How much do you want to spend?

I would recommend sticking with plasmas. If you want a larger size, the best choice would be a Pioneer Elite PRO-151FD while you can still get them. Otherwise, I would recommend Panasonic as next best. If you do go the LCD route, I would recommend the Sony XBR's, especially the LED-backlit XBR8 models.

not really worried about pricing

Hearing really good things in regards to the Panasonic "V" panels. Pioneer is not making any more plasmas after this year I believe so I would factor that into my purchase, pq or no pq. Then we have Samsung, the best bang for the buck out here right now. I went shopping for a Panny and walked out with a Samsung 58B560 for under 2 grand. But this was before the Panasonic "V" panels hit, which I have yet to see.

Get out there and look, let your own eyes decide.

Then get an LCD LED TV.

Pros: plasma like but brighter

Cons:

viewing angle
risk of new technology

Then probably the best TV out there with minor tweaks to taste in color is:

Sony Bravia XBR KDL-55XBR8 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Triluminos LED LCD HDTV

If price is no object, I would agree with the LED set. I have one, Sammy 40B6000. It makes me a bit sea sick for extended viewing, but the more I watch it the more I like it. Awesome pq.

I'm sorry but im going to have to disagree with both of you! lcd in general is terriable quality and if hes coming from plasma hes going to visabliy see the flaws. why seattle for lcd if you can take plasma? if price is not an issue then get a pioneer elite plasma. its been proven to be thes BEST FLAT PANEL

activate the isfccc modes and get bes tof both worlds, accuracy of plasma and brightness of lcd WITHOUT cliping whites or crushing blacks.

nothing is better then a pioneer elite plasma asuming we are speaking under the $10k range

Many on the items you quote are for old CCFL LCDs. The backlit LCD are a completely different type of pq.

LCDs are not that bad, I own a few along with a Plasma. I think anything the op buys will be an improvement over his current set. If this is going to be the only set in the house, I would go plasma, especially if the op likes to watch sports. If not a big sports fan, an LED/LCD would be really nice, still an upgrade from what the op currently owns.

To the op, get out there and shop.

Amen. IMHO you want to get a physically large TV bang for buck in terms of size, its plasma then. Shop, save the economy!

^^^

either way plasma is 99% of the time a better choice, unless are going to put it outside of the house or have a house that has almost everything in windows or those 8ft window celings

lcd has improved but its still not as good as plasma when it comes to picture quality period, im not trying to start a lcd vs plasma war its just proven fact backlighting just adds more issues like zone lighting blooming and blacks are just blacks but shadow detail gets hurt as well. led based lcd are also issues as they dont have array/ front led lcd have issues with shadow detail

well too much to list but lcd still has more issues to work with as where plasma is not as visable with all the overall issues/flaws as lcd is.

and to top things off its even cheaper in price then lcd!!!

so one must be really stup*d or meet the requirements bellow

outside tv

house full of windows or such as 8ft window that gets alot of ambient lighting.

otherwise plasma still a better choice
