Selling Advice Needed - Used Benq PB6100

I have just upgraded to an Infocus X9 (love it!) from my five year-old BenQ PB6100. I want to sell the PB6100 while it still has some life left in it. It has about 970 hours on the bulb and still has a decent picture, though it seems to be dimming after five years of use (it doesn't owe me much I guess)...

What I need is some selling advice for this projector, along with a 66" manual Draper pull down screen. As with most people, I want to get as much $$$ for
my projector/screen combination. I am aware that I can't have too high of an asking price, considering that you could buy a new model with similar specs as my used unit for $500-600... a new bulb would cost $350-$400, which is near the cost of a new unit...

1. I haven't sold on eBay before (though I have bought off it numerous occasions), but I'm tempted to give it a try. Advice on this path?

2. I could sell it locally on www.usedregina.com or www.kijiji.ca... Advice on this route?

3. Any other suggestions?

I looked for posts on this subject on this forum, but I couldn't find anything...

I didn't know one could sell on this forum... how? what about videogon.com?

Check the classified thread on this forum it is all there. Google videogon and it is pretty self explanatory. I believe you have to be members on both sites to sell items. Good luck

I might be able to sell my projector this way, but what about my screen?

i would definately try Kijiji...the only thing i havent sold on Kijiji is my wife and 3 kids :P

You can try here as other have said , and Audiogon.com you can also try Craiglist but prepare yourself for allot BS. My last choice would be Ebay, just too many folks posting, and not really specialize on what you're selling so you aren't going to get the most dollar on your projector or screen.

My friend did sell his Sony pearl on ebay, but never sold his screen, which he was practically giving away.

Good luck

Yeah, I vote for Kijiji as well. I just picked up an X9 too and I'll be putting up my IF4805 on Kijiji sometime soon. Selling it locally just takes a lot of hassle out of the transaction.

Anyone have suggestions on what to include in the ad for a Kijiji/usedregina.com posting? What are the do's and don'ts?

The problem with local sites is that they generally have very few items of one particular genre. Kijiji's Regina site and UsedRegina have only 3 projectors total on the two sites, and one of them is grossly overpriced. If I was purchasing, the first place I'd turn to would be ebay. And yes, I'd be looking for a deal, so I'd hope that the price was going to be low.

What many people do is sell on ebay and local sites at the same time. A/V sites are also a good choice. But the bottom line is that if you really want to unload something, ebay is the place.

I haven't sold on eBay before... can one set an asking price and not have to take the chance of settling for a low auction final price?

I would like to sell the screen and projector as a set/combo... shipping might be pretty steep to ship both, wouldn't it? Wouldn't this scare off most buyers?

Use the "Buy it Now" option for a set price. Yes, the addition of the screen might raise the shipping too high and scare some customers off. But you really have little to lose. With ebay, you're selling to a market of millions instead of thousands with a local site. And if you don't get your price, you're only out a couple of bucks.

Howitzer17, I sell tons of stuff all the time (never on ebay yet though). The BEST advice I can give you is get the ad (or ADS) on ASAP. The longer you wait the less visibility you have from the public. Post everywhere on the free sites, maybe wait a week or so, then you might wanna move it over to ebay. DONT wait though

www.canuckaudiomart.com as well, free. Kijiki also works well.

You also might look around on Kijiki for places that re-lamp.

Do NOT sell locally. You don't want someone keying your car when the power caps blow on this sucker and they're stuck with a useless hunk of projector. I'm only half kidding; around 1000 hours was the EOL for my BP6100. See this thread for others with similar experiences. Consider any money you get for the projector to be better than owning a boat anchor. I sold a projector on eBay once and consider it to be hassle free (versus having to show locally).

Oh, and be realistic on price. A new Viewsonic XGA DLP (PJ557D) projector can be had for less than $500 and Viewsonic is currently running their free bulb offer. Keep in mind that this is your competition. (superior PJ resolution with second bulb). If you're lucky you could get $300, but $200 is probably more realistic.

I was thinking about $300 for both the projector and screen (or $200 for just the projector)... comments?

Who pays for the shipping?

AVS Classifieds or Videogon. These are the only places I would trust to buy a used PJ.
