Best AVR Receiver or Use with PS3 and Panasonic 54" G10

Hi all,

I am in the process of putting together my first home theatre set-up and am totally out of my element. I own a PS3 and have already ordered the Panasonic 54" G10. I am planning on getting JBL 5.1 speaker set-up (2-L830, 2-L820, 1-LC1, 1-E250P) and the most confusing part of the whole thing to me is the AVR receiver. I have already purchased 2 HDTV's in the past and have done a ton of research on that so I'm confident in that purchase, the rest i'm looking for help. I was looking at the Harmon Kardon HK354 and the Denon 989 based on the research i could understand.

I was hoping not to spend more than $1,200 or so and just want to be sure that the PS3 and TV both work well with whatever i get.

I am also having a mulit-room controller put in from Russound, the CA4, not sure if that affects anything.

If you don't need many HDMI inputs, and you don't need 7.1, that opens up the field a lot.

Look at discounted RX-V1800/RX-V3800 if you can find them, and are willing to pay a bit more than you have to for a better power section. In fact, I am not supposed to mention price, but I found a 3800 cheaper than an 1800 on a popular shopping site.

I own the 3900 and like it a lot, which is why I make this suggestion. There are many great receivers out there though.

I hate to keep popping up with numbers, but 103W over 5 channels isn't super-great. The Pioneer Elite SC-05/07 or the higher-end Onkyos easily overpower that...

edit -- if you can spend $1200 I'd at least spend the $700 to get the SC-05 on clearance.

i went with the onkyo 607 paired eith the energy take 5 and the energy s10 sub. My ps3 never sounded better

I don't think you could go wrong with either the Onkyo 607 or the Pioneer 1019. Both are a good midrange price and both have excellent sound quality according to various reviews!

Meh. It's enough, IMO.

I don't disagree that some receivers do better with all channels driven though.
