Oh. My. God. Based on the claims of the loathsome fraud Erich Von Daniken?? I think my interest in this film just died.

Time has not been 'Merciful' for sword and sandal. On the day it played well.

I saw it opening weekend. I knew it was the worst movie of the year right then.

What would you consider top 10 movies of last 10 years? Just curious...
Really Josh? I can't tell if you're just being sensational or if you really believe something so asinine.

Let's see..

Mission Impossible 2
The 6th Day
Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle
Battlefield Earth
Big Mommas House
Blair Witch 2
Charlie's Angels
Dude where's my car?
Dracula 2000
Gone in 60 seconds
Hollow Man
Little Nicky
Mission to Mars
Romeo Must Die
Rules of Engagement
The Skulls
Scream 3
Shaft 2000
Vertical Limit
Eye of the Beholder
Reindeer Games

And the list goes on of movies apparently better than Gladiator.

Maybe there's a correlations between money spent and quality of product.

My opinion on Gladiator has deteriorated over the years as many movies begin to show their flaws as better movies of the genre emerge. Having said that, Gladiator was very good at release and is still a watchable movie in my opinion.

Thanks - So far, Ridley is doing a great job of keeping anything related to the script away from us. The (leaked?) set pics look unfinished.

Besides, in the Gladiator genre, which one has emerged since 2000?

Agree, sets don't look finished to me neither.

There has been some good ones and some not so good.

I believe some around here with a "negative" opinion of Gladiator feel threatened uncomfortable watching sweaty scantily clad men grappling on the ground.
I guess some are just more sensitive to that kind of thing than others....

Let's see..

Of the movies you've listed, I've seen the following:

Mission Impossible 2
The 6th Day
Battlefield Earth
Big Mommas House
Charlie's Angels
Dude where's my car?
Gone in 60 seconds
Hollow Man
Little Nicky
Mission to Mars

Some of these are pretty crappy, but the only one that gives Gladiator a run for its money is Battlefield Earth, IMO. I might concede that Gladiator is tied with that one for worst movie of 2000. Fair?

I think The 6th Day is fun in a guilty pleasure way. And M:I-2 isn't quite so bad if you pretend that it's not a Mission: Impossible sequel and is just a John Woo action flick.

I don't like making lists. I would have to think about this for a while.

Yeah, that's it. I must be a homophobe. Has nothing to do with the movie being dumber than the dirt it was filmed in.

Maybe that tractor is a Transformer. Maybe this will be Aliens vs Transformers and that is the first Agri-bot. Don't laugh, this is Hollywood we're talking about...

So Is ‘Prometheus’ Just A Rewrite of Jon Spaihts ‘Alien’ Script Made Like A Less Direct Prequel?

Sshhh! You just know there's a Hollywood producer lurking on this thread. Don't give them any ideas!

Seems to be everyone's opinion. Hints that Shadow 19 might contain elements that made it into Spaihts early draft are interesting. I think it's a little too military, and the science of the reproducing transport might be a little tricky for screen. Hard to say.
At this point everyone probably thinks the cast is going to be together in a single ship like the other films. It might be something very different.

Ridley wants to explore the Jockey's origin. Good enough for me.

Yeah, me too.

We simply don't have enough info on the exact plot to make an intelligent deduction yet....

Jesus, that's gotta be the best plot I've ever read. Unseen planets and universes is so dreamy. And to think it will be directed by RS who pioneered this genre with alien will make it #1 must see of 2012 or decade for that matter. Just hope it's at least 3 hours long with many sequels, any deep space travel film and esp of that magnitude just makes me hornier than a rabbit.

And M. Night Shamallamadingdong gave us The Sixth Sense....and The Happening. My point? I try not to get too excited about movies these days.

I can't wait to see the title card coming at me in its first trailer: "Alien: Promiscuity"....
