Chris?
post #497 of 885
If you go to gizmodaddy.com, there's a message about delay until 11/1. I re-ordered from eBay after the seller told me he had these in stock, but it turns out he uses ACRyan's Ohio distribution site as well. He now tells me he will check when they'll ship. I give up.
post #498 of 885
Well, I'm glad I got my order in before they stopped allowing them for now. At least I will get a free USB n adapter because I was actually going to buy a wireless n router and set it to repeater/client mode specifically for this.

Hello ACRyan Chris,

can this media device play my MKV smoothly 1080p @ 23.976 fps on my HDMI Samsung LCD TV LA27S71B, 60hz ?

my Samsung LCD TV does not have the 24 Hz setting
post #500 of 885
what are the wireless USB adapters (non-Acryan) that are compatible with the POHD ? Has anybody been able to stream successfully with any other USB adapter other than the one being sold by AC Ryan ?
post #501 of 885
Holy cow, weekend's over with and boom, posts en masse.

Now to start this off, I'll try to address people's questions as such. Damn guys. :P

@Brajesh

I'll get back to you on that as soon as I can, there's some internal issues but I'll be able to advise sooner or later, Monday noon here in Holland so we'll do our best.

@telemike

Our upcoming firmware will have tiny GUI fixes for the time being, expect a GUI overhaul towards of the end of the year.

@kjgarrison

Don't know how much help one man can be, but I'll try my best to help out as much as I can. besides, I can only relay information to you guys as I receive it, so bear with me.

@Linknight & danlac

Our stock is usually sat in Ohio, but still, due to U.S. Customs, we are unable to send it out, there's nothing I know at the moment, as soon as Customs releases the stock, we'll be able to do more. Bear with us and we'll get it sorted out as it's not our fault as yet. :P Should ya choose to wait, we'll get ya your free Wireless-N USB Adaptor to ya asap.

@diversify

I don't know about gizmodaddy, they have their own rules, but they are dependent on the stock, which, as stated above is still in Custom's hands, so they just try to assume. All I can say is please bear with the situation.

@preacher1010

It should be able to do just fine, the player supports it, so it will adjust to the TV output.

@digi_dark_lord

It's very difficult to say at the moment as it's a conflict (most likely) with the Realtek chipset, so others might work but requires a lot of trial and error.

There we go, that's the questions answered for now. Again, if any more questions do pop up, please post them here. Don't bomb me with questions.

Greets,

Chris

Chris, thanks for the answer. But to be clear: i did not order with Gizmodaddy. I guess I have to wait on customs too. But I ordered mine on the 16th, paid with paypal to ACRM International BV. But have I have yet to receive any confirmation or answers to through email.
I understand the situation but I don't really like how (non) communication is handled about my order. Your (hxxp://www.playonhd.com/en/#buynow-usa) website is still not saying anything about that on it is not on stock. At least Gizmodaddy does.

If you need any details to check on my order or confirmation let me know.

Hey diversify,

Could you please PM me your email you used for the ordering? I'd look into it myself to see where and what went wrong, cause as it stands, I can't do much.

How's the volume loudness on the POHD ? I read a few stories on other forums that its on the lower side and for some files the volume needs to be turned up to 100% to hear the dialogues. Read this even for the Xtreamers so must be the realtek chipset problem. Can other users of POHD confirm on this ?

Also what's the current status on the DTS-MA and DTS-TrueHD support?

The two features are currently giving us a wee bit of trouble and will most probably not be in this coming firmware update. Many apologies, please bear with our firmware department.
post #506 of 885
I'm planning to buy a POHD with a hard disk, install it in the living room and use as the main storage for my film and pictures.
In the future I want to buy something cheper (WDTV live or ASUS) for watching movies in the bed room and connect both players via LAN.
Question: Will I be able to play the files stored on the POHD hard drive with the second player from the bed room?

thank you
post #507 of 885
You are able to do just that, yes.

Chris
post #508 of 885
I know its not an essential feature, but are there any developments in the pipeline for something like the Iphone/windows mobile based remote control that Xtreamer guys have developed (available only in their firmware 2.0) ?

http://forum.xtreamer.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4524

Looks a cool feature. The reason is, it obviously has to work thru Wireless LAN only. And that would mean one doesn't have to point the Iphone or the Windows based phone towards the unit directly. From what I read last, they are porting the application on symbian too. Lot of added convenience I must say.

yeah. It looks like an issue with realtek's licensing rather than ACR guys. But I hope it's available soon.
post #510 of 885
It is indeed an issue with them, but we can do nothing but wait at the moment.
