So far ESPN's coverage has been very solid, very nice crisp and sharp PQ. a few audio glitches early on but seem to have fixed the problem. I think the cameramen have done a good job on this partly cloudy day dealing with the Sun going in and out.

I'm assuming ABC will be using the same carmera's right? Seeing how they own ESPN, if so, I see no reason why not, should be a nice coverage and I think is a little sharper than NBC's which was nice in it's own righ

Hmmm is it me or does ABC seem to have more "pop" to it? Has anyone else been watching both ESPN's and ABC's? I find it strange if it is true, because they are the same company. But yeah ABC's seems to have that more "pop" to it

ABC, ESPN (720p) and NBC (1080i) and other networks often hire private firms to truck in TV gear for sports etc (exception here ). For the upcoming golf U.S. Open, splitting weekday/weekend coverage between ESPN/NBC, cameras must have 1080i capability. 720p for weekday ESPN use (U.S. Open) is obtained by sideconverting 1080i/p from cameras. 1080i/p conversion to 720p should boost 720p's effective resolution (resolvable detail). An ESPN/ABC-only event could theoretically use 720p-only cameras (HD output), with half the format (sampling) spatial resolution.

Equipment and delivered PQ varies between mobile video companies hired by the networks. But network PQ also varies depending on whether local stations are using subchannels, rate shaping with OTA/cable/DBS, how effectively signals are distributed nationwide to stations and head ends, and whether home displays are adequate to resolve enough detail. -- John
