Hi mig1980, try a different HDMI cable and make sure the BD player has the latest firmware.

I have tried several different cables with the same results. I will check for firmware updates. Is there not a firmware update for the denon that would address this? I have had the receiver since late 2009 and have never checked on running a firmware update.

The Denon firmware updates resolve issues with other BDPs, but AFAIK, there are none with Panasonic BDPs. You can learn more about the updates by reviewing post #2013 in this thread and if you'd like to install it, PM me with a non-gmail email address for the update and instructions.

Would it be a good idea to install it regardless or could it cause other issues?

Installing the firmware shouldn't cause any additional problems.

My 2310 used to display dolby + phII H now it says multi ch in + phII H. I have searched this thread and read batpigs guide a couple times and for the life of me cant figure out what I changed? I could be dreaming but I swear it used to sound better.
Input is Scientific Atlantic cable box from Brighthouse. I have a 7.1 setup with heights, Any suggestions Thanks Jerry
post #6787 of 7011
^^Are using any media player devices, if so did you do any firmware updates to it, or to the tv? This happened to me after I did a firmware update my WD Live HUB. Maybe your S/A box updated something???

Dolby Digital = audio is "bitstreamed" (ie. passed compressed to the AVR)
Mult Ch In = audio is decompressed to PCM by the source and passed to the AVR

Strange though that you're seeing "Mult CH In" from a cable box as generally there's a Dolby ON/OFF setting and when it's OFF, it passes PCM 2.0 and not PCM 5.1, although I'm used to DirecTV boxes.

The bitstreamed audio is often "perceived" as being better quality than the PCM although it's simply a few db louder ... quality is still the same.

If I put cable box on dolby I get no sound, so only choice is hdmi. Says pcm 3.4.1 on avr

Yea Ive done a couple update to WD Live Hub Its turned off when watching cable box. I just turned it on a now it says phLLz + H
post #6791 of 7011
Forgot I had a Google tv after the cable box, maybe thats what does it?
^^And I bet if you stream Netflix (if subscribed) it will show the same. Roll the HUB back to its previous firmware if you want to see 'Dolby D + PLIIz H' again. I know there's a newer version (only MLB update) but the 3.03.16 works best. I know for sure this is caused by the WD HUB because it happened to me when I did fw upgrade.

so... I have a denon 2310ci.... been happy for years...
was playing xbox... Rage I think at the time...
audio started cutting out for a bit then would come back...
then it went away and stayed gone...
now, no audio on any input...frown.gif

did the reset a couple of times... still no audio

any hope left for denon? or does their quality truly suck this bad?

Try blowing some compressed air into the headphone jack or insert/remove a headphone plug a few times.

I have an 890, and for about two years now it has been issue free. But about a week ago I began to loose the volume GUI overlay while watching Directv. I am able to cycle the input and see the 890 reset the scaling back to high def, but when I change the channel the scalling is changed somehow and the GUI overlay dissappers. A note on this, when I enter the 890 menu I do not see the overlay, it cuts back to the older analog interface. I am stumped, have never had this happen, I suppose it could be a issue with the HDMI cable dropping the signal, or could be issues with the direct high def box. ( I did notice the resolution had changed once when cycling the 890 back to sat input). My question is, without reading 6000 posts, has this issue been seen before, where should I be looking as the culprit of my missing GUI and Volume on screen?

the culprit is a recent firmware update to DirecTV boxes. It's been causing this exact issue with all sorts of Denon models (among other issues).

DirecTV pushed a firmware update about 1-2 weeks ago that has caused multiple video connection issues with AVRs in general, although I was under the impression that another update was recently released that resolved that issue. Check to confirm your box has the most current firmeware installed.

Thanks to both you batpig and jdsmoothie. I had a feeling that it was the DTV box. I checked a couple other components and did not hav that same type of switching issue with the GUI. I will try looking for updates to the firmware.... maybe call Directv if need be. AVS fourm is the best BTW.

I got a problem here. I'm getting video but no sound and the on screen menu is all white almost like the static **** you used to see on TV channels that don't exist on old TVs. I tried the factory reset. It didn't do anything. All you can make out is the word "Denon."

did this problem just start recently? any power incidents (thunder storms, blackout, etc) recently? I would unplug it for a few hours and then try the reset a few more times. unfortunately if it doesn't work after a reset it may be a fried HDMI board.

It's probably fried. I swapped some things around today and it did it. I was trying to get a damn powered HDMI splitter to work so I could have it output to both my screens and the damn HDMI Out from the receiver kept coming loose. I use these stupid thick cables that don't have any give. Other devices are fine, but the jacks on the receiver are real loose for some reason. I don't suppose somebody actually makes a receiver with 2 HDMI outputs.

Yes, there are several brands/models to include the Denon 3312CI and new 2313CI and 3313CI.

I liked my Denon, but I'm not looking forward to spending another $900 on a receiver right now. This one actually ran 24/7 for 3 years.

the 3312ci has been selling on closeout pricing for $600 or less. Call up Electronics-Expo and other authorized internet dealers and see if they have any left.

alternately (if you can't find a deal) you can get a refurb 3312ci from Accessories4less.com for $599 with free shipping, A4L is an authorized refurb dealer and you still get a 1-yr warranty (vice the 3-yr warranty on a new model).

Experiencing an intermittent problem with an AVR2310CI. The volume display on the GUI randomly quits displaying on the monitor, then will work again after a while without changing anything.

It is a minor issue but the receiver belongs to my Mom and it drives her bananas!

Any idea what is going on or what to try?

Thanks!

If it's only occurring with a DirecTV box, it's the fault of recent firmware updates to the box, and hopefully will be resolved with a future DirecTV firmware update.

Thank you so much! Yes she has Directv and has only noticed it when using the Satellite. (I didn't know that). She hasn't been watching her BluRay or DVD but will let me know if it occurs elsewhere.

Thanks for the quick answer!
