Blu Ray Player Synthetic and Real World Tests Comparisons

Do you mind put up a comparison for Samsung P3600? Thank you! I am deciding between Samsung P3600 and LG 390 due to their features~

No panasonic listed on load times? Your tests in post two for SD-DVD were done with the Panasonic outputting 1080p/24 on SD-DVD?

You know the Panasonic is a little odd to get it to display 1080p/24 from SD-DVD. Are you sure? I only ask because in other testing I have read about I thought I remembered it passing ship and verical scrolling tests, but not when outputting 1080i, only when outputting 1080p/24...

You can't auto set it for the player. You have to hit display after the content starts, move down to video, and then over to the 1080p/24 option, then arrow up. The display will go blank / no signal while it resyncs.

Back then when I looked at the reference doccument I cannot find now, I am pretty sure it listed all the tests passing only when set to 1080p/24.

Didn't know the LG BD390 was such a quick standalone. Thought it was always only the Oppo & JVC that were quick.

Oppo made a hardware change sometime after the first batch went out for the EAP program. The current BDP-83 has an eject time of around 2 seconds from a powered off state. Mine was shipped the first part of May and has the new fast eject functionality FWIW.

Isn't it 4 seconds for the newly shipped Oppo's going by the FAQ?

Load times- They are from the Tray open position?

I also remember reading that when playing Video, you need to manually change the player from auto to video, also with the display button I believe.

So many things these days to remember to set. It is a bit of a PITA. I just got a bunch of best of SNL's and I have to change that manually or it's performance isn't so great for sure.

These are just questions. It's always good to make sure a tester has dotted their "i"'s and crossed their "t"'s you know. Rare that a tester would have enough experience as a long term owner to catch some of this stuff is all.

That auto setting is never good for Video material in my experiences.

Same for me. I just pushed the eject button while power was off.

Interesting the selections on the Panasonic are auto or video as in they already knew something was up with the auto setting in regards to video material.

The Spears & Munsil Blu-ray test disc has some useful material that can show differences in basic player performance based on different output options/display combinations. In particular I noticed the Chroma Resolution tests (Chroma multiburst and Chroma zone plate) can show noticeable differences between players and color space output options i.e. YCbCr 4:4:4/4:2:2, RGB. There are also other test such as chroma alignment that may/may not be adjustable (YC delay) on some players/displays but it may be useful to test how it performs at default with different display combinations for those that can't adjust.

These maybe a useful tests to include as in essence they apply to all material.

Too bad you don't have the Samsung BD-UP5000 to compare against the BH200 along with the rest. THAT you are likely not to find at Best Buy at this juncture. ;(

In my set up (720p over HDMI sent directly to a panny 900 or passed through an older yamaha 5990), the oppo bdp-83 starts with a split second of bleacher moire in the Spears and Munsil 2:2 race car scene on all passes when the de-interlacing is set to auto, but it handles the scene fine if I force 2:2.
