Energy Take 5 a decent upgrade over HT-S5100 standard speakers?

I have an Onkyo HT-S5100 system right now that I'm only using as a 5.1 surround.

I know the speakers included in the htib aren't very high quality. Someone locally is selling a very lightly used Take5 Classic system and I'm wondering if it'd be worth upgrading.

(I've specifically been underwhelmed with the Onkyo speakers at low volume levels, they seem to do well at mid to upper volume levels).

Basically, is this change something that my wife will be able to notice? Or is all of the debate over speaker quality only something that audiophiles can hear and for my daily TV watching (Cable TV HD stations mostly, occasional DVD's) will this be a waste?

I have some random junk that I can probably offload on craigslist for enough dough to buy the speakers. Then if they're good I can probably sell the Onkyo speakers (all 7) for a decent amount.

Has anyone done this upgrade? Opinions?

The Energy speakers are probably better but I'm not sure it would be a significant upgrade. If you have a large room I think you might run into a similar problem as they are still quite small speakers. How big is your room and how much do you want to spend?

You might be able to get away with just getting better front left, center, and right speakers for the time being to improve the sound.

The room is 18' x 28' with vaulted ceilings. TV and seating are arranged across the short side.

Yeah, that's a pretty big room for the little Takes to fill - or the Onkyo speakers. You won't be happy with the upgrade.

Maybe think about a budget and ask the guys in the speaker section for recommendations for left, center, and right - if you're interested in that idea. It doesn't have anything to do with audiophiles arguing about sound differences, it has more to do with finding the appropriate speaker for your room.

Question here....
I have (3) Energy Take 5 LCR's, and (2) Take 5 Sat's (plus a velodyne DLS-3500R sub). I'm upgrading to bigger speakers, but I have no idea what this system is worth now...I paid close to $1300 for the whole shubang.....any 'ballpark' ideas???

Do you have a picture of the speakers because people get the Take 5, Take Classics and Take LCR's mixed up.

I've never heard of a Take 5 LCR.

There are 3 TAKE LCR's, and 2 TAKE SAT's......plus a DLS-3500R Velodyne Sub. I'm seeing prices on ebay for over $800 just for the Energy's (without any sub).....
