Recording from Tivo

Thread Starter
I have a Sony DVD recorder and recently I tried to burn some movies I recorded on my DirecTV to DVD. When I started the recording process, about 10 seconds in the DVD recorded came up with a message saying that I cannot record copy protected movies. I am a teacher and want to record these films for my summer school students. Is there any way that i can bypass the system and record these movies to DVD?

It would help if you mentioned the model number. Newer models are reported to have that problem but I've not had such problems with older models like the GX300, GX315 and GX330.

Sony DVD recorders are reported to be very sensitive to content protection mechanisms. Many have reported that they are so sensitive, they have many "false positives" in their operation, making htem nearly useless. You can try to make them work with a filter of some kind that removes any CP in the video stream, but that isn;t guaranteed to work. Many people where will likely tell you to get a different recorder that isn't hyper sensitive to anything in the video stream. There are many threads about that here and a quick search should bring up lots of information on the topic.
