Basic Cable Sign Up

Thread Starter
Hey everyone!
I am just wondering, I have signed up for Comcast basic cable TV and they came out today to install it, and I was told it would be $20/month.
Is there something hidden in that?
I signed up for a 5 year contract.

Enjoy

5 year contract? For cable service? I didn't know they even did that. I know that sort of thing happens with satellite...

There is usually a franchise fee and tax. I think Comcast is running a promo for free basic cable for a year if you get internet or phone. Never heard of any 5 year contracts.

Comcast doesn't provide service in Los Angeles.

Yeah, they haven't been in the LA area for awhile. And I think even then they were restricted to Orange County and the outlying areas.

Although I do see Comcast ads here on occasion.

Comcast as a 11.99 per month basic package in SOME areas
I am in schaumburg, Ill and my parents in mt prospect 10 miles away and their basic is $22 because it is a different area!
anyone else finding chicago land to vary in price and I also was told there are no subchannels
THUS do they give you some other channels that are not OTA?
Do you get the tv guide?
They also told me that there is a promo for one year (no other services required if you are a new customre) for $10 first year then the regular rate
( which seems to vary by location- and in their words "demand")
NO CONTRACT necessary

The $22 vs $11 difference might be due to the "$10 multi-service discount" which would apply if one has both cable tv and internet .:

I pay $14.10/month for limited-basic-cable, and ~$25 for economy-internet (1Mbit/sec).
Some of the tv guide info does seem to be present on the cable.

a 5 year contract for cable TV? wild. I've never heard of that!

no, neither of us as any other services for them nor were asking for that
they said the price is based on the demand in that area
that really does not make sense as we are all in the northwest suburbs not the boonies
maybe someone else can call and see what they tell you
I am 60169 and my parents 60056
