I know same here, almost wish didnt have th 2930 sometimes as does a great job makes it hard passing it up for something else hehe

what I get probably only for my bedroom system so the 2010 would be more than plenty I would think. would mean my 2930 can migrate back down to my main system where it has resided before

Denon owners.....a little help......if you have a Denon Bluray and a Denon DVD, how do you isolate the one component from the one you want to use with the remote. In other words, when I am watching a DVD, my bluray player is reading the commands and flipping on/off with the Denon remote for the DVD player.

With the DVD-3800BDCI and the DVD-2500BDCI you can set them up for a second set of IR codes and the remote can be programed for it as well. It's on page 6 of the manual. I'm not sure if the same applies for the new ones. I have yet to get my hands on one or look through the manual.

Don't think there are any members who have actually bought one of these yet.
I personally am waiting for it to hit more of the one-line retailers, as I certainly don't want to pay the prices they are currently asking.

After looking through the manual, it looks like the BDP-2010CI only decode the core dts and standard Dolby Digital internally. Can anyone verify this / come to the same conclusion I have?

I think you are reading it wrong; the footnotes that you are reading relate to mixed audio out setting when including secondary audio stream. This is the same limitation most players have with secondary audio via HDMI.

It also looks like no onboard memory, an SD card will be required for BD LIve.

I don't think it's limited to the Mix Audio output. With both the Normal (which is used primarily for bitstreaming) and LPCM settings it just decodes the core. I talked to someone at Denon and he confirmed it doesn't decode the HD audio formats over HDMI. He said he believed it does over the analog outputs, but I don't see any mention of that in the manual. I don't believe it does at all.

The preliminary spec sheets we received said it does as well. It just doesn't appear to do it from the chart in the manual. I hope it does, it just doesn't look like it.

From the manual:
'If "BD Audio Mode" is set to "HD Audio Output" or if the BD title does not have secondary or interactive audio, the audio will be output as shown in the table'.

'If "BD Audio Mode" is set to "Mix Audio Output" and the BD title has secondary or interactive audio,the audio will be output as follows:' Then the footnotes referring to the limited output.

Denon's manuals usually are horrible, but it make no sense for the player to be able to decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD and not be able to send it through HDMI 1.3 fully as LPCM

Most of the newer Blu-ray players presently on the market offer significantly faster load times then last years models, so if the criteria is just watching BD movies, why is this player exciting?

I understand what you mean to a point but, eventually Blu Ray will completely replace standard DVD, as it should. DVD video and sound quality are inferior to Blu Ray disc.

I think it would depend on your receiver and what kind of versatility you need from a player. I only need the 2500 and use it as a transport for my Denon 5308CI.

When you look at both product sheets. The 2500 is a much larger and heavier player. To me that means quality. I like my players built like a tank.

The attractive feature on the 2010 for me is the ethernet. I hate doing those confounded firmware updates with the 2500 because it involves downloading software, unzipping it, burning a disc, punching in crazy codes and then finally you have an updated player. Sheesh! I wish Denon would have put an ethernet in the 2500. That is the only reason the 2010 looks attractive to me. I don't need all the other input options, I would rather see that money spent elsewhere, like on build quality.

For strict output of audio, video over HDMI, is there any advantage to this player versus the Oppo? I have the latter and am quite happy with it but need a second player. A priority is quality of video scaling and processing not just for DVD but for media files played from USB (or in this case, apparently, SD.) Does anyone know what video formats this player will play off SD? I assume the standard x264, divx, but I'm not certain. The Oppo seems like the better choice for my needs on first glance, but I like variety and this is in the price range so I've been thinking about it.

seems to say it fully supports TrueHD and DTS MA decoding.

Does anyone have a link to the RS-232 protocol / commands for the 2010CI player? I have my AMX programmer over the house today and would like to be able to get the commands added today. Unit hasn't arrived yet.

Just hooked mine up yesterday. Here are some preliminary observations:

1) Loading times are on a par or better than my Panasonic DMP-BD55.

2) Player will decode DTS-HD-MA and output over HDMI over LPCM (My receiver showed 8 channels received on a 7.1 BR, so unless DTS core includes 7.1, the player decodes and outputs over HDMI via LPCM) I did not have a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD BR to test.

3) Preliminarily, standard DVD picture appears better than my DVD-2930 with its Silicon Optix Reon chip. So player appears to be worth the extra $100 over the DBP-1610

4) Build quality is not on a par with my 2930.

5) Player required firmware upgrade out of the box.

6) For those who care, BD Live requires use of an SD card.

7) Player can be tied to the remote to avoid conflicts with other Denon DVD remotes.

I will give the player a more comprehensive workout over the next few days and report back.

Thanks for the clarification. To me, the manual makes little sense about what it can decode. I know what the manual says and it appears on one statement that it will decode the HD formats and the next it doesn't. I understand how the mix audio works but the manual isn't clear.

Thanks. How would you describe the superior DVD upscaling compared to you 2930? What is your display?

Distressing to hear about the build quality, but not surprising considering the 2930 retailed for $850 when it first came out.
Seems like this is the wave of the future, as the build quality seems to be diminishing on most units, with the exception of high ticket items.
Still I don't think the build quality of this player could be anything less than the Oppo (made in China) and still has Denon quality components and styling.

I had this same reaction about build quality when I went from a Denon 3930ci to a 2930ci player.

I have a Pioneer Kuro PDP-5010FD. I didn't have time to do a lot of comparisons but what I did notice on Gladiator is better blacks on the 2010 as opposed to my 2930 (I had previously increased the black level adjustment on the 2930, there appears to be no such adjustments on the 2010).
