Denon AVR-4310CI Thread - Page 104

Hi,

I ordered the new NIC card direct from Denon Canada and got it in 2 days for $80 bucks shipped even though I was told $96. Also, I phoned Denon Parts when I noticed that I received the original part #CM860-3 instead of DM860 and asked that he send me that one instead. The rep said he'd talk to his senior tech and call me back in a few minutes and when he did I was told that the DM860 matches up with the 3310 and that I received an updated CM860 card for the 4310. Perhaps that's why there was a driver update notice in the above post? Don't know.

In any event, popped the card in, did a reset, shut it off and when I turned it back on again, hallelujah it was ready to do an update. Everything went smoothly but I admit I was still waiting for something to go wrong. Address was assigned, Internet radio & USB kicked back in as well as near instant switching between sources and soundfields. Hopefully this will be the end of this issue for good. I'll be the first on the horn if it isn't. Thank-you very kindly to all memebrs for pointing me in the right direction.

Threw a few pics up of the process below.

p.s. The NIC card is right on the very top layer of the receiver once you pull the housing off, can't miss it! I did have to snip off a cable tie though because it was pinning the card down. It's just like changing a stick of RAM, really easy to do.

Add me to the list of do it yourself warranty repair. After several conversations with Denon I decided to purchase the card after seeing the reports here. With holidays just weeks away I did not want to ship the unit out and decided to order direct from Denon. They do have a 30 day return so if there is an issue I am covered. While searching I also found the part for the 3310 and 4310 are different which I am not sure has been mentioned here. Description is the same but the part number is different.

Bring up your internet radio on the AVR and then hit the center control button on the remote (the button surrounded by the up/down, left/right buttons). Hold this button down to Stop the internet radio; merely switching inputs does not stop the streaming and this will interfere with uploading your current configuration file. I had the same problem as you described until I realized that the internet streaming was still on, even though I wasn't using it at the time.
Hope that takes care of the problem!

Thank you sir It worked !

When connecting the Denon Link input to a compatible Denon Blue-ray player, Is a Cat 6e cable ok to use or is a specific cable needed?
Yes, Cat 6 will work just fine, unless of course you want to purchase the $10,000 Denon Link cable from Amazon?

$10,000 blue cable - wow I had to go look. I saw that there were 402 reviews so I started reading them - hilarious stuff.

Hi, gumbob,

Was just wondering if this is an actual list of parts from Denon or an after market parts company. If it is an official parts list released from Denon, I'd like to pass it along to the rep at Denon Canada since the card I received from there is still marked as CM-860-3 instead of DM-860 (although it is working just fine). He said this issue was known and that the CM-860 was the only card they stocked for the 4310 and that it would have been updated. Would like to get to the bottom of it. Thanks!

Hy, the USB connecting problem happened to me. I'm from Brasil and there is no denon assistence here. I'd like to know where did you buy on internet (which site) the cm860. Thanks a lot

I found these lists on the pacparts website which is an authorized Denon parts supplier. I am not sure how current the part list is but the fact that they are published on the web I am sure you can send them to him. I ordered mine today direct from Denon with over night delivery which only added $8 to the shipping cost. I will let you know what I receive and how it goes.

Looks like my NIC died too yesterday after 13 months of use, iPod USB is dead too

Tried resetting, but that did not solve anything other than losing all my settings.

Anyways, I have sent a mail to support to see if they can fix it under warranty.

Synch,

I believe you have the correct card. Mine arrived today and it is also marked with cm860-3 just as the old one does. The CPU on the card is a DM860 by a company called BridgeCo and I guess this is why Denon calls it a DM860.

When I spoke to Denon about having mine replaced they insisted that a tech had to do it because they had to reprogram the MAC address into the AVR. When I first powered mine on after the card swap I went into the firmware status screen and it did not show a MAC address nor did it show any firmware revisions for the DM860. I had about a 2 second panic and then this data popped up and the MAC address displayed was indeed the new address. I performed a firmware upgrade then a reset on the AVR and have gone in and reconfigured my settings. All seems to be working fine at this point. I hope this answers your question.

The waiting game begins...

I took my 4310 into a nearby service center for repair. The guy there seemed all too familiar with the network card problems.

When I showed him that the AV cuts out when muting and switching inputs, he was bewildered. He had never seen anything like that before. Maybe he can roll back the firmware, maybe he can't. I bet I'll end up with a refurb. Whatever....as long as it works, that's fine. Never. Updating. Again.

Way to go gumbob. Thanks for verifying your card with me, I really appreciate it and that does answer my question! The only number that stood out to me was the CM-860 on the sticker. I'm glad things are getting back to normal for everyone making the effort to purchase and replace these Network cards, hopefully they'll last this time!

Hello,

Many of us suddenly encountered the exact same problem that you have just described which is fixed by simply replacing the Network card. It's easy to change by yourself, but if you pay the service centre, keep in mind that it only takes about 5 - 10 minutes to do so.
It would fix the network card, yes, but my 4310 has two problems, with the network card being the lesser problem. The main problem is that a July firmware update causes my 4310 to lock up and lose picture/audio sporadically.

I won't have to pay anything. It's under warranty.

How much was the part from Denon? Did you order from Denon USA? I was going to order from PacParts which is selling the part for $138 plus shipping and tax.

Yes, i ordered directly from Denon USA. The The price was ~$138 but I would have to dig up the receipt for the exact number. I spoke to pacparts and they did not have it in stock and they said that if I bought it they would order it then ship it to me. Considering Denon is east coast, pacparts is west coast, and I am east coast this made no sense. Denon said that their standard ground charge was $7 and Fed-Ex overnight was $15. At this point I said to myself that I was already paying $145 for something that should be free so what is another $8? Denon offered to pay shipping to them and shipping back to me but I did not care to send the unit for 2 or 3 weeks. Denon parts also said that they had a 30 day return on the part so if for some reason it did not work in my 4310 I had the option to return it. I am not thrilled about spending the $153 to get the unit working again but I was less thrilled with having to ship it off. The failure of this card was causing HDMI output problems, no USB etc. I was having to power the unit down to get the HDMI input/outputs to work so I decided to get it done now. The part arrived yesterday and it is currently doing a great job at playing "The Police" on Blu-Ray.

Thanks for the info! I am on the west coast so I will probably just order from pacparts. I have already had a couple of conversations with Denon regarding this problem and am not happy either about paying $150 for a part that should have been handled by denon with a recall and no charge to the customer. I could have taken it in to an authorized repair shop that was over 100 miles each way or spent $75 to ship it to Denon in New Jersey - in either case I had to spend $50 - $75 and be without my main AVR for several weeks . So in the end I have chosen to spend an additional $75 and not have to be without my AVR. All in all not a pleasant customer service experience. This is my 3rd Denon AVR and I also have a Denon 602 video processor - I think they will be the last Denon products I own.

Given that so many customers are facing this problem, I agree with you, Denon should supply this part to all registered 4310 owners free of charge to keep their reputation.

If they do this, it would keep loyal Denon fans buying Denon in the future, else a lot of people are going to defect for their future purchases.
Does anyone know how to turn on the deep color setting on the 4310? I can't seem to find it in the menus. Thanks

Add me to the list of a "dead" 4310 ..... The network card is now in hard failure mode with the Network Status being in permanent "Network Connecting" status and audio no longer works when a new source is selected until you do the power off/on...

Micro processor or network resets did not work, and - of course - with the micro processor reset all of the config is lost and no way to reload (from the backup - re-keying in all of the changes I had and re-doing the Audyssey setup is not something I care to do with the power off/on condition).

Did go on-line and got the SRA to send back to NJ... what a bummer. Pay $50-75 to ship it and wait the 2-3 weeks for the repair and return trip to California. Really sucks.

I might try calling to see if I can take it to the "local" authorized repair center in San Jose instead.... Denon going to the a single vendor (in NJ) for warranty repairs bites....

If the Onkyo's didn't run so hot they'd be a possible alternative......
As easy as the NIC is to replace, there should be no reason you can't simply send it to a local authorized repair facility who will order and install the card for you.
I have a chance to buy the denon 4310 or the pioneer sc27 new at clearance price of 1000.00. whice one would you guys choose given you guys have experience with the denon? one other question, does the networking ability have a much usage in your system?
Yeah, I plan to try that but was not sure if that option still exists (as the Denon web site is confusing - at least to me - on that point of taking it in yourself and the warranty being honored).

As others have stated, Denon's lack of customer service on this issue is disappointing but seems to be a sign of the times. You would think a "care package" with a new card and some simple instructions (for those that need them) to replace the card would be cheaper for them overall but no doubt the management does not want to cop to the bad part nor devise a customer centric solution.

There is and will be further long term "damage" to Denon as besides my personal unit taking a dive, I doubt I will be in any hurry to recommend to my current and future "clients" that a Denon will be at the top of options for an AVR....

Other than the fact that it takes almost twice as long (or longer) and you still have to pay shipping/insurance costs to the Denon facility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, you will have a 50-50 chance of getting a refurbished unit back, when they can't figure out what is wrong with it. Or, better yet - they will replace the part with the same defective designed part, causing another trip back to the repair center to repeat the madness???!?!?!??!?!

I am seriously pissed-off over the number of folks who feel that they have to "buy" their solution to a piss-poor design and totally abysmal customer service. This is completely unacceptable and beyond ridiculous.

Denon had a major flaw in this design. They screwed around and gave the appearance of dodging the issue, while causing some folks to be without their expensive AVR for many weeks. Now, it has become so frustrating, that people would rather buy the (covered under warranty) part and install it themselves.

Shame on you Denon. Unfortunately, you probably won't suffer repercussions proportional to the aggravation that you caused loyal customers.

Well, I will vote with my wallet. Denon will never get another dime from me. If my 4310 dies, I will take it to Denon USA corporate HQ and throw it through the front window!

Let me start off by saying that I am not defending Denon over the network card issue. But the card is actually designed by a company called BridgeCo and is is there DM860 is theirs. The customer no-service from Denon is a joke. I guess as long as customers are willing to pay full retail for something that should be free why should they fix it? The only answer I can come up with on this one is when the 4310 dies for good Denon will have a hard time winning me back. This is my 4th Denon AVR and for $150 it is ashame that they just want to wash their hands of the issue.

CE companies often buy sub-assemblies or high integration parts like video processors, DSPs and HDMI interfaces from companies like BridgeCo, Freescale, IDT etc. It's still Denon's fault.
