Players capable of handling PAL or 50i intro screens? (like UK Region A releases)

Greetings, all. A number of region A releases have come out that would be fine and dandy on my PS3, but their PAL or 50i intros cause all U.S. PS3's to simply say NOPE and shut the disc down. There is no way to skip those intros.

Is there a player out there capable of handling that troublesome, annoying aspect of UK releases?

HIGHLANDER has just been released and has the un-screwed-with soundtrack. No lines of dialogue removed, making it the Holy Grail for me.

I must be able to play this release or my head will explode. Not kidding.

Having searched for about an hour now online and in this forum I am not finding answers, likely because I am looking in the wrong places, so forgive me if this has been dealt with already.

There can be only one!

P.S. I am not talking about region free here. Hey, if there is a region free player that can handle all advanced playback features, cool, tell me about it. My primary motive here is for Region A releases and getting through their pesky non NTSC intro screens.

SD DVD are released in NTSC, PAL or SEMAC while the world wide standard for BluRay is 1080P/24. Region codes for SD DVD are 1 - 8 for BluRay they are A, B and C.

The Momitsu BDP-899 player is region free for both SD DVD and BluRay and includes a video converter for converting PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL. I own a Momitsu and many PAL SD DVD's of various regions. I can confirm this player will convert PAL SD DVD's to NTSC and allow my 52" Sony Bravia to properly display the video. The Sony Bravia is an NTSC LCD.

I did purchase the BluRay of Boys From Brazil from Amazon UK and the Momitsu was able to play the DVD. I don't have any DVD's in 1080i/50 so I can't comment on whether the Momitsu can play DVD's in that format.

You can buy this player from HKFlix.

The new Oppo player should be able to handle the PAL material, as long as it's not coded for a different region.

Most of the UK releases are Region A. But most have non-HD video to start of the discs when they load and usually it's in the PAL format. That can cause trouble for American players. Some titles don't suffer this, like BLACK BOOK (great movie and BD).

I'll check out the Momitsu. Been reading about the Oppo. Looks like an interesting, if expensive, player.

I know that a few US blu-ray players like Samsung 1400, 1500, 2500 and Pioneer players (source direct mode) can play BDs with 50hz content (if region free).
It would be very nice if Sony releases a FW update to enable the PAL content playback in the US BD players (PS3, S350, S550, S360 and S560).

Here is a thread on 1080i50 titles which includes a list of players that will do what you want: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1117941.

The OPPO BDP-83 plays both 1080i50 and 480i50 on Blu-ray as well PAL DVDs (but is limited to region 0 and 1 DVDs). It will also convert 50hz to 60hz if you need that.
