I meant to mention that you can even get mouse control from your navigation pad of your harmony. Take a look at This Forum Post at Logitech.

Edit: This was supposed to be an edit to my previous post but I got into the quick reply edit box somehow. Apologies.

Shss I got it working for now. Sound & video through hdmi in windows 7. I had to reinstall win 7 64 and after startup I had to go through the vga to load drivers in this order
1st
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_wi...it_197.13.html video
2nd http://www.nvidia.com/object/hdmi_au....00.00.59.html sound.
I haven't loaded anything else except hdhomerun drivers I must say hdmi video and sound is better than vga and optical. I was trying to convince myself that the latter was good enough. And what I was told from asrock tech is bogus. They said unless I had my tv setup for 1080 hdmi wouldn't work. I began to be suspicious when it loaded in linux.

I just did the first win 7 update and it also said there was a nvidia update which I chose not to do. The win 7 update went smooth and I still have sound and video. Now I ordered a sony slim blu-ray drive for it and when it comes lets hope all goes well. I didn't get the asrock 330 bd because I didn't want to spend that much up front as it goes I got 2 extra gigs of memory and the blu ray drive for less (not actually $13 more but extra memory) than it would have cost to do it all at once (asrock 330ht $419 4 gig memory $84 sony blu-ray $70 total $573) cost for an asrock 330 bd $560 but only 2 gig of memory and I still have 2 gig mem for something else.
Scottss, are you going from your Asrock to your Denon then to your Sony?

First wave 330, no HT no BD no Pro.

My Rotel RSP 1068 accepts digital audio for the main room but analog to route it through the "zone" out (pre-aplified signal to other rooms in the house where I have local little amplis with local volume control or where I use TV sets as amplifiers).

I'm planning to use my 330 as the media server of the house but, for the reason explained above, I need to have the audio coming out from both the spdif out and the analog out.

I asked Asrock support and this is their answer (dec 2009):

Sorry for the inconvenient. This is due to the Windows system operation setting.
Under Windows system could only choose one output in the Control Panel, Sound option or the system Aduio Mixer.

For me (I'm not an expert, though) it's a driver limitation. In fact, in all my desktops I have Terratec audio cards that let me have audio from many outputs at once, digital and analog.
Does anybody know anything about it, please?

Thanks for listening.

I have found references to a firmware update from Sony, but it wont install. Eventhough I'm using the correct one for my OS (win7 32-bit).

I really don't want to have to buy a new drive but I'm starting to think that's my only option.

Anyone knows anything about this problem? I'm experiencing the VERY SAME issue, I got three original titles and none of them will play (I tried PowerDVD10, WinDVD BD, Nero9Reloaded, ArcSoft TMT3) saying that my drive can't play the contents of the disk... UNLESS I load AnyDVD-HD

I don't want to keep using AnyDVD-HD to break the disk protection in order to play, I just want to fix this damn issue Same hardware, Sony Optiarc 5500S4.. can't upgrade firmware too, probably because I dont have a Sony laptop..

If it's only the crippled version they provided, you're going to be forced to upgrade and pay for the upgrade if you don't have a key. That's why I'm using WinDVD since only the full patched version would work and I don't like PDVD.

I've played a couple of BDs partially yesterday since I just got it and they play fine with WinDVD + AnyDVD HD. Still in testing mode and looking for hiccups, you may want to update the firmware for your BD drive

Seems like the above user has the same issue.. anyone knows anything about WHY a BD drive would only play blu-ray disks when AnyDVD is loaded?
@danielponte

I've used the ASRock ION 330HT/BD for a few months now, it comes bundled with the BD drive mentioned. I don't have any objections to using AnyDVD HD to make everything work, since that's the main reason a lot of people buy the software in the first place and many consider it indispensable if you want trouble free playback of BD discs.

You'll be surprised at the number of new released movies that don't play without an update from the software player you use, in that case AnyDVD HD is updated fairly often, many times before the S/W player does it and allowing you to enjoy the movie instead of waiting for an update. For this practical reason alone is worth it, I put a high value on my free time and I rather enjoy it than trying to figure out why the movie isn't playing.

Thanks zzy,

I'm pretty much sure it's a firmware issue, but I'd need a friend with a Sony laptop in order to upgrade this damn thing

Until then.. AnyDVD HD for sure.

Thanks again.

Where did you find the Blu-Ray drive for $70? Is it a slim drive?

I have Asrock 330HT-BD (4GB Ram) and I have sync problems in video playback with my Pioneer Kuro and MPC-HC with coreavcpro 2.0

To be more specific, I have sync problems while playing video (mkv) in 23.976 hz
In display stats , the two lines (red-green) are almost parallels but time to time I have peaks in both lines which means that picture is shuttering. Furthemore, the green line moves up and up very-very slowly and when it touches the blue line then it goes down again and meet the red line and it starts all over again. The red line is always stable.
I’m using MPC-HC 1.3.1769 version with Autochange feature. Even If I use reclock I have the same problem.
During playback at 23.976 I have checked the output of graphic card (through Nvidia control panel), it has changed at 23hz which means that Autochange feature works fine.

I have the previous version Nvidia ION drivers dated Jan 11th 2010.

When the video is at 24,000 or 25,000 hz the playback is very smooth , the lines are completely parallels, NO PEAKS at all, both lines are stable. The problem exists only at 23.976 hz playback.

Do you have any idea what setting might be wrong?

Hi, I've got an ASRock ION 330 with SPDIF to a Yamaha RX-V565. I'm using SPDIF because I couldnt get DTS and Dolby Digital working in XBMC (Win7 x86) with HDMI, so I have spdif to the Receiver and HDMI straight to the TV. Now the surround works fine using spdif in movies.

But if i try to play music with XBMC or even with WMP it only plays in the front 2 speakers, not even the sub works. The receiver is on PCM when I'm playing music and if i look at info it says its 2.0 channel. Wondering if anyone knows how to get it to play music with at least 2.1?? Or possibly getting 5.1 dts and dobly digital working over HDMI in XBMC??
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, but how can I enable the internal dxva codec?

I remind you that Atom CANNOT handle mkv 1080p without external decoder.

i mean dxva with mpc decoder

using evr, evr-cp or sync ?

As you see at the attached photo at post #220, I'm using evr custom sync. I have the same results with Evr Sync as well.

Very strange.....

Does anyone have a suggestion regarding a solution for this problem? I have an Ion 330-HT (Windows 7 64 bit - WMC) to the TV via HDMI and the spdif to my receiver. In order to same room, I dumped my old DVD player and instead use the ION 330 for all DVD's. 90% of the time my wife and I prefer the audio coming out of the TV for all uses other than DVD's. However, for DVD's we prefer the DTS via spdif directly to the receiver. I seem to be stuck selecting either the HDMI audio or the spdif audio in the Windows audio control panel (not an elegant solution). Any ideas to get both working at the same time if it is evan possible? I have searched the web for hours with no luck. Although not ideal, I would even be happy with an external USB solution.

Thanks.

I decided to upgrade my ION 330-HT to 4GB. Wanting to make sure I ordered the right memory, I went to the ASRock website, hit the Memory QVL link, and found (what I thought was) the QVL for the Ion 330: Intel Socket 437 (Atom) / NVIDIA MCP7A-ION / A330ION.

I ordered memory off the A330ION list (Kingston DDR3 KVR1333D3N9/2G). I thought it was odd that the A330ION QVL listed all DDR3 memory considering the specs from the ION 330HT says supports DDR2 800Mhz, SO-DIMMs (it should have been a red flag that none of the memory on the QVL listed DDR2 SO-DIMM's, but it was late at night).

Needless to say, my brand new freshly arrived DDR3 DIMM's don't fit into the ION's SO-DIMM slots. I am ready to return and reorder. Not wanting to make a second mistake, my problem now is what do I order? I would prefer to only order manfacturer recommended RAM, but I can't find the official memory recommendations from ASRock. I did find the QVL for the Intel Socket 945GC / A330GC which lists DDR2 memory, but I am hesitant to rely on that list because to me "A330GC" seems less like Ion 330 than "A330ION". Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Following up on my post, I heard back from Asrock support regarding recommended memory for my ION 330HT. I am very pleased with their quick response:

Hi,

You can purchase the following memory kits.

I searched this thread and did not get a hit on overscan...so please don't pummel me if I didn't phrase my search correctly. When I connect my ASRock ION 330HT to my 55" LG TV...I get overscan to the point that I cannot fully see my Windows 7 desktop. I know there is a way to re-size the desktop in the video driver...does that change the resolution? I was under the impression that it did for some reason. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Changing your overscan settings do not change the resolution. You also might want to check and see how your TV's input is defined, I think LG's should be set to "just scan"???

I should probably mention that I am switching all this through my Onkyo receiver...that should just be acting as a pass through right? Guess I need to check the manual on the receiver as well to be sure.

Thanks for the reply...

So I got my Asrock 330 Pro yesterday and have been tinkering around with it, as I was really excited to get it and get rid of my AppleTV.

I have a stock 330 Pro w/2gb RAM, OC'd to 2.1ghz. It is connected to my Samsung LN52A750 via HDMI and will be connected via SPDIF to my Onkyo receiver eventually as well (ran out of HDMI ports on it).

I am having quite a few issues with video playback that I am hoping to get some help with. I installed Win7 Ultimate 64-bit, ran all Windows updates, then downloaded the Nvidia drivers from their site (chipset, driver, HD audio), installed Silverlight and the latest Flash beta 10.1 RC4.

After some reading it seemed like lowering my resolution down from 1920 x 1080 to 1280 x 768 alleviated a lot of peoples problems. However for me, this forced my computer to drop to 24hz refresh from the 60hz it was on. Now if I try to put it back to 60hz, Nvidia will force Windows to medium 16-bit graphics (obviously not what I need).

Now, playing back my media files through Boxee beta works just fine (MKV files, 720p or 1080p). However, when trying to play Hulu, Netflix, etc. I get choppy video. Using Hulu desktop, full buffer, high quality, full screen it is just very choppy. I checked and CPU is only at 18% or so and memory is about 800mb+ free.

I have tried re-installing Windows 3 times now thinking it was some step I messed up but I can't seem to get this working. Can anyone help me out here? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm thinking about getting an Asrock ION 330 to replace an old PC I'm currently using for my media PC. It's main use will be music and photos rather than video so I don't need the version with the BlueRay. Anyway, I have two questions:

1. Am I right in thinking the only difference between the HT and Pro is the wireless built-in and the remote come with the HT but not the Pro?
EDIT: Seems like I have found the answer and this is correct.

2. Really the reason for my post. Mine would be in a closet, not out in the open. I have read some concerns about the cooling. Is anyone running inside a cabinet or closet?
EDIT: It would be in the closet with other av components (receiver etc). Their spec page says it can withstand ambient temps of 40C (104F). Do you guys agree? How much heat does this unit generate on its own?

Thanks.

I got one of these last week, have installed it on my boat with a BenQ 22" full HD monitor.

I have only one gripe: the IR receiver is not a standard eHome device so it works with 7MC but not with the integrated TMT player.

Anyone have a source for a really tiny black colored MCE IR receiver?

Anyone have issues with the 7.1 surround back and surround side channels being swapped? I'm running on Win 7 Pro, with the latest ION drivers from Nvidia. I am connecting the HDMI out through my Denon 4306 receiver. I have enabled 7.1 in the windows speaker set up through the control panel, but when I run the test the rear(back) surrounds are swapped with the side surrounds. In case you might suggest it, this isn't a new home theater set up, the 7.1 wiring has been verified correct, this is only showing up on the Asrock ION330 box. When I switch to 5.1 it uses the correct side surrounds. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Yesterday I received my new AsRock 330, I first went into the BIOs to see about turning down my fan speed and to my surprise the Temps for the Cores were in the low 70'sC and the GPU was 56C. I left the fan speed in performace and loaded WIN7 and speedfan which gave me readings I can't trust, saying i had 4 cores and none were above 32C. Are these Temps for the CPU Way to high? I read onlline 125C was the max, but starting COLD in the BIO's with reading in the low 70'sC is really High I would think. Should I send this computer back?

Thank you for your input

I just ordered the Asrock ION330HT/B/W7HP and it should be here this week. I also ordered a 2TB Samsung F3 drive and case to be connected via eSata. However, after ordering I read somewhere that the Linux version of XBMC (and XBMC Live) cannot connect to eSata disks. Is this correct? Now I have to start learning all about XBMC and how to get it setup. I currently have a WDTV Live Plus directly connected to a Drobo with all my files, and I plan top move the Drobo to my iMac as backup and use the new drive with XBMC on the new box. All of my dvds are now in video_ts folders, but XBMC does not handle this well for tv shows, so I plan to convert only the tv shows to mkv files named for each episode. Initially I will install XBMC Live to a USB stick to try things out.

Hi all, I'm interested in this nettop. I'll use it only for playback of dvd, bluray, 1:1 bluray rips and mkv files, plus some BR ripping activity. Spdif to dd/dts decoder and VGA to CRT projector (576p for dvd and 1080i for everything else). OS is not important, as long as I can use gpu acceleration and some filters: the idea is to have 100 or 200hz (50hz x2 or x4) for dvd and 95.904hz (23.976 x4).
Will the VGA out allow this? Should I prepare for some problems?

Thank you, bye!
