NOt many big screen options available. Any ideas?

Hi All,
I currently own a 61" JVC LCOS display and its been great for 4 years or so. I'm looking to upgrade but not many options in the 65" and above category. A projector is out and I'm not sure about DLP displays. Any other options besides a plasma? How does a plasma compare to LCOS? I want at least a 65" display that won't break the bank.
Thanks,
Joe

Err, your choice, for that kind of size, are only really a FP or RP.

Front Projectors will go larger, but need some extra kit.

Rear Projectors (like the Mits 73s and soon to be out 82s) are pretty much the only thing that you'll get in bigger than 60/65 that won't break the bank.

For plasma or LCD larger than about 60, you'd better have several children to sell into slavery......

RP and Plasma seem to be on the wane, with LCDs not much larger than 60. FP may be the only real way to go soon.

That reads like a sad story if not for Mitsubishi. It's like manufacturers are forcing folks to buy the smaller lcd sets. I would buy a projector before buying one of those midget sets. I'm going to be picking up one of the Mits myself. The saying goes that people who buy small wish they had gotten a bigger set and people who purchased big had no regret. I hope Mitsubishi stays in the RP game for some time.

might i suggest trying to pick up one of the sammy 2008 LED DLP models. I'd guess they are still better than the new mits. (I personally liked the samm 2008 vs mits 2008 models)

I have a 4 year old 70" lcos and IMO there are a ton of fantastic options to replace it with today. The Sammy 72" for $2k or the Mits 73 for a bit more seem like good choices. I picked up an Olevia 65" lcd for the bedroom and it compares nicely to my old 70" lcos. Very bright and punchy. It is an LCD so it does suck slightly compared to plasma but wtf it is just for the BR. I was going to replace the 70" and then discovered front projection and made a separate dedicated theater room for the projector. I watch casual tv on the 70 in the family room and serious movies and sports in the theater. I am happier with the 70 now than I have ever been because for casual sitcom or Kids content type viewing it still puts out a great HD pic. I have no intention of replacing it ANY time soon and hope it runs for 10 more years. The PJ screen is 4 times larger for scope material than the 70" and even puts out a better pic at that much larger size. If you can control your environment just a little and want it BIG nothing can touch front projection. I am shocked it took me so long to figure it out.

Mitsubishi's the only player left on the RPTV ballfield. Sure you can find a Sammy here and there and maybe even a Sony LCOS (since you're used to that technology) but for a new 2009 definitely look at a Mits. You won't be disappointed.

The time for arguing which RP brand is better is over. The new Mits DLPs are excellent and we're lucky they stuck around supporting us for another year. Anyone ready for a 60"+ screen loaded with the latest features and at a bargain price better get one this year!

No one here knows for sure but looking at recent history it's very likely.
