Tell me about it. Watching these Bostonians argue makes me want to put down my ale, roll up the ol' sleeves and start punching away. I don't care what I end up hitting.

Saw one of the deleted scenes, that I actually think could have been left. Because it gives a little more explanation how one of the "stupid" scientist thinks.

Wonder if Netflix will have the full version for rent on BD, or if it will be one of those damnable "rental" disks with nearly everything stripped out except the movie itself?

Which other unbelievably godawful movie made that in 4 months (w/ inflation adjusted)?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Avatar
The Dark Knight Rises

Out of those, how many are R rated sci-fi?

I prefer to ignore it completely.

Oh, are we qualifying this now? That isn't what you asked. Will you next limit it to R rated sci-fi movies that are exactly 124 minutes long? What other arbitrary criteria can you throw in to make your point seem valid? Do they have to star actors whose initials are M.F.?

Unbelievably awful movies rake in huge amounts of money all the time. If box office success is suddenly a measure of quality, then I guess The Phantom Menace is a masterpiece after all.

By the way, The Matrix Revolutions says hello.

That's right. I asked additional question, that's all.

Not arbitrary, it's a fact that R rated movies limit the size of demographics by its rating nature compared to PG-13 or PG. The examples you mentioned should be subjected to rating since you only listed none R rated ones. If you included them, then I wouldn't have asked the additional question.

Good movies rake in huge amounts of money too.

Masterpiece is reflected in box office success too. Also, unbelievably awful movies are box office failure as well.

Since I didn't get your answer for my previous question, let me ask you again, what 5 (+-) movies of last 10 years did you find not dumb or stupid and thus liked it?

Your question is so ignorant and insulting that I shouldn't even dignify it with a response.

I have thousands of movies in my collection. Many of them are from the last 10 years. To narrow the list down to a handful of movies of a comparable nature to Prometheus (i.e. big-budget blockbuster fluff), I found all of the following from the past five years to be perfectly enjoyable:

The Avengers
The Hunger Games
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
The last three or four Harry Potters
Super 8
Inception
The Star Trek reboot
The Dark Knight (though not Dark Knight Rises so much)
The Bourne Ultimatum (the previous two as well, but they go back more than 5 years)

While none of these may be intellectual masterpieces, nor are they insultingly stupid. Prometheus is insultingly stupid.
Maybe we can all treat this thread like an intense scene in Prometheus. Everyone just act like it never happened.

It was only a curiosity question. Internet forums being what it is, such question is necessary to figure out who is what and as I suspected, it can be seen as an insult from the other side of the computer screen but that's not what I meant. Never the less, you answered anyway. confused.gif

Hmm..., all PG-13 except for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (PG). I did enjoy The Hunger Games and Bourne series for suspense. MI3 was enjoyable for actions and HP were all good for what they are meant to be. Any thoughts on No Country for Old Men, District 9, Toy Story 3, Frost/Nixon, LOTR: The Return of The King?

If intellectual aspect of movie is what you are after, R rated movies should be tried more.

You are entitled to your own opinion and all I did was to put numbers, whose opinion is in the largest pool, whose is in the small fringe. For some reason, that didn't go down easy for some people.

As I explained, I was trying to name off other big-budget blockbuster type movies. Big-budget blockbusters these days are more often than not PG-13. This says nothing about what I think of R-rated content, which I have no problem with.

Liked it, liked it, liked it, didn't see it, wondered if it would ever end - in that order.

If an intellectual aspect was all I was looking for, I wouldn't ever go to see big-budget blockbusters in the first place. I can enjoy a popcorn movie as much as anyone else. I just prefer them not to be insanely stupid. You'd think that wouldn't be much to ask for, but apparently it is.

Citing box office numbers as a measure of quality is a fool's game. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen grossed over $800 million. Do you know a single person who would admit to liking it? The Phantom Menace grossed over $1 billion.

Intellectual aspect isn't the only thing the movies have. There are things with such but we don't call that movie.

Ask to whom, director, producer, screen writer or others?

Fool's game? Tell that to the (movie) investors. You do realize this is movie business, don't you?
When I said numbers, it's the review rating. Those who disliked Prometheus as much as you did are in the minority. Lets not forget, minorities are always around. Will the Hollywood care about the minority for their decision making process? I don't think so.

Yes, more than one. I saw couple on this forum.

You seem to have a difficulty distinguishing between "confirmation" and "question".
What about other questions I asked on that same post?

Looks like Ridley is connecting his Alien / Blade Runner universe,

Why use Guy Pearce in an old-man make-up in Prometheus? Because he'll play his younger self in the upcoming Blade Runner movie? Most likely.

I welcome this. smile.gif
