Hello:

I'm having an issue with Netflix streaming from PS3. When i stream stereo content it's fine, but it's with the stuff that's in 5.1 dolby digital plus.

On the PS3, i went through the Sound settings and went with automatic, and it picked every option, when i watch 5.1 content i hear everything except for the dialog. On the 590 display panel, i see dolby digital plus, "Stereo", and the blue HD audio.

So i went into the 590 menu and under audio options when i toggle the auto surround from on and off i get dialog, but i have to do this every time.

I went through the PS3 sound settings again and tried picking just the PCM audio output options, but i still don't hear the dialog.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

This is really bizarre, it sounds like you are losing the center channel content. What happens when you disable DD+ output for Netflix (i.e. force stereo output for these movies). Does it happen with anything other than Netflix streams?

Batpig,

Thanks for the reply.

When i go the the netflix content and select stereo, it works fine, i get stereo and i can hear the dialog.

When i play BDs and DVDs from the PS3, older stereo content as well as new multi channel content, it seems fine as well.

the content i was watching was season 4 of sons of anarchy. When i get home from work i'll try to find other streaming content on both Hulu Plus and Netflix to see if it happens there as well.

I took the holiday break to move some things around, the 590 was in the living room, but i moved it to the bedroom, so maybe i need to do some sort of reset and start all over?

My 590 is messed up. After turning it on, it will play a few seconds, then I hear a loud pop, and it shuts down, and the red light around the "standby" button flashes. I called the local authorized Denon service center, and the tech said it sounded to him like it is a bad power regulator. He said IF that's the problem, it's between $120 and $140 to repair. They give free estimates, so I will let them look at it and see what they say, hopefully that's all it is.

I have tried re connecting all speaker wires, and other connections, AND doing the "microprocessor reset" The first time I reset the processor, it actually ran for about 5 days with no shut downs, but then it started again, and is even worse now. I also tried the compressed ait in the headphone jack trick to no avail. Wish me luck !!

Try doing a few microprocessor resets in a row but if still no joy, will likely need repair/replace. Although your 2 year warranty expired April 2012, if you purchased with a credit card, check with your credit card provider as they may extend the warranty 1 year to April 2013 (Amex will for sure as well some MC/Visa providers). If you are unable to get the warranty extended to pay for the repair work, you may want to consider putting that repair money towards replacing it with a newer model that includes networking, eg. 1613.

I did the reset several times, and I bought it at Best Buy with their card, so no luck there, as long as it is under $200 to get it fixed, I will go with the repair. I like the fact that the 590 will convert component to HDMI, the newer Denons ( in my price range ) do not do that anymore.

I just picked up a new blu-ray with a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 soundtrack. I have noticed multiple instances throughout viewing of the film that the sound drops out. I am playing the movie with a Sony BDP-S185 and all the devices are connected using the Forest HDMI cables from Best Buy - Magnolia HT. This is the first soundtrack I have every had issues with. I know it is not the disc because the sound skipping does not occur in the same location in the film if I skip back to reply a scene in question. Any help is appreciated!

Are you bitstreaming to the receiver? If so, try setting your Blu-ray player to decode the audio and send Multi channel PCM over HDMI.

Also, turn Deep Color off on the BDP if you have the setting (most Sony players have it on by default, but it offers no benefit and increases the bandwidth needed for video data over HDMI, which can lead to audio issues.)

I have turned off the Deep Color on my Sony BDP. I have also tried the 7.1 soundtrack without Dynamic EQ turned on and the sound still skips. I thought turning Dynamic EQ off would work as I have a similar sound skipping problem with the Dolby Digital output from my PACE HD-DVR. In the case of the PACE turning off the Dynamic EQ for watching television cured my sound skipping issue. It appears as if my two solutions are let the BDP do the decoding, or buy a new receiver.

My 1610 wont stay on. I turn it on and it stays on few seconds they turns off. Red blinking light. I messed with all connections and still does this. I also unplugged all speakers and tried, still nothing. So i unplugged everything and plugged into a different outlet and still did the same. Any suggestions? Its about 3 years old.

If it is shutting down with no connections (sources or speakers) and the power ring is flashing at a fast rate (ie. every 1/2 second), with clear and open ventilation, then the unit may be having amp failure problems. As a last resort, try resetting the microprocessor (p. 57 OM). If still no joy, then you may still be able to pursue warranty repair. If purchased from an authorized reseller, the unit would have a 2 year warranty, however, if purchased with a credit card, your card issuer may add an additional year making it 3 years (Amex will for sure as will some MC/Visa) so it would be covered for repair/replacement if still inside 3 years.

I read through most of this but didn't see if there is an easy way to get a 590 to have two zones. Basically, I want to use my receiver for my 5.1 HT and use it to control 2 speakers on my deck. I dont want the speakers on the deck to be on unless i select them, though. Any ideas or help is appreciated.

Can't do it. It's a 5.1 receiver and doesn't support zone 2.

Unless you upgrade to a newer 7.1 model or a 5.1 model with Zone 2 pre-outs, as batpig notes, not possible with the 590. At a minimum you could get audio to the deck speakers with the 590 by connecting a 2CH amp (or older AVR) to the Surr Back pre-outs on the 590 and then use the "7 CH Stereo" surround mode (w/Audyssey turned OFF).

Quick question on the 1610 Audyssey setup:

Finished going through the setup and it set all of my speakers to large ... under the Auto Setup screen I cannot edit any of this information. I can edit it under Manual Setup however. So if I edit them to small speakers under the Manual Setup screen, is it still using all of the Audyssey parameters that it calculated during the Auto Setup? And when I cycle through the MultiEQ settings on the remote, do I need to set it to Audyssey or Manual to get these Audyssey settings with the small speaker settings I changed under manual setup? I just want to make sure I'm getting both ... the Audyssey setup info and the small speaker w/ 80Hz crossover settings.
The AVR will always display the original AUTO SETUP settings under the Auto Setup menu (so you know what you would return to if you use the RESTORE feature) while any edits you make in the Audyssey Manual Setup will be the current "active" settings that are used. Additionally, you will select "Audyssey" rather than "Manual" on the remote as "Manual" in that sense refers to adjusting the Graphic EQ which disables Audyssey.
Thanks ... I was pretty sure that's how it worked, but now I feel much better about my setup. Do you suggest 60Hz or 80Hz as the crossover freq? I have HTD Level 3 5.1 speaker setup and a SVS PC-12 Plus sub.

When I connect the HDMI cable to the tv and the 1610 and can not pull up the menu what could be the problem? I had an installer tell me I had a bad hdmi port? This is probably a dumb question, but I had no were else to go.
