sweetest would be quiat a subjective term.

i have the sweetest setup of anyone i know personally, online here, the big dogs make me feel like a small pup.

Well, I don't think my set up is very special. But I am happy with it so far. I have been building it piece by piece for the last six months now. It's taken some time because a lot of the furniture was custom. My next goal is to get a decent sound system to go with my TV. I also plan to do more work to clean up the cables

I hope you had an extra amp somewhere to drive those VR series speakers. I had a full 5.1 setup of BAs (Well, the sub was a 600W Klipsch) and I know the Sony ES receiver couldn't even touch the top end power the VRs could put out.

Certainly makes me miss my old setup. Living in apartments is not conductive to having a very nice SS setup.

You also should know that you need some acoustic treatment on your bare walls.

Overkill? What does that mean?

In all seriousness, no. The size, sensitivity, displacement, distance, etc. all add up to my sound system not having to break a sweat even when listening at reference levels - that equates to extremely low distortion. I hear it as it was meant to be heard.

I think a lot of people severely underestimate what it takes to be able to play a modern day soundtrack without compression, clipping, high distortion, or other degredations......when they attempt to tackle the infrasonic stuff, it makes it that much harder. A single 10-12" subwoofer with a plate amp just can't cut it. But I'm a nut, so who knows

Haha true, just like the theatre...Room looks great, can't really get a good look at how big the room actually is from the pics but one things for sure the sound must be crazy.

Their shape is not critical and foam is not very effective but avoiding treatments makes major investments in equipment foolish. IMHO.

No, I don't see why that would hurt speakers. The less excursion the drivers need to use the better. I watch movies between -10 and -20 depending on the movie and my mood. Music levels are a mixed bag. My hearing is quite good, I get it tested once a year.


Actually a room this size does need 7.1 - look where the side surrounds are - that leaves a big gap of sound behind the sofa. There's about a foot seperation between the rear surrounds.....while not ideal, they still perform admirably. The height doesn't concern me too much, as rear surrounds are meant to produce fairly ambient sounds anyway. The "surround" in my surround sound system works well.

Agreed. I used 8" thick fiberglass batting against hardboard and covered it with a couple sheets of rigid, resin coated polyester fabric. The fabric was white, so I left it as is.


The other side of the room is attached. It's not a large dedicated theater room, it's an average sized living room.

The speakers dwarf the LCD. With this set up the speakers make a big screen tv look like a computer monitor...lol.

Do you get off on trying to make someone else feel inadequate? It's his house, and he likes it. Let a guy enjoy it.

I have a 7.1 setup in my room and it isn't very large but it absolutley made a difference in the effect of the surround material. There is no such thing as overkill it's called endless headroom........

I agree. I used to work in the industry and have seen some crazy setups, but this is a overkill!! To each their own i guess. IMO what makes a system attractive is that not only does it need to sound good but it needs to look good in a room too. Honestly, stevecallas, i dont think those towers can keep up with those subwoofer, yes i have worked with those towers. IMO a more balanced system with those subs would be something like klipsch rf15 the reference series, those rock, but again overkill for your room. No sound deadning in that room is going to get rid off the bouncing waves. I have polk lsi15, lsic for the center and lsi9 for the rears, which i think is a overkill for my space. Can't do 7.1, because 7.1 does need good separation, you cant stack speakers next to each other and expect great surround sound. remember more is not always better (hence a good 2 way system vs and mediocre 3way) Again, just my opinion

Do me a favor u guys with the open racks, next time spend some extra$ for a rack with built-in cable management. The ugly cabling it just bleeeew.
