Disney's Ponyo Website with 1080p/720p/480p trailers.

Looks amazing. Co-Produced by John Lasseter of Pixar, so you just know the animation is amazing.

Not excited that if I want to see this in the theaters (Aug 14th) I'm forced to hear it with the damn English dub (stop doing this animation studios!!!). For this reason alone I might just wait for it to be released on Blu, but since it's Disney, who knows if and when they'll ever release it over here (bastards).

Disney distributed both dubbed and subtitled theatrical prints for Miyazaki's last two movies.

Yes, but you had to search far and wide for the subbed version (as if it won't be hard enough finding the dubbed one).

Trailer 2 is out:

1080p
720p
480p

You can tell they're going out of their way here to "Westernize" this one. They're shooting for mass popularity with this (if such a thing is possible).

Thx, I might have missed that.

Currently 95% on Rottentomatoes and Roger Ebert gave it 4-stars! (he rarely ever goes over 3 1/2).

I know this is a good film, but I really don't want to see it with the dub. I pray Disney releases it in the US on Blu with the original language track.

Can't wait.

I've liked pretty much all of the Miyazaki movies I've seen, but I'll be honest that the trailers for this one are really putting me off seeing it in theaters. It looks to be aimed at a very young audience, even more so than some of his early films (Totoro, Kiki, etc.). The dubbing doesn't help either. I will have to wait for Blu-ray.

It's for children, it's true. But it's very beautiful, and some of the scenes (driving back to the house during the typhoon) are quite thrilling. Like many of Miyazaki's films, the parts are better than the sum of the parts. Still, better than just about any other animated films out there.

The R2 and R3 dvds have been out for awhile now. It was worth the blind buy for me. I will probably get the BD when it's released.

Received my Japanese disc of "Gake no ue no Ponyo" (Ponyo on the Cliff - International: English title; Ponyo - USA title) and watched it Saturday night. What a wonderfully delightful film this is, one of the best even though it is much simpler, plot wise, than most of Hayao Miyazaki's animated films. This in no way detracts from the enjoyment of watching this little gem. If you have young children I'm sure they will love 'Ponyo'.

The art work (no CGI) is amazing and the soundtrack is perfect (at least on the Japanese version). For me the only way to watch this is with the original language sound track with English subtitles. After watching the movie I went on line to view the 'Americanized' trailers with the 'Disney Duo' English dub and that just re-enforced what I knew all ready, the dubbed version is inferior!

The theme song '"Gake no ue no Ponyo" isn't played until the very end when the credits are rolling but it's a perfect ending to a great movie. The original version of "Gake no ue no Ponyo" caps off the film perfectly. For me the 'Americanized' version of "Gake no ue no Ponyo", with it's use of 'Autotune', Rock beat and a dose of Rap thrown in sounds too much like a Saturday morning cartoon show and ruins the ending of the movie.

Highly Recommended! Especially in it's original language.

I will also buy the BD when it becomes available.
