BH200 vs Other Players

I was just wondering what everyone has experienced video quality wise when comparing the BH200 to any of the newer players. I would potentially be interested in updating my player if the hopefully released July update does not solve the DD+ issues to Pioneer receivers. I have a PS3 and enjoy having a dedicated disc player for watching movies. I have read that the Oppo is significantly better than any other standalone players but I have not seen one personally and to my knowledge the threads have not specifically mentioned how the BH200 compares with test material or direct comparisons between players.

My experiences are that the BH200 has better DVD picture than the PS3 and significantly better DVD picture quality than the Toshiba HDA30. I would not be willing to sacrifice DVD quality from BH200 levels. I have not noticed any significant differences between any players with HD material.

It's all about upscaler implementation here.

The BD-UP5000 uses REON but with few available adjustments. The BH200 uses QDEO. Finally, the Oppo uses Anchor Bay and a ton of picture controls, which many here feel is superior but it definitely comes down to YMMV in the end.

I know there are some BH200 owners with the Oppo who can give you a comparison but it might be a good idea to ask in the BD hardware section of the forum (within the BDP-83 comparison thread specifically). You may be even more likely to get an answer there since many of said owners have adopted the Oppo as their primary player.

I have a BH200 packed away so it's not convenient for me to give you a comparison myself. :\\

How does it compare to the Samsung? Comparison reviews of the UP5K upscaling versus the BH200 were essentially dead even--the UP5K being thought to be "sharper" while the 200 was described as "softer". Both, IMO, are real good upscalers. I watch the UP5K on a 60" screen and the BH200 on a 123" screen and have found them both very nice. (And much better than the A2 and A30 I had before.)

I have a Samsung BD-P2500 with Reon processor, and a BH200, both connected through my Onkyo 605 receiver to Panasonic A900 projector and 100" fixed screen. I'd say the blu-ray output is pretty comparable, using 1080p/24. I generally use the Samsung for domestic BDs and the BH200 for import BDs and HD DVD - even if an import BD is region free, I use the BH200 as it can handle any PAL content. For upconverting standard DVD they're both quite good, but I'd give a slight edge to the Samsung with Reon processor and generally use it for standard DVD.

Hey guys I appreciate the input on the players. One quick question to anyone that knows. Is it true that HQV has officially gone out of business? I believe that I read this was true while reading a review about the Oppo in which it stated that the inclusion of the Anchor Bay chip seemed like an even better choice with the demise of HQV.
