any suggestions? i'm checking the sammy 52b750' sammy 55"led, or the xbr9
post #2 of 29
honestly, you can't go wrong with any of those. Pick one.
I own a cheaper one, a vizio 37 inch 720p and my PS3 makes it look great!

I got a 46a650 last summer and love playing PS3 games on it. My parents have the 52a650 and it is great as well. I'm sure the b750 will be great too.

For a second I read the title as "best lsd"

Not the brown LSD. It's not specifically too good.

Go plasma! Great blacks, no motion blur, and more screen size for the buck!

As long as you don't mind image retention and the power usage, you are right. There's unfortunately no perfect answer.

There's no noticeable input lag on any TV if you don't scale the source material.

Not to get into a plasma vs. lcd war, as I have both, but IR is virtually non-existent for newer model plasmas and power consumption has come way down too, though still more than lcd. No perfect answer, just better options.

A buddy of mine just bought a BRAND NEW Sammy plasma, and it DOES have IR. If I were in the market for plasma, I'd go Panny. I don't know if they suffer the same IR as the Sammy he has, no experience with them. I have a Sammy LCD, it's not the perfect TV, but like you said the perfect solution isn't out there yet.
The biggest one you can afford.
I'm a big fan of plasma's, but they do have temporary IR if you leave a still image on too long. I'm not that big a fanboy that I can't admit it. Good news is on my Panny it washes out after a couple minutes of normal viewing, and the picture is amazing.

OP, if you have a bright room definitely go with an LCD. I would personally go with the Sammy but only because I've seen the picture and it looks awesome, but the specs for the Sony look good too.

agreed. i have a 42" 1080p insignia and it more than gets the job done.

the IR on my Samsung 58B560 always washes away in a minute or so. i play plenty of games and blu-ray with letterbox bars on it and have never had a problem. any IR i have seen has been completey washed away in a minute or two.

I've had a Panasonic 46PZ85U plasma for about 6 months now. There is a lot of IR when it gets heated up and you look for it, but I've had ZERO permanent burn-in. It kinda bugs me b/c I'm always afraid it might not fade away, but it always does perfectly. You have to stick your face about 3 feet from the TV and make the entire screen black before you can see any of the IR anyway. Normal viewing, and you never see it. I'm SO glad I went plasma. Blacks, colors, clarity, natural looking picture and motion (none of that 120hz crap), etc. are all stunning. 6 months later and I still pinch myself when watching a bluray or playing PS3 on it.

If you've got a bright room, the only downfall is it will glare in sunlight. From my experience, Panasonic plasmas are great for PS3 and they can be had for a pretty cheap price compared to "similar" LCDs. For the price, I don't think you can get a better TV. I was actually talking to my buddy this afternoon and he's getting one tomorrow for $600! 42" 720p...the basic model but still a really nice TV.

Sorry if I offended you LCD owners. Your TVs are nice too, I just have a mancrush on plasmas.

I second this emotion. lol

I would also go with the Sony out of the choices.

I have a Pioneer Kuro and I play the same game, with the same HUD on the screen for 4-6 hours at a time. No IR, and the picture quality is simply mouth dropping stunning. My brother has a new tube TV and he continually wants to come up to my house to play games together because he loves how the TV looks. It is simply amazing.

You can't really go wrong with any choice, purchase the biggest one within your budget. Samsung LCD's are usually rated some of the best. Panasonic and Pioneer plasmas are rated high too (Pioneer is now out of the plasma business so prices may be better).

I have the Sony 52w4100 and it rocks for gaming.

but i want a bigger screen and i am waiting for either a kuro 60" elite or the new panny v10 in 58"

...or you could move to the next level and get a projector. Nothing beats gaming on a really big screen!

3 plasma's here over the past 4 years. Still have 2. IR is an issue. I have had all Panny's. It's more of an issue the first say 800 hours. After that, you really have to play a game for 6-8 hours before you see something related to IR. Then you just watch something else and it goes away. Never had image burn on any plasma and I game only on my plasma ( have LCD and front projection as well)

I tell people if you look at a LCD and like it, stick with it. IF you can't see it's issues or color disadvantages, stick with LCD. Some people truly just can't see certain things. Otherwise, go Panny or Pio plasma for a better picture. Some Sammy plasma's aren't bad but I avoid them personally.

Sammy 46a650 here too. I wouldn't call it the "perfect" TV, but it suits me fine.

I own a samsung 52850 120mhz lcd which I've had now for over 6 months now.
My girlfriend surprised me with a ps3 on Friday and been messing with it over the weekend.
I have to say the ps3 really makes this tv shine, playing wipeout hd @ 1080p on the samsung doesn't get much better. Highly recommended lcd, blu rays also look super crisp.
