Just a precision: in Europe the model is DBP-2010 whereas in the US it is DBP2010CI,

So I voted on DBP2010CI although I don't own exactly this model.

Call with Jerrod from Denon CS:

They have not received any reports of freezing. Question about ventillation and firmware were asked.

He said if it's still malfunctioning i can take it into service locally.
one would think that a premium product - $700 msrp - would garner a bit more interest on the part of denon in the event of partial failure affecting multiple units. i recommend everyone take the time to write a review of the player on amazon, bestbuy, and other large national etailers. let's get the word out if denon won't recognize it.

Very bizarre.
I have not heard of any other DVD freezing incidents with the Denon players or the Panasonic BD60 & BD80 players.

Just as I suspected they would say. No reports even though I just called them 2 days ago with same problem....Denon you suck. I guess the $700 units dont matter to them anymore since they are High-End now.

It may have to do with the movies or some new copy protection as well.

Some people mentioned this four movies, this may be the issue..
Too bisarre that the same movies freezes..
A bd disc may for instance have poor writing compared to others..
Also check if its the same release, since the bd release between world regions vary very much...

To be sure, one should try this movies on another bd player..

Edit.. Sony glitch as well?? What does this mean?

Please, This is a completely random problem similar to what Panasonic owners are experiencing. Not all of us have had problems with the same discs. Those that have had problems with the same title, the freezes were not in the same place. I expect more from a $700 msrp player.

has everyone logged a call in with denon today?

The first three digits on Denon serial numbers are the year and month of manufacture so yours was built in August of 2009. I don't think the serial number that was listed that started with 707 is accurate. The BDP-2010CI was not around then.

I previously had the DVD3910 in my system but many of the codes are missing for the 2010 functionality. Any ideas?

What URC do you have? All Denon BD players use the same IR codes and are, for the most part, the same as their DVD players. The BD players add some unique features but the main ones are the same if you are using codeset 1 on the player.

You guys crack me up!!
Do you expect tier 1 CS to have any actual knowledge about anything?
Well tier 1 CS everywhere do nothing but type in your question & read the answer off a script, these are entry level employees with no actual knowledge of the product & would know no more than what the script tells them.

You need to talk to a higher level of CS to get to someone that can actually diagnose a problem.
These are the people that see the reports from the tier 1 people & would see a pattern of problems.

Even if the person right before you told the tier 1 CS the same thing you did they can only read what is on the script & nothing else, demand to talk to a higher level of CS if you actually want to get some answers.

As for me I've seen zero freezes on my 2010ci so far.

If the disc has bad standard writing, it may stop anywhere.

Ofcourse best if Denon2010 could handle this..

If the same movies have/show errors, and on other bd players as well..
Then this may have something to do with the movies quality, or maybe the players and movies combined.

But still 2010 reads pretty ugly cds..

if the problem is really on the disc side, i think we would see similar freezes with other players. the concept of a tight laser is comical, and even if true, what is the advantage of having a laser so precious is can't be bothered to play some discs.

let's face it - this and a whole host of other players are assembled by funai in china next to the $100 toshiba and magnavox. what makes this player shine is the burr brown dacs and abt chip.

the underlying video componentry is probably still panasonic based and probably shares video componentry with the panny 60/80 and that's why both are getting these damn freezes. it's probably hardware-related - poor cooling or a chip that simply has brain farts.

i just hope that denon works with us on this - i could live with it if it were a $120 panasonic player that had freezes every other disc. For a $700 reference player, it's damn embarassing and probably knocks out yet another competitor for the Oppo.
Very well said Winston and I completely concur.
It was bad enough to have this freezing problem with my former Panny BD80, but with a pricey reference quality Denon player it is an embarrassment.
Tried to contact Denon but after not being able to get through for almost an hour I gave up.
Maybe I will try again Monday.

I have a delemma. I am considering the Denon DBP-2010CI blu-ray player, but see that the Denon DVD-3800BDCI is also available at or near the same price.

My viewing habits are primarily Blu-ray, with an occasional SD-DVD. I think both players should be able to do great job with SD-DVD, but that is not my primary determination for selection.

Importantly i need to know how much slower is the older 3800BDCI compared to the newer 2010CI. Have all the bugs been worked out with the 3800BDCI?

I dont care for SACD, DVD-Audio, youtube crap, netflix crap, etc.

The component output on 2010 is very good, with 12bit dedicated video dac.
You can scale with component so I think there is some abt in there as well..

I had a freeze yesterday on Terminator4 around 50 minutes from the beginning, and it lasted around 10 seconds.

Still waiting for Denon to answer...

You cannot scale with component. You are limited to 1080i for BD and 480i/p for SDDVD (unless the disc isn't flagged).

Please post in issue tracking thread. I intend to send Denon (and Marantz) the link.

Sorry that is not correct.

This is the possible options for scaling dvds via component in the setup menu.

480i/576P
480P/576P
720P
1080i

Just curious if you are the same HiFiguy that posts at remotecentral.com and is a Denon CI trainer?

you can't scale dvds stateside - only 480i or 480p. we have those component resolution options, but they're only for bd.
