My mistake, I thought that was a close up shot of an in-game picture lol.

Oh, and it appears that car #8 may have been identified as something called an R35. Anyone know what that is?

Sweet, now I can get Forza and compare with how it handles on GT5:Prologue.

Hey everyone, I had a quick question about point to point races. How does the placing work? Last night I was doing the class E or F races of the point to point track. There were three heats and I placed 2nd, 1st, 1st respectively. However when I finished the day's events I was giving a placing of 5th. How does that work? I had the best times of all the racers in race three and second best in both race one or two. I was under the impression that the best heat times win. Am I missing something here?

I would assume because you finished 2nd in the first heat it dropped you into another bracket. I guess sorta like how the olympics does bball and such. So once you blew it with 2nd you had no shot at getting first anymore. You, I guess from the results, were battling for 5th. So finishing 2nd dropped you into a heat with the bottom half of the bracket. Makes since that you were 5th since the there's 8 racers (including yourself) in the races and I'm assuming the top 4 spots go to those who finished 1st in their first race. So had you finished 1st 2nd and 2nd you would probably had 4th place. Depending of course what else went down.

dont know about you guys but ive grown really tired of this game. online really ruined it for me. people constantly taking you out on the first turn and putting you completely out of a race. then others drive online on easy difficulty while us hard and harder difficulty drivers are trying to earn their turns and getting blown by from people with high powered, non handling cars on autopilot. its unplayable to me and the offline isnt challenging at all. i want to earn these cars in single player, tune them to my liking and compete in online races. due to the poor community, thats not going to happen ever. im thinking of selling this game but something tells me to hang on to it. i havent played it in two weeks. thats how bad it is. i can clearly see the potential in this game, but people always have to step in and be jerks and ruin it all.

That is pretty much what happens in racing online with random people. The solution is to not race with random people.

You mean the assists? Turning the assists off only makes a car faster. If you are shifting manually and braking on your own, you will be tons faster than an automatic shifter and auto-braker. Same goes for traction control and stability management. Cars are faster with them turned off, period.

So I don't really get your complaint here. Besides, how can you tell that they have the assists turned off? There is no indication to tell anyone if assists are on or off. Maybe they are just better than you?

I actually find that the career is fairly challenging with the AI on hard. At first I had a really hard time controlling cars in the R3 championship. I ended up in last place for the first 2 races. But I got a lot better and eventually ended up in 2nd place overall. So far I'm 19 hours in at level 41, and I'm still very engaged by the career. This is far better than Forza 2's career.

Then make or find your own community. There are tons of Forza race leagues out there with clean drivers. Then create your own private races.

beause i asked. and the response was what i thought it was. you cant say they didnt screw up with allowing different difficulty settings for players in the same race. everyone should be driving under the same conditions. this game is fun, but not so much fun that i would put up with the endless amounts of bs that comes with it. its more trouble than its worth. and ive had absolutely nothing but frustration racing online because of all the things i mentioned in my earlier post.

So like Shape said, build a friends list for Forza 3. I recommend this for any game not just Forza 3. Find people that play fair and have fun playing the same games and you shouldn't have any issues. What I have been doing for the last 7 years.

Those aren't "difficulty settings". They are assists. Assists are there to help you if you can't handle a particular car, but they are definitely a handicap. These assists will make you slower. If you had two identical cars with expert drivers going around a track, but with assists on in one car, but off in the other, the one with the assists off will be the faster one. Traction control and stability management both slow down a car a ton when accelerating a car out of a turn. And ABS hurts your braking.

And they definitely didn't screw up by allowing the assists. Not everyone can handle every car. Would you rather that they were spinning out into the side of your car in a corner?

Ehh? How does it hurt? It's the only "assist" I've ever had on in any car game. I can't brake right without it or brake late for that matter.

It lengthens stop times in Forza.
So Forza adds time on because you are using ABS? If so... That's BS.

Not really. A driver who is threshold braking can out-brake ABS.

We are talking about a game so... I set it up to where it feels natural not by what they call it. I don't care if it's realistic or not, it's a game. You can't compare the two.

Proof? I drive a stick in real life, in a game someone has to hit me over the side of the head to shift even though the car is over reviving. It can't simulate that "feel" you get from driving for real.
Ok. Just know that the car will take slightly longer to slow down with ABS on. I use ABS in Forza, too.
It really doesn't feel that way but I do feel like I have a helluva lot more control when braking vs if I don't have ABS and brake I just veer straight off the road even if I'm turning. Which, I suppose is realistic but... At least in real life you have "feeling" of losing grip and control, it just DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL OF A SUDDEN.

That's precisely where good force feedback comes in. Without it you have to rely on your ears, eyes and experience with the game too much instead of feeling what's going on an reacting in time.
There isn't much force feedback in a steering wheel when braking. When in a braking situation, you rely on feeling the g-forces on your body to tell when you are braking perfectly. But you can't convey that in a video game.
Surprise surprise!

The Nissan GT-R Spec V was in the DLC update..and man it's a sweet car. You can see why its generating so much hype. It handles corners effortlessly, and explodes out of the exit of a corner without any loss of traction. In its stock form, it drives like a meticulously tuned car. Good stuff. Can't wait to spend more time with it.

So far I've only free played the Aston Lola, Lambo Murc SV and the Ferrari 599XX. That 599XX is a crazy car the way it comes! The ass loves kicking out just barely blipping the gas when all settings are off.

I was responding to the part about feeling of losing grip and control in this particular game. The FFB is pretty naff and that is a general problem, be it under braking or not. Wheels locking up and losing traction can be simulated very well with exisiting FFB, MS or other wheel. The Fanatec also does wheel and brake pedal vibration when you're at the treshold. It's not the equivalent of feeling the car through a racing seat (I wish!) but it's servicable. What I meant to say is that Forza, in general, is missing a layer of FFB communication with the player. I have to rely on my ears and eyes for things that I can feel in other racers.

My apologies for not explaining myself properly and just dropping a line in an ongoing discussion.

I can definitely feel when the car loses traction in the front wheels with the MS wheel. When I went over a crest at Fujimi Kaido in the Italia last night, the wheel got really light. And I can feel when the car is just barely on the edge of traction. There is a slight vibration, and the wheel gets light. I think it works really well.

I think I need to get a racing wheel!

is there any point in getting a wheel if you dont have a desktop to put it on? i mean can i use the wheel when im sitting on my bed? i dont have a desktop facing my tv in my room
post #1107 of 1200
I use the wheel on my legs at the moment. It works fine, but a stand would be better for sure.

I don't know about using it while sitting on a bed, though. Seems it would be pretty uncomfortable without something supporting your back. Remember you have to reach the pedals, too.
