Looks like MPC-Club will be 'dormant' for next 3 weeks or so (Hi-Jack is going on a break)

http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?n...rticle&sid=783

If MPC Club is expected to carry the 1st review for Xtreamer, it will be only after the first batch shipping date, I guess. Hopefully Xtreamer has sent units to other review sites too.

I don't think they were threatening anyone. I suppose they are a worried about unnecessary badmouthing and probably concerned that some of their competitors would send their trolls to blast them on the Net.

Whether the internal drive supports read and write NTFS is unknown, I do hope so as Linux formats are such a hassle for PC users.

This is what interests me. I'd love to get rid of EXT3.

Confirmed. Here's what Hi-Jack wrote in an email regarding the status of the Xtreamer review, whether he has one, and what to expect:

Quote:

We neither have the unit or a shipping date from xtsreamer so far. In general though I believe people should not expect the all in one wonder but expect a similar product like an NMT for very low cost and very small in size. Somewhat the WDTV with networking and HD support... No more, no less...

Details can only be given after we seen the player and this will certainly not be before the first of July since we are on leave until the 3rd of July and not concudt any reviews in the upcoming weeks. There's also 9 different products in the pipeline for us too look at upon our return and we handle a first come first serve basis too...

EDIT: It sounds like the MPC guy has a lot on his plate. If MPC is supposed to be the first to review the Xtreamer and as they say it isn't even there yet, with 9 other products to review upon their return July 3rd, it could mean that some of the first reviews we see about this unit will in fact come from forum members or customers who have ordered.

You think that Xtreamer people only sent a unit to MPC?

I have no idea. I hope not. But I was under the distinct impression MPC would be the first. And MPC says they are off duty until July 3rd and even then they have 9 other products in the pipeline (whereas the Xtreamer hasn't arrived yet and MPC has no expected shipping date.)

Anyone else's spidey senses tingling? Or maybe we really can have our Xtreamer engraved, customized, and more!
Well, the way it looks to me now, we may just as well forget about reviews for the near future. It appears they havent send any units yet, so the logic here is that they are still working on it, on FW.

They are already overwhelmed by community feedback and inevitably there must have been some points made that they didnt consider previously.

My guess is they will dispatch testing samples only days before first batch goes out to us, so at the end of this month.
It also says delivery time is 10-15 days so it is totally possible we will receive our units only around 15th of july, therefore plenty of time for official reviews to come in during this waiting period.

Yes, it appears there was lots of copy/paste going on allover the site, also lots of spelling mistakes, but I personally dont blame the guy...Especially if only one guy is behind the whole site creation. The site is huge, so many information and I know if I were creating it, I would try to copy/paste myself, as much as possible.

But you are right, it does spoil the mood somehow.

One guy? As far as I know there are some major hitters involved in this project. Unicorn, Realtek etc...

It's an interesting point. There have been lots of names thrown around about who has backed this project. But it's not clear if that was only in terms of the technology they contributed to making the project possible in R&D, or whether those big hitters are involved with the marketing, promotion and support of the product or have a stake in it's success.

Apparently Xtreamer is fronted by a company called MVIX, but given that Xtreamer support seems so overwhelmed at a crucial launch period, its website and support emails with relatively poor presentation value, consistently written in the same fractured english with spelling mistakes or excessive copy and paste, and its unprofessional approach to customer relations (i.e. making information public and then complaining about it to a customer) it's understandable why one might pause to wonder just how much staff is actually behind the Xtreamer website and if it isn't just one or two guys.
no no, I am talking about their web site designer.

Well, I was talking to them on shop live support on two occasions in a period of ~5 minutes and both times different person picked up. It looked professional, polite and serious .

Huh, so if you hire a webmaster to create a site for your company, and all he does is just copy/paste (basically plagiarize) then it is ok because he is only one person??? They are coming out with a "killer/innovative" product yet they can't even manage to come up with their own material on their website??? I don't know how anyone can think this is ok...

@fourtwenty2009 - you have done a good job with this thread, keep it up. If the Xtreamer does everything that is being promised then the unit will sell itself, people will buy these in a heartbeat. Shady behavior by companies, especially over forums they do not own, has gotta make you wonder...

There is plenty of their material on their site also. I am just saying I am not that picky, I care more about the quality of product then about spelling mistakes.

Besides, in this particular given case where it seems they copied from apple, it is quite possible they really didnt. It is about delivery and tracking business, so it is quite possible that UPS company provided them with this info, to be thorough, exact and precise.

That's a bit of a stretch. They have allegedly also lifted things from the NMT forums too. And if you take parts [1] or [2] of the one quote I supplied and google them you'll see it only appears on Apple websites.

I care most about the quality of product too, but presentation is also part of that quality IMHO. What's the value of a brand that can't even be bothered to make its own websites or web pages (let alone make them presentable)? Instead using a patchwork of other people's words and ideas to create a brand or image for itself? It's pretty friggin' lazy and I don't like it, to be truthful. I don't think most other people here do either. It doesn't show a lot of respect for their own brand, product, or customers IMHO.

I didn't mean to start this raging debate on plagerism, but as a customer I went to look for some information and saw the quote about 'ENGRAVING' and it really stuck out like a sore thumb that whoever wrote this page clearly didn't think it was worth the time to write it themselves or even proof read it to make sure it was relevant to their product.

But hey, having said all of that and shelled out for the player already I'm with most of you who are just hoping it lives up to expectations. I hope the final product is worth all of this corner cutting.

Since I've already ordered one I decided to ignore all the other stuff and homed on that last paragraph.

If you don't mind my asking.

Where on the apple website did you find same quote?

Sorry I'm blind I just saw "Apple.com" didn't think it was a link.

Thanks

From the same page:

Xtreamer: "As soon as your item(s) have shipped, we'll send you a Shipment Notification email that includes the carrier's name and a tracking number, if available. You can also view this information by signing in to online. Just visit online UPS Tracking page and provide the package number we provided you by email to get a summary of orders placed in the past 18 months. "

Apple: "As soon as your item(s) have shipped, we'll send you a Shipment Notification email that includes the carrier's name and a tracking number, if available. You can also view this information by signing in to online Order Status. If you ordered multiple items, you may receive separate shipments."
That's pretty lame, plagiarizing. But if you think about it the product itself seems to be a reaction to all the other existing products out there, so why would you expect their web site to be any different?

What the heck, in for one! Order #786!

This little unit seems to be the holy grail in my quest for the "perfect" portable media player:

- portable form factor
- internal 2.5" HDD capable
- ethernet + WLAN support
- plays pretty much any codec out there, including AVCHD
- DVD menu support
- NAS capable
- open source
- cheap!
Does anyone happen to know the names that are said to be part of the Xtreamer project?

Realtek, Unicorn media? Anyone else?

Anywhere on there site do they claim to have worked with realtek or unicorn?
Hmmm, something's not right with these dimensions:

# Width 10.5"(180mm) x Depth 1.25" (32mm) x Height 2.25" (82mm)

10.5" = 266mm
2.25" = 57mm

So what are the real specs??

Check it out! http://www.xtreamer.net/ was just updated with a slick intro video that pops up on loading the main site. (It can also be accessed again at any point by clicking 'TV Promo' at the top of the Xtreamer.net website.)

Nice job Xtreamer! Great promo and the product is looking good!

A lot of your posts are edited. Can you confirm that you are the one editing?

Don't suppose that they are being censored, or that mysterious person in orders has "offered" a free unit for some "good" wording ??

Just joking, keep us posted.
Cheers

Yeah it's me. A lot of times I'll re-edit a post because I want to make sure I'm using the right words, that I can correct typos, or improve the flow of the post for people who are reading it -- and above all, so that I am communicating clearly in an easy to read fashion.

haha unlike a certain website I believe in proof-reading and spellcheck. Zing!

So, your posts about the copy and paste of Apply content got me a little bit more curious about the Xtreamer, and the validity of their claims.

So my curiosity getting the best of me I emailed Divx, Realtek, Dts, Dolby to inquire about the licenses Xtreamer claims to have.

In Realtek's case, to ask if they are part of the project, and if they truly make a "Realtek 128X (Special Edition)" and if they supplied them to Xtreamer.

(If they do make one, I asked if they could tell me the specs of the chip.)

Lets hope I can reply emails with good info!

DVD Menu Support:

1.While the Xtreamer is designed to play most popular media files and formats of movies and music you can find in the internet for download somtime you will come across a DVD that that you want to play in its original structure. The Xtreamer is the simplest unit to play and store your entire DVD collection in one digital Ultra portable place.

2.Backing up and playing DVD files is an extremely simple process with Xtreamer Media Players. All you have to do is to transfer all your DVD files (.VOB and .IFO) from your DVD to your Xtreamer HDD. Put all of these files in one folder (e.g. name of the movie/video).

Once all these files are in a folder on the Xtreamer, simply connect the Xtreamer to you TV and navigate to enter the folder. Select "Play" and the movie will start exactly like your DVD. You can use the DVD menus to choose languages/subtitles, etc., just like a DVD playback.

Another simpler way to for playing DVD's, and the way to playback using the Xtreamer: Just select and play the first file, VIDEO_TS.IFO. If you have built your DVD structure correctly, it should play just fine with all menus and features.

Alternatively, you can also create an ISO image of your DVD. Xtreamer Media Players support ISO playback also!
