Replay 5060 - Blue light goes out and screen blanks

Hey guys,

I was hoping someone could help me diagnose a problem with my Replay 5060. We've been using this device for years and absolutely love it. The hard drive was replaced a few years ago with a larger one.

You plug the Replay into the wall and the blue LED power light comes on, the fan starts up and the system starts to boot up. The initial "Replaytv Please Wait" screen appears. Then, the "Welcome to Replay One moment please...." screen appears and finally the main screen appears where you should be able to get to the Channel guide or recorded shows menu.

Once the main screen appears, it's on for about 15 seconds and then the whole system cuts out and the power is off and it doesn't work. You are left with a blank screen. The blue power light is off.

I'm tempted to think that the power supply is bad - but I'm just guessing here. Anyone have any ideas? We've tried unplugging the coax and leaving it unplugged overnight.

Thanks!

Could be the p/s or it could be a seized drive. Check the p/s scews to see if they are tight, and check the cable on it for signs of tarnish or burning. Pull it on and off a few times or hit the contacts with a emery cloth. Unplug the drive power and see if the power light stays on. Mikeyboy has a list of the voltages the pins should read. It should be here somewhere. Easy to fix whatever it is.

I'll ask the stupid question...

Did you turn the RTV back on? Is the power button on the console non-responsive?

Usually when a RTV re-boots, it will be 'on' until booting is complete, and then it powers down to standby, ready to record whatever is on its list.... Video output will be a blank screen if using component, composite, or S-Vid. RF will be passed through. The unit is usually unresponsive for a few seconds once the swirl / three choice screen makes its appearance.

Cheers!

Doug,

Thank you! Occam's Razor strikes again.

Sadly, I am ashamed. It totally works now. I swear I tried to turn it on via the remote when it first broke.

Yeah, what you are describing is exactly how the RTV works. It boots up, pauses a little bit, and then powers off. Actually, it is supposed to come up in the same power on/off as it was when it rebooted. So, if it was on when it rebooted, then it is supposed to reboot and stay on. If it was off when it rebooted, then it is supposed to reboot and turn off (after the long pause)...

So, if you had a problem turning it on after it finished rebooting and turned itself off, if only the remote couldn't turn it on, then either the remote or batteries are bad or something happened to the IR detector on the RTV. If it wouldn't turn on from the power button on the front of the unit, then possibly the front panel is bad or maybe got unplugged...
