So you have the speakers connected to the SBL/SBR speaker posts with AMP ASSIGN set to Zone 2 ... what Zone 2 source is selected?

Thanks for the response. The amp is assinged to zone 2 and the speakers are connected to SBL/SBR and the source is the Blu Ray using the analog outputs. This is how I had it set up with my Onkyo 707 because it only used analog as well for the zone 2.

And your BDP will pass audio over both HDMI and analog simultaneously? As a test, can you select the analog input to play in the main zone?

JD would I do that in the input assignment page in the menu? I had the analog inputs from the Blu Ray going to the CD analog inputs on the AVR prior and had sound when I selected the CD input on the AVR.

Okay, so you know the connection works. Good. Now, using the remote, Select Zone 2, turn it ON, and then select the CD source to play.

That's what I have been doing and no luck. Should the HD Radio play through the zone 2 as well? I'm going to stop for the night and pick it up tomorrow when my eyes aren't crossed. Thank you for all your help. I let you know how I make out. JT

I just ordered a 4310 from Electronics Expo (an authorized dealer according to the Denon USA website). I'm not discussing price, but I will say that I got a significant discount by using a coupon code that I found with a google search. That discount was enough to get me to order now rather than waiting. I expect to receive the unit on Wednesday and I will post my impressions. I am upgrading from a 2309 which has been competent, but not spectacular.

When Zone 2 is powered, you MUST change the input to the CORRECT source. You CANNOT have the correct source on MAIN zone and expect it to carry over to zone 2.

Thanks for the reply. I was changing the source on the AVR using the zone2/3 Rec select button and on the remote directly in the zone 2 mode. I'm going to bring in an old CD player and just connect it to the CD inputs and start from scratch. The saga continues.

If you follow the directions on p. 87 of the Owner's manual .. you should be good to go.

I have assigned the amp to zone2 and have run analog inputs into the AVR and still no sound. I can't figure it out. The manual is very vague and I have also referred to Batpig's Set up page and still no luck. I'm sure it is something simple that I'm over looking in my set up. Thanks in advance. JT

Dont forget to power on the 2 nd zone from the remote. Each zone has independent power on/off

Hope this help

I think I may have figured out the issue. I have to ensure that the input is set to Auto. Not sure it that is the case. I will test it tonight and let you know. Thanks for all the help JPSmoothie and Charlyz. JT

You may find this useful:

I put the app DenONOFF on my iPhone and iPad and now control of zones is much easier than with the Denon remote.

All I had to do was put the receiver's IP address into the app's settings. My primary remote is my dependable Harmony but, I grab my iPhone/iPad first when tuning on/off zones and switching sources. It is so straight forward and foolproof if you have your receiver attached to a local network with a wireless access point.

Well all I was able to get the zone 2 working. First off I want to thank all of you for your posts. They were very insightful and helpful. With that being said What I did to try to correct this problem was to check and recheck all the menu settings, read and re-read the instructions over and over and over. I still couldn't get things to click with zone 2. Then I did a reset of the processor and still no luck.

Then my wife the gem that she is and has been for the past 30 years we have been together said, Are you sure you hooked it up right? I shoot her a look like she had just wounded me!! Of course I hooked it up right! Who's the expert in this house..Well apparently she is, because I had the zone 2 speakers in the non-assign amp terminals. So now you see I am eating crow and feel very silly to have wasted all of your time trying to fix my User error. It all came down to an ID10T error.

So thanks again JDSmoothi, Splicer010, Charlyz and Kwall for your help. JT

Very true. She is pleased with her lack of tech knowledge and that she had the answer..All is right with the world again. I re-ran audyssey and I am so impressed with the sound that comes out!! It's soooo good. Ok I feel better!

I called Denon to check the warranty period on refurbished products and I mentioned to them about the concern I have regarding the NIC problems I read about and they told me they are NOT aware of the issue. That is either flat out lie, the guy is new at Denon or all issues have been resolved. So which is it? I am looking to replace my Onkyo 805 with either the 4310CI, 3311CI or 3312CI, all within $150 price difference. Price aside, which on should I get if my objective is to get the best audio and video quality and solid amplification?
^^
Refurbs purchased after Oct 1 are now extended from the former 90 day warranty to a full 1 year warranty, and if your credit card adds an additional year, then a total of 2 years. The 4310CI has more power than do the 3311CI/3312CI; however, it is only HDMI 1.3a if you are interested in 3D video at all. You likely spoke with an inexperienced rep as of course the 4310CI had NIC issues and there is no guarantee that a refurb would already have the NIC card replaced as Denon doesn't generally replace a part unless it's broken.

Thanks. If there is no appreciable difference in sound and video quality, I rather get the newer 3312 and get 3D even though I really don't care for it right now. I only care about audio and video quality and I only watch Blu-ray disc in a dedicated HT room. I have read some post in the Denon 3312 thread that the 3312 is a downgrade from the 3311 in sound quality ? Do you agree? What is your take ?
The video capability in all three models is likely very similar. And there's no reason the 3312CI should provide any less audio quality than would the 3311CI.

I figured the same, just wanted to be sure. Thanks much.

I replaced my Onkyo 707 with the 4310 and I hear a difference between the two with the added power. Good luck with your purchase.

I meant a difference between the Denon AVR-4310 and Denon AVR-3311/3312 not with vs. a different brand. Thanks for your input though.
The Onkyo 707 is only 100W and uses the lower version of Audyssey MultEQ so there would be a bigger notable difference, while the 3311CI/3312CI are both 125W vs. the 4310CI (130W) and all three use the more advanced Audyssey MultEQ XT so less likely to be much of a sound difference. The 4310CI has more inputs than do either the 3311CI/3312CI.
I ran Audyssey again today after adding external amp (365W x 3 ) and the sound quality was so good, better than I heard if before, it got me questioning whether upgrading my Onkyo TX-SR805 is a better allocation of my upgrade money when I only have a 10" Energy sub now. I think I will upgrade the sub to 12" SVS/HSU/Epik sub first. I will get the AVR-4311 when it gets discounted at a later date.
Hmmm ... better quality, or just louder? Also, the 4311CI likely won't be discounted when the 4313CI replaces it next summer as the 4313CI will likely MSRP closer to $3000.
Hi guys,

My recently purchased Denon AVR-4310 crashed a few times : nothing working, even the standby button. I had to restart the unit via the ON/OFF button and I lost all my settings, including Audissey settings.

Last fimware is installed.

Any thought ?

Many thanks in advance.

Reset the microprocessor (p. 111) if you haven't already. If it does it after that, return it.

After adding the amp everything sounds cleaner. I could raise the volume up and still sounds cleaner and smoother, very easy on my ears even though the volume is much higher than I am used to. So everything I hear has a lot of impact/presence. If I do that just with the Onkyo, I have to immediately turn the volume down because the sound becomes harsh and uncomfortable, especially in complex action filled tracks.

I'll give it a try!

Unfortunately, I think that the warranty has expired. I'll check with the first owner. (I bought it used.)

By the way, it sound like a software issue...no ?
