Can you please time some laod times of popular titles like Dark Knight, Pirates of the Carribean, or Casino Royale? I have timed them on the 2500 and 1800 models. Thanks.

I really haven't had a whole lot of time to just play with it. It is solid and easy to use. Set up is a breeze with a lot of user settings. It also has a separate audio stage for 2 channel audio. Power on was 20 seconds. 25 using the drawer open to power on. Knowing loaded in around 50 seconds. DVD upconversion is extremely good. The only thing we are having difficulty with is whether or not it will scale SDDVD to 1080p/24. I am investigating and will report back. JJARRET and I can not seem to get it to function. Projector reports 1920X1080/60. Otherwise I love it.

great info. so if i press eject when powered off, it takes 20 seconds for the tray to open, right? bit slower than the denon 2500/1800 takes roughly 14 seconds.

Casino Royale takes roughly 40 seconds on the 1800/2500. Dark Knight around 42 for 1800, 48 seconds for 2500. Pirates I to the disney screen is roughyl 1min 3sec for 1800; 1 min 9 sec for 2500.

Have any of these titles?

How does SD upscaling compare to the 1800/2500?

2500 wasn't the greatest upscaler. The 2010 is heads above the 2500. Never did try the 1800. 20 seconds was an approximate. Actual drawer open using the eject button was 17 seconds. I have all three titles. I'll get some times tomorrow.

here's the load up times for the Denon 2010....

Casino Royale: 38 seconds to the Sony Screen
PoC1: 40 Seconds to coin and 50 to Disney Screen
Dark Knight: 37 seconds

still a bit shocked prices are hovering around $700. just can't see how this will compete with the $500 oppo

Regarding 1080p/24

It seems that the 2010CI will not scale to 1080p/24 as was originally thought it would. Still investigating. It seems that they are looking at only the 4010 being able to do that.

from what I've read the denon appears to have a better dac implementation and decent analog stage compared to the oppo. so wouldnt mind paying that little bit more on the denon for the for my analog 2.0 bedroom system

This might be true. My best guess is their respective analog output stages have to be very close. I wouldn't believe it until I heard for myself or a respected forum member did an honest shootout.

doesn't denon advertise forced 24fps? have they responded at all?

I'm trying to get my hands on the product comparison sheet for the 3 models (1610, 2010, and 4010). They never "officially" say it does 1080p/24 upscaling for SDDVD. My rep says it is reserved for the 4010. However the product sheet "implies" that it does.

1080p/24 video output, to bring out the full quality of film-originated material (doesn't this include SDDVD?)

However, the ABT 1030 might not be capable. I'll post more as the info becomes available.

gosh. i have got a dealer who is willing to sell me one south of 500, but can't seem to reconcile how this will be any better than an oppo save possibly the audio section.

does the zoom function work on non-java bds?

I actually haven't tried, but the manual says it does not on BD's.

sounds like it's indentical to the 1800/2500. i think i might sit this player out till there's a clear price advantage over the oppo. struggle to see any superior feature save the better styling!

I found the oppo 983 pretty average on analog and I havent seen any better comments on the oppo BD player. looking under the hood the oppo it uses a pretty average power supply, a 7.1 dac on a chip for mch analog out and pretty ordinary analog stage from what can see.

my denon 2930 I use currently in my bedroom system has a much better implemented power supply, analog stage, a proper descrete dac setup with decent dacs and decent quality analog stage and sounds pretty good over analog for it. If the 2010 anything like it, and by all accounts technically it appears so then certainly looks like something for me.

for many analog might not be a concern at all but it is for me in my totally analog bedroom setup. So important factor for me and one of the main reasons looking at the denon here who in my eyes have a much better track record analog wise

styling and looks pretty important to me as well, and the oppo doesnt really do it for me there either sorry to say but yeah this very much a pers pref thing.

the other factor is denons usually when sold in my country would be region free for DVD, an important requirement for me. the oppo has to be modded etc for both BD/DVD for our region and so ends up costing a lot more here to.

the other player option I am looking at is the pio bd23fd, no idea what its analog side is like. pio are typically region free on dvd here as well and tend to use decent dacs and analog stages in their players too, but something will have to verify with the 23FD. Having owned a pio lx70a before pretty happy wiht the level of quality of the pio players so cant wait to check this one out as well.

teach, one more quick question - if you remove a dvd does it remember where you left off? only my jvc and oppo have this persistent of dvd resume memory.

on the fence on getting this or another oppo...

Still nobody who has tried the multichannel analog section on the 2010CI?
Would really like to get some feedback on it's performance capabilities.
Isn't anybody buying this unit to work in conjunction with higher end non HDMI receivers?

Load Times - bit surprised by the powered off Eject Time...slower than previous denon models.

Anybody else confirm these figures? I know most folks aren't buying this player for load times, but I was hoping for some gap closing with the oppo...

So much for the load time and video processing comparisons. I guess it boils down to looks for some people. (She has a I.Q. of 10, but she sure is fine!) That kinda' comes to mind

I'd rather save $200 and buy the superior Oppo player. Frankly, I don't care what other people think it looks like. It's a piece of audio/video gear; Not a date for Friday night.

The Denon also lacks zoom on bds, can't force 24fps on dvds, the ability to play sacds, dvdas, and other video files via usb. the Denon should have a better analogue section. Got to say, it's tough for the denon to win on a specs comparison even if prices were equal. Afraid Denon needs to sell these for $400 to compete against the Oppo. Then again, there are a lot of folks who might want a denon to match their receiver/pre-amp.

Well, I have been on the fence with this player and think i have opted to hold tight on replacing my 2500 with it. From what i can gather, what i gain in load times is given up in a longer time waiting for discs to eject. what i might gain in the abt chip is somewhat given up in less of a tank build quality i love of the 2500. persuade me if i am wrong...

If you are using the player for DVDs, you might want to consider it or the Oppo. If you are just going to watch Blu-rays, I would agree with you.
