3 way splitter question

Thread Starter
I just got a couple of Regal 3 way splitters (5-1000MHz, 120db emi isolation).

In one room, I will use a splitter to feed the signal into a cable modem, a DVD recorder (for analog and QAM cable), and a digital cable box.

In another room, I will use a splitter to feed the signal into a digital cable box, a DVD recorder (for analog and QAM cable), and a VCR.

My question is that the splitters have a single 3.5db output and two 7db outputs. Do certain devices need to be attached to certain outputs, or can any device go anywhere?

Also, it looks like Comcast is using RG6 cable in the house (although I don't know if it is quad or tri or dual shield or what). Can I use RG59 cable from the splitter to any of the devices, or should I just use RG6 everywhere?

I would put the cable modem on the 3.5db leg this will give the upstream (return) signal a little less attenuation.

If your cable runs aren't to long you can use RG-59 but if possible stay with the RG-6.

The way I read his post, he has RG6 going to the outlets.

Absolutely no reason to use RG6 for jumpers from the splitters (or wallplates) to the devices.

For a 10' jumper, the difference between RG6 and RG59 is 0.14dB. Basically, no difference at all.

Also, with RG59 being more flexible and lighter, there is less stress on the mating connector than with RG6.
