Not the navigators, science and flight officers.

Now that's something to think about. It's harder to futurize the look than retrotize.

You need to find yourself a girl mate.

Kidding. I just like that line from Pirates of the Caribbean.

I was just going to say something similar to that. I used to review movies, do my homework, and make a game out of how fast I could guess the outcome. One day, I went to a particular movie and invited this stunning blond to go with me. When I tried to impress her with my "geekness", she cocked an eye at me and said, "Are you going to talk so you can impress yourself or are you going to shut up and enjoy the movie?"

What can I say? I shut up because I was with a stunning blond.

Guys, to be honest, I didn't know anything about the details of Nostormo or Prometheus until yesterday when I did Google search. It only took about 3 minutes to find all sorts of things posted online. I think those posters are the ones who need to get a girlfriend. The amount of details they posted are just stunning. Where did they find time to search out all those...?
As for me, I'm more of a jock than a geek. It's just that my work load is almost non-existent (the economy) so I have some free time to make myself look geeky online.

.

IMO, there is way WAY too much info available on the internets about this movie.
I have been refusing to watch any more of the trailers.

The first sci-fi in decades from a guy who made 2 of the genre's greatest classics....
I want to be as naive as a lamb when I sit down at the IMAX 3D for Prometheus next month.

So much so that many of the 'elements' in the film have agreed upon nick names across many boards.

How awful is the Coors light / Prometheus combination? Seriously?

Bad enough the NBA feels the need to combine highlights with every summer blockbuster movie, but now a beer promotion in a sci-fi trailer?

For those of you who live in or near NYC and want to see any of Ridley Scott's films in 35mm over the next ten days...

I'm with you on that.

I lowered my head, and covered my ears, during the trailer before The Avengers. The people behind me must have thought that I scare easily.

Since I've read that the trailers give away too much, I have successfully avoided watching any.

I started to do the same thing, until I realized that the trailer was the same as the first major trailer released a month or so ago. I am avoiding seeing any other trailer until I park my butt in my local IMAX theater on 06/10.

I am sure RS has heard by now this talk on the internets about possible spoilers.
I wonder what he thinks about it all?

Idris Elba seems to think we're being silly. Says there's much more to the film than what we're seeing in the marketing. We'll know soon enough

OK, for the trailers I agree. If you cover them all, you get a picture you might not want if you like going in cold. However....the viral vids on the various Wayland sites are full of obvious background info to whet the appetite.
In my opinion, none of it spoils, but.....

People with a very active imagination probably don't require this much 'Baby Sitting'

I know this seems a little dumb...
But I am actively trying to forget everything I have seen/heard about Prometheus.
Of course, this is easy to do when one is 56 years old...

Roger That

We're at a point where there ARE screenings. A few leaky shots are going around and Fox is pulling stuff quickly.

The infamous 'Twitter Girl' discussion is confirmed and impossible to 'Pull'. After reading most of it I'm really excited about the story.

Here's a nice, fairly lengthy article on/interview with Ridley Scott, covering Prometheus and Scott's early career.

Novice or not, Shadow 19 was great. Nice mention in the article.

"In late 2008, the studio hired Jon Spaihts to script the film after the neophyte had drawn acclaim for another screenplay, Shadow 19, set in a future where two remaining superpowers fight for remaining resources"

Reading more about the development of the script and the intentions of Ridley, Lindelof
in trying to make the film character driven makes the film sound more promising.
Charlize Theron comes off as one-note in the trailers, but interviews with her point to character development/surprises, which I'm glad to hear.

LOL

...I'm not watching the Prometheus' trailers or any other exclusive thingy until I buy my ticket! I tried to do the same with TDKR and I mostly succeeded. The way things are made public the second after they happen nowadays is really annoying to say the least. During TDKR's shooting, it's almost as if we knew when Bale had to take a pee. I want to know how they made the film after watching it, not before. I want the pleasure of discovering the film.

There's really no mystery to how movies are made these days. Anything interesting that appears on screen was done in a computer. That's pretty much the sum total of it. There are virtually no more miniatures, trick shots or false perspectives with complicated camera rigs.

"Gee, I wonder how they got that impossible shot... Oh, it's CGI, right. Huh."

Didn't watch Inception, I take it?

Or any Christopher Nolan film, for that matter. The man hates CGI. Nearly every special effects shot in Inception and Dark Knight was done in camera.
There is actually a lot of CGI in Nolan's BATMAN films, but nowhere near as much had any other director been behind the camera. If it can be done without CGI, he does it without CGI.

Exactly.

It's been YEARS since I have watched a "Making of..." featurette from a disk.
Doing so, gives my Suspension of Disbelief a shot in the crotch.
