Looking for recommondations for in wall speakers

Thread Starter
Looking to install a 5.1 system in our living room and use in-wall speakers.

Was hoping to spend no more than $2,000 to $2,500 for the set up -- could spend up to $3,000 or $3,500, but the improvement would need to be compelling. Along the same line of thought, if I could spend $1,500-$2,000 and end up with a value system, that'd be acceptable too. To me it's less about absolute objective performance (after all, this is mostly a TV and movie watching room with lots of furniture and ambient noise) and more about "bang for the buck". Brands/Names are unimportant. From what I've read, having a complete enclosure (not an add-on) is also a requirement.

The room is large (22' x 27' and 20' tall).

Will be using an Onkyo TX-906 to drive them.

Primary material will be movie sound tracks and some pop, r&b, and classical music . . . but neither my wife or I are the type to sit down and "listen" to a disc beginning to end.

Thoughts? Recommendations? The other threads I've seen are about 18 months - 2 years old, so I wasn't sure if they were still valid.

Trident seemed to be a brand that got tossed out a lot. Still the case?

cant really give you advice on inwalls, not really my area...

i CAN tell you this though, that is a pretty big room. meaning when you listen to certain music, and especially when watching movies, you really shouldnt cheap out on your sub. with 10,000+ cubic feet, you may even want to pick up two subs and go for a 5.2

ask around in the sub & bass area. hopefully theyll be able to point you in the right direction. but watch out, based on some of the threads ive seen there, sometimes thing can get pretty over-the-top

let us know what you choose to do

Does that budget include installation of the inwalls? Just fishing the wiring will take some bucks on a 5.1 system.

For that budget, you can get some really nice speakers for a 2.1 or 3.1 system.

Or low to middle of the road when you split the budget into a 5.1 system.

I highly recommend RBH sound for in-walls. Couple their inwalls with an SVS, HSU, eD sub, etc and you should have a nice sounding system. You can find local dealers by visiting their website www.rbhsound.com

If there is no local dealer in your area they will sell to you direct.

With your size room, you may also want to check out Klipsch inwalls as well.

You're definitely going to need some output capability... This is what I might do:

Klipsch R-5800-W for your L/C/R, can be had online for $280 ea
http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/r-5800-w.aspx

Klipsch R-5650-W for your surround, can be had online for $250 ea
http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/r-5650-w.aspx

Elemental Designs A5-350 sub $800

I guess you can cut a hole in the wall for the sub if you have to.... Total $2140
