I told you guys AVP was linked to Prometheus.

I thought Meredith Vickers, played by Charlize Theron, was another in a line of despicable two-dimensional characters in Prometheus. Even the talented Ms. Theron couldn't breath life into a character who it seemed to me was just one more Bitch Goddess from central casting.

Great acting and Sci-Fi movie isn't typical combo, is it? I've heard about great acting and drama though.

I think the hype and want for a true ALIEN prequel / sequel makes that impossible to avoid anyways. I've read the other scripts, and I'm finding it hard to see how they were better, let alone would have been as successful in the theater. ALIEN after all was never high art, and there was little left to do with the franchise without just rehashing everything from the first film, to the horrible last AvP2.

I actually like the 2 AvPs.

There is only ONE real clunker in the Alien, AvP franchise.
IMO, it is A3.

Disappointment from some viewers can be traced to that expectation.

It doesn't have those "gaffes" the naysayers bring up. I think Damon Lindelof has been unfairly criticized. May be so but I think the quality grew over time in the minds of fans and new fans. RS did try to bring something different. Even the title has no mention of alien or sequel, not even the letter "A".
Despite my disappointment with RS for veering off of Lindelof's script that much (my speculation), I think this movie too will grow in the minds of fans and new fans over time.

I agree with Oink, i will take A4 WAY over A3 any day. I too feel A3 is the only one in the series i did NOT like.

I will never forgive him for how badly he botched the last season of LOST. Took what could have been the greatest television series of all time, IMO, and turned it into something very average, and which negated nearly everything that had come before. Considering how awesome the first 5 seasons were, it was shockingly incompetent work. It wasn't all him, granted - his partner Carlton Cuse deserves his fair share of the blame - but Lindelof was the head writer and creative lead.

I don't know anything about LOST as I don't watch TV much at all. As far as Prometheus goes, I think DL has been unfairly criticized. If you haven't, give his script a try.

I will say one thing though, JS is a better writer in terms of techniques. His writing is smoother, IMO.

The director shepherds the script long before the shooting starts.

Thanks for the link. I had not read DL's script before assuming it would be very close to the movie.

It reads very close to the movie.
Here and there it seems RS bungled the script a bit - most notably the handling of the penis monster scene. Over all the movie represents the DL script imo.

One would imagine RS pointed DL in the direction he wanted to go - away from a pure horror/action take, to a more religious/faith/philosophical angle. Really, all DL did was delete what would have been the best horror scene in the movie, reduce Shaw's, Ripley-esque buttkicking action and make David a more neutral and sympathetic character. He then replaced the action and horror with a bunch of religous dialogue between Shaw, and anyone she could find and added the akward Weyland scenes. DL also changed the true motivation of Weyland from seeking terraforming technology, which spaights had a very believable premise for, to the strained reach that somehow weyland could gain immortality. For me, these changes make it a weaker movie. I still enjoy it for what it is, but the Spaights script would have been a funner ride.

Overall, yes. The details are what got changed such as terraformed atmosphere inside the pyramid and how the snake scene went. Those two are some of the most common complaints.

Since I have semi grown-up, I realize size may not be the defining characteristic of monsterism....my wife isn't big.
