Denon AVR-4310CI Thread - Page 154

Called Denon. MUCH better experience this time! Sent an email containing photos of the slight dent (not easy to photograph), repair documentation and purchase receipt. Said he will escalate (whatever that means).

Get this though; when photographing the slight dent, I noticed the top was VERY warm. The warmest I have ever felt it, even after playing a movie very loudly in the past. Got my infrared thermometer and found the top to be...ready? ONE HUNDRED & TEN DEGREES!!! I had it turned on only...no audio OR video was input or output. Yes, something is VERY VERY wrong here. My baby is VERY sick.

My setup Polk Blackstone TL 250 + Sub Polk DSW 440 + Polk Atrium 45 for 2nd Zone.

I need small speakers for constraints of room size.

Thanks

As long as you are happy with them, that is all that matters.

Hello,

Like all you know, my NIC card is gone. So, I´m thinking about optimize the investment. My thoughts are:

When the NIC was working

1- The GUI was slow and not very nice.
2- No way to stream videos from the network.
3- Ackward display of data album. (The picture remains on display for ever)
4- Connect to other devices in the net was very slowly.

Also is no way to get Airplay in the 4310.

What I want to say with this... The performance was not the best.

So now, I´m thinking that with Apple TV, I´d recover the network functions plus all the bell and wisthles included with the Apple TV. Also Internet radio.

The best is that adds Airplay to the 4310...

What I like is that Apple TV 2 is delivering audio in digital format (HDMI, Toslink) so indeed, the DAC involved in this processing would be the one on the AVR. (Is that right?)

What do you think, am I crazy? Or is a valid option?
totally valid, with the exception that an external device cannot provide:

1) firmware updates or
2) web control (including save/load of configs)

If you are OK without those two thing, screw the NIC! there is no question that ATV or any other dedicated networking device will provide FAR greater functionality and a more pleasing interface.

Somewhere in the net I saw that updates are possible through serial RS232, however I dont know how to get neither Denon will release any interesting feature for this model...

Anyway, after all the reading about problems with updates, I prefer dont do it. Though, never update this avr in order to avoid trouble...

I use my LG blu-ray player to stream music and movies. I still want network control of the 4310 as it is faster/easier to switch things on the fly and for just basic setup.

Is there any setting that just can be accesed from web config page?

Does anyone know how to get file to update via serial port?
Although updating via the serial port is possible, Denon doesn't provide that file to consumers as the primary updating method is via the network.
AFAIK every setting in the web interface is also available via the remote/GUI. The primary thing you lose is the ability to save/load configs.

The networked models are designed to be updated by the user via ethernet, I don't know if they can be updated via serial port (at least by you at home), but JD probably can answer that definitely (EDIT: there he goes!).

I think I'll end spending $ 250 (I dont believe) instead of $150... since ATV provides AirPlay and a beautiful GUI and dont like the idea of left the AVR incomplete...

Do you know is ATV is DLNA compatible?

Not sure but my LG is. I use NeroHome (came with the blu ray player) and works very well I think. Also can use Windows 7 the same way.

It is but I like being able to be on the computer if the remote is across the room to still be able to control the 4310.

As a side note, I heard back from Denon. They now want the serial # of my 4310. Can't imagine why as they know (I would think) the unit from ALL other info (name, address, receipt, work order receipt) I already provided. Oh well.

And finally, has anyone been able to access the Denon Owners Club? For some insane reason I can't.

Hello splicer, how about your NIC?
It's still working?

I'm waiting for your good comments.
Finally I've purchased the NIC... But it's not here yet.

Hello my friend.

I have managed to get the NIC to mostly work. After about 10 resets it has been working (mostly) very well. The single issue I still have that hasn't been resolved is I cannot turn ON the 4310 thru the computer. I can turn it OFF but not ON.

Still waiting on Denon to reply...

ok, the "mostly" very well is better than before with the old card?

What kind of 10 resets, network reset ? Pls let me know why
Regarding on / off issue I'll let you know when install my new card
post #4605 of 5197
Microprocessor resets. And yes, "mostly" is better than before when I had nothing.

I don't know why, but you sound like very conservative about the results

Hi,

As of yesterday, my DD isn't working. Then all of a sudden, it started to work again. I've checked all the wires and they seem to be ok. This happens on my Comcast DVR and my Bluray player. It worked this morning and now, DD isn't working again. For now, I'm getting a ip address, thinking it's not my NIC card. Can someone give me some ideas and how to hopefully get this fixed?

Thanks, Jerry
Could just be a glitch. Try a microprocessor reset.

Thanks, when I get back home, I'll give this a try. I want to save my settings first, then I'll try it.

Thanks, Jerry

Do you have "Network Standby" set to ON? If it is not set to on, you cannot turn the receiver on with the computer. Hope that helps.

Network Card Failures/Lockups

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After much googling and research I believe I have a theory on the condition that causes the network cards to fail/lockup.

The reported issue common to many posters on avsforum, after a power outage, or after a power bounce "power cuts out
and back on real fast" or after pressing on and then off real fast as the receiver is booting is the start of
the network problem.

The sympton after this happens is that the user cannot access the receivers web
management page. However, pings work and respond and users can telnet to port 5001 on the network card.

Users report nics with gold traces are replaced with nics with green insulated traces and having the nics
changed resolves the issue

some users have recovered without changing the nic out and others not.

one user reported that after booting going straight to the config menu without changing inputs and
switching his network standby from on to off restores network connectivty.

another user xczar reported that his completely locked up and upon power reset "small botton, not the standby button" his came back up in this post # 2831 of this thread

dMarca post number 2693 said - whenever I turned to Net/USB, I got the dreaded "Please wait... AssigningNetwork" message forever and ever. It only went away when I put the AVR on standy (by hitting the ON/STANDBY button), then turned it off completely (by hitting the ON/OFF button). Upon turning it back on, I got everything back to normal

I personally had the same thing happen to me this weekend on my avr-4810ci. either from some prior power outages the week before or from me rapidly powering up zone2 on and off again in succession to test some macros I created on my remote I ended up losing the web management page. I could ping the receiver just fine, but the web interface would not come up, nor could I execute commands via telnet. Standby off and on did not bring the nic back. nor did quick plug removal.

I was on the latest firmware prior to the rhapsody server disable/renable firmwares.

I was able to successfully get my denon network management page back by physically removing the power to my receiver after it locked up on the network connecting menu. physically removing the power to my router and switch, reseating network cables into switch/router. plugging back in the switch/router. then finally plugging receiver back in and
by pressing small power switch "not the standby one" on the front. I pressed it in to put it in the off position and then back on to put it in the on position.

After that my network came back up and everything has been fine since. I never had standby on, I use dhcp reservation for the ip and I have the green insulated
nic card. After it came back up i successfully applied the latest firmware with the new rhapsody server as I was only current to the firmware right before it.

I've powered up and down a dozen times
since this weekend and it appears to be ok.

So theory is quick power on and then off or when the card boots on the NET/USB device and gets stuck on assigningnetwork results in this condition of the network card locking up and becoming unresponsive to ports 23/80/5000. 5001 is responsive but just sits at a # prompt via telnet connection.

Can one recover from this condition? in my isolated case it appears I did, but is recovery only available if you are on a recent firmware version AND/OR have the green insulated nic? Will recovery last long term?

I have a 3311CI that has been working great for 3 months. The other day my finger slipped I accidentally

hit the 'off' button on the remote immediately after pressing the 'on' button. The receiver turn on then

off. When I turned the receiver back on I had no network connectivity.

My router gives an IP to the receiver still but the receiver shows no MAC address and none of the 'network'

menus or features are accessible or working. I have tried to reset my unit a few times with no success in

restoring network functionality. I am extremely disappointed as I use the network connection for Home

Automation control and interface (same as the rs232 control but over IP).

I'm off to deliver my receiver to an authorized repair centre 2 hours away. They say it will be covered

under warranty if I bring my original sales receipt. They also say it will likely take at least a week

before they will even look at it and then another week before they would probably fix it. Crappy timelines,

but if it's covered under warranty I'll take it.

Some of the circuit board traces were changed from exposed metallic gold to insulated green. A sticker with some QC markers.
Here is a link to a quick video I made of the install. Sorry for the shake and blur...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNxRJon5WrI

Reading though the AVR-4310 thread "the avr-4310 uses the bridgeco DM860 nic, similar, but not the same" They have come to the same conclusion. The updated working nic is the one with green insulation.

The metallic gold signifies the old card.

Helllo all, I just purchased this unit new at the 6th Ave electronics going out of business sale and it sounds great! I am going from an Onkyo 707, did I do the right thing? I have seen many posts about issues with downloading the firmware updates. Is this still a problem? I know it's been out for a while and doesn't support 3D but the price was crazy low.
I'm not sad I bought mine. One of the best AVR's in my opinion. Congrats man. How crazy low did the store go if you don't mind my asking?

Yes, it has been set to on since I got it back. It started working a few days ago. Crazy. But it is all 100% functional now.

I got for $536.00. I really like the sound and the look. Ran the Audyssey and have to work on bringing up the center channel because it's drowned out by the other speakers.
^ Nice price, and from authorizeed dealer so your warranty starts now. You may need it if it has the old NIC (see posts above) which was prone to failure. Other than that one thing this is a very fine AVR, and one of the last equipped with Surr B AFAIK.
Mine was $2 less. So you git screwed! LOL J/K! Good price. Enjoy it. I know I do.
Hello all. First time poster, long time reader. I've had my 4310ci for several years, and really have had no issues with it. However, I've noticed this problem a few times lately. Its hard to know if its the receiver at fault or not.

The other night we were watching a 1080p Dolby Digital Plus movie from the CinemaNow service (on PS3) and 45 minutes into the movie, the front channels pretty much just faded away and became horribly distorted.

Tried a few things.

Stopped the movie and restarted. Same issue.
Wound the movie back to earlier, when the sound had being good, but now was bad.
Switched receiver off, and back on. Same issue.
Switched the receiver to 5ch stereo and the problem was no longer there. Then I switched it back to DD, and it was fine again for a bit. Then 10 minutes later it happened again.

I changed the source to another HDMI input (with DD pro logic II cinema) .. Apple TV and things were fine again for a bit, then it happened again ...

So I ended up doing a microprocessor reset, and so far it seems ok again ...

Has anyone experienced anything like this before. Very odd. Thanks.

** Update **

I think this might have being caused by cinema now quite honestly. I have since used the Ps3 for a number of blurays and netflix, and haven't had anymore issues with the Denon. I think I will switch from Cinema now to Vudu. Vudu had not given me any issues.

Then you really got it for a good price!! LOL. I'm sure I will like it as well, but since the last storm hit NJ on Saturday, fifteen minutes after finishing the set up, I lost power. Grrrrr..... I can't wait for the power to come back on so I can play it.

I'm looking for a little help. I have been setting the AVR up and am very please with the performance so far. However I'm running into trouble with setting up zone2. I have assigned the amp to zone2 and have run analog inputs into the AVR and still no sound. I can't figure it out. The manual is very vague and I have also referred to Batpig's Set up page and still no luck. I'm sure it is something simple that I'm over looking in my set up. Thanks in advance. JT
