Did you plug it in hot, or did you cold boot the PC with the TV attached? Some DVI adapters need to sense the DVI monitor attachment at boot time to send out a signal. It's also possible your cable is designed to go the other way - connect an HDMI source to a DVI monitor.

Cable orientation doesn't matter and if it plugs in ok it should work. But like nded said you should have the monitor on and then startup the PC for your best chance of it working. You may have to select which output to use on the video card, too. If you continue to have problems, check out the HTPC forum here.

Check your TV and your Video Card documentation. You might not be able to do what you're trying to do. It's possible that the DVI output on the card is analog, which won't work with the HDMI (digital) input at the TV. The card may have an output type setting; if so set it to digital. If it doesn't, does the TV have a VGA (analog) input, if so use that. If not you may need to upgrade your video card to output HDMI or DVI-D, if your TV will allow you to connect a PC to the HDMI input.

Again check TV doc for resolutions and acceptable hook-ups for a PC.
