Is this what they've been working on?!?!?! GREEK and KOREAN subtitles? Bravo WD TV Team. FAIL.

Top 5 WDTV user/community desired features according to UserVoice

#1 Full DVD ISO Menu support
#2 Support for network adapters and network shares
#3 Decode DTS to Stereo Downmix
#4 USB drive power off
#5 Copy, delete and transfer files directly from WDTV

Progress made towards these goals = 0%
Really?? I had hoped for more then this, maybe they just added this to the beta stage cause they are ready to drop 1.03, I sure hope so.
Ohh, enough already!

1) this may be pending the license from DVD forum
2) why? you have unofficial firmwares or N(etworked)MT...what if a particular adapter won't work?
3) hardware impossibility?
4) hardware impossibility?
5) that would be nice

why greek??? because I think WD shxt their pants for all the Spartans at the gates

so in short, stop requesting what is outside of common sense...

Apparently common sense is not so common. I wasn't requesting anything, simply relaying what thousands in the community of WD TV owners have most requested, and contrasted that with the 'fruits' of WD TV Team's labor.

As for #3. No this is not a hardware impossibility at all. This is a money issue. The Sigma chip is fulling capable of DTS downmix, but as WD has itself admitted, despite their deep pockets they are too cheap to pay licensing fees and instead prefer to provide users a gimped player who's fuller functionality is possible but restricted by choice.

Nice to know Xtreamer will be doing #1-5 at launch and much more (minus any bitching or excuses). Not buying the WD TV (or selling your WD TV), I'd say that's what's common sense now.

There's a definitely some fail going on, but it isn't WD still making new firmwares trying to fixes actual issues.

1) Full DVD ISO Menu support

Features should come AFTER fixes, what good is Full DVD ISO menu support if a large segment of users still can't use the device?

2) Support for network adapters and network shares

This is not a feature of the device, never was, if you wanted a networked player, should have bought one. Or, you can use the numerous custom firmwares that allow it.

3) Decode DTS to Stereo Downmix

Was never a feature, or a promise, and they have all but said it isn't going to happen, should have bought one that does it.

4) USB drive power off

It is not possible. this has already been explained by WD.

5) Copy, delete and transfer files directly from WDTV

They have already said they are working on this, and it will probably be included once they have fixed actual problems. I personally don't want the WD to be able to delete, copy, or move anything from my drives.

Such a bunch of whiners

Agreed. Anyone who wants more than 1/3 or 1/2 of their collection to work reliably or a robust hassle-free media player should probably stay away from and not purchase the WD TV.

Good to know WD is still trying to fix the bugs, i hope the subtitles are rendered better for people that need them

I hope they concentrate first on bug fixing and not on features just yet.

WD never promised DTS downmix get over it.

I really hope the Xtreamer does all it promises to do and does it well, but i cant help but think of all the bitching thatll start once people get it and its missing so-and-so feature never promised.

Another pre-release drop for me to skip.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you collection is DTS, than you aren't doing yourself any favors by having it downmixed to stereo (besides, you can convert it to AC3 or stereo and have no problems whatsoever, which is what someone that is making hteir own backups, that can't play DTS would do anyway), and more often than not, anyone that has an actual collection, you know, one they bought, and didn't download, will have the means to play DTS as lots of DVD players, and AVRs, and I believe all blu-ray/HDDVD players can already decode DTS. Lol at using "robust" to describe downmixed DTS.

There's something funny about people that buy the cheapest, most feature lacking, HD media player out, and then complain about it on internet forums.

In your mind. In mine it does exactly what I want it to, transmit .mkvs to my TV and stereo for watching (it even sends my DTS audio to my AVR to play nice and loud on my home theater), and plays music, all perfectly for half the price of any other player out at the time of purchase.

I didn't buy it to play DVDs, I have a DVD player, I didn't buy it to hook up to my computer, or downmix my audio, or network with other devices, or download Netflix, or edit my files.
I prefer these incremental betas to one big release that might have a ton of bugs.

Fix a bit at a time. Granted, wish the fixes could come out quicker, but, eh, for $90, I can't complain.

I remember paying $300 for my first DVD player.
anybody having sync issues?
xj0hnx +1

stop all the whining about things that were never a feature and were never promised.

some of the features you whiners are looking for are things that the wdtv was never intended to do and left out for specific reasons.

if you needed these features why did you buy the wdtv? and why did you just not go buy a nmt clone for over twice the money that does what you want, kinda. (although the gui sucks)

i think alot of you should have actually checked into the features of the wdtv before you bought it.

sorry rant almost over

and ps, can we get a subforum for the wdtv whiners club?
i don't want anything too advanced. Just want to play my .mov files from my digital Canon camera. Its LPCM using sowt codec. Videos are fine but audio's don't work. Anyone with a new Canon camera that records HD video (SD960, SD780, SD970, EOS 5D Mark 2, etc) is affected. Please WD - add the codec. You specs say you support both .mov and LPCM.

What is your WD connected to, and how is it connected?
WD, please make the Zoom In/Out function at a smaller incremental step than it is now!!! Instead of say 50% +/- with each press, make it 10% +/-. Thank you!
The important thing is WD to fix first the bugs and all the things they say that box do
post #20 of 528
The release notes made me laugh.

Did anyone test the new firmware already?
Is (inofficial) USB hub support back? If not screw it and trash the whole thing.
Well, let me tell you one thing:

Greek subs are indeed fixed! LOL
like i say many times .... WD Comp. sucks with development of firmware ....
Prerelease 1.02.10 (06/16/2009)
Prerelease 1.02.08 (05/18/2009)

sow one month for GREEK and KOREAN subtitles ?

i don't want to think how long take to made a realy features implemented ....

sow NO comment ...
And the moaning story goes on...I don't know why are you still here, waiting for things to happen..."there is no future except what we make for ourselves"...either get your hands dirty with programming of shut the **** up and go get something that has fw updates on a daily basis!!! I can't believe you people!!!

May i just point out that another gargantuan 1080p mkv played without any sync problem, all 2 hrs and 33 mins of it!!!!

This is what i want to know also.

/Not installing any firmware until i can use a hub.
//might buy a popcorn hour soon until the firmware is more advanced
///will use this in the bedroom though, instead of selling it (maybe)
So they fixed the subs... well... this can be good... for them to fix the subs, probably they tuned the firmware to take less processing power from the chip... that can solve indirectly the audio out of sync or 1080p+DTS+External subs issues... I have to install it and see...

I know that some are asking for features that WD TV doenst have... but lets face it, most of that features are vulgar now in the HD Player segment and it would be nice for WD TV to have them...

For me... I just want the bugs fixed and Autodetect Framerate...

EDIT:

Some people in Portugal are saying that the sync issue is not solved yet... its better than 1.02.08 but not fixed yet...

Nice to see portuguese in the menus!
At last Greek subs are working normally!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks WD...
A feature that not exists but that I would find very useful is the possibility to switch off the "On screen display"...
when one pause the video to read the subtitles he must press "enter" to view them! (I don't know how many of you can read *always* the entire subtitle phrase without loosing some word).

Perhaps already does exist a method that I didn't know to remove OSD?

Actually, you don't know what they've been working on, just what they've released.

And I would suspect that any *NEW* features (such as you list there) are being worked on for the 1.03 release of the firmware. 1.02 will be bug fixes of existing features (plus the occasional minor new feature if it's deemed easy enough to impliment). See that's the way software releases generally work. a major release number (1.01, 1.02, 1.03 in WDTVs case) is given a set of major new features to implement and the minor relases numbers (1.02.08, 1.02.10 for example) are for bug fixes to the features that already exist or are new to that major release number and occasionally easy to impliment minor new features that might not have been in the original plans for the major release number (an example of which would be the toggle they added so the user can have subtitles on or off by default)

I wouldn't expect to see these until 1.03 FW is released (if at all)

Was never an intended feature. If you wanted networking you should have bought a unit that promised it or else stick to the homebrew fws that provide it.

from that same site that you got this list
"admin: The current product is not capable of completely turning off the USB bus. The latest firmware (1.02.07) will spin down drives, but their LEDs may stay on, which can make it seem like the drives are still on."

Again, you don't know what progess they've made, you only know what they've released. And what they released was a bug fix release not a new features release. New features release won't be until they're ready to release 1.03 fw

Good news for Greek and Korean users. Nothing that affects me, so this is one of the betas I'll skip since the 1.02.08 is working perfectly fine for me.
