Logitech Harmony Remote + Denon AVR 1910

Thread Starter
I just purchased a Logitech Harmony remote (the Xbox 360 one so I can use it on my 360) and I'm all done setting it up (works like a charm)....except there's a slight issue.

When I use the "Play Xbox 360" activity button, the Denon powers on, then the TV and then the 360.

The problem with this is that since the 360 is already done booting up before the receiver is done, the receiver only outputs stereo sound, no Dolby Digital. Even when I put a game in, it stays on stereo sound (Dolby PLII Cinema).

Now, if the receiver is already on (let's say I'm watching TV) and I select the "Play Xbox 360" activity, the receiver is already on the correct HDMI input and ready to go before the 360 reaches the main menu, so it outputs Dolby Digital as it should.

From what I have researched, the 5-10 second startup time of the 360 involves a "handshake" with the connected device via HDMI. And during this handshake is when the Dolby Digital signal is established.

But since during a cold boot (i.e. - when the receiver is not on) the 360 powers on faster then the receiver, the handshake is missed and the receiver only picks up a stereo signal from the 360. And the receiver stays on stere, even when a game is inserted (it will pick up Dolby Digital if a movie is inserted however, just not with a game).

So my problem is that on a cold boot, the receiver does not power on fast enough to receive the handshake from the 360 to establish Dolby Digital.

My ultimate question is this:

1.) Is there a known fix for this problem ???
(or a possible solution to try with my Harmony settings.....time delay does not work though)

......If I leave my receiver on all the time (even when not in use/when no sound is being outputted) this problem would be fixed easily. But would leaving a receiver on 24/7 (most of that time there would be no sound/video input/output) be a bad thing?

Well leaving the receiver on all the time solves the problem.

I'd like to figure out a long term fix (if anyone knows of any), otherwise I'm ok with having the receiver on 24/7 (there's no signal going to it when I'm not around, so it doesn't run hot or anything like that).

I do not have a solution for you but I would suggest that you call Logitech tech support. From what I have heard they are great to work with and are usually able to come up with a solution. Good luck.
