Total HT newbie and new 3310 owner needs your help
So I'm a new owner of a 3310 and I've matched it up with NHT Classic 3 mains and the Classic 3C. And I don't feel like I'm getting the right sound out of it.
A little background: I haven't bought a new receiver since I purchased a Denon 10 years ago. And it wasn't a higher end model. I had it setup with some decent, though not amazing speakers.
So I get my 3310, run Audyssey, and fire up a couple different blu-rays. The mains sound pretty good, but the center channel sounds really bad. It's VERY hollow and flat sounding. And not in a "neutral" way like my studio monitors are "neutral." More like they sound as if they are projecting sound from a big can. The voices aren't warm and rich like I expected. Here's my stupid question and I'm completely embarrassed to ask.
Are there bass/mid/treble adjustments on here? I can't find any. Do new receivers rely solely on the room correction/audyssey/ypao? Or are there further calibrations I need to be doing?
I know my speakers could probably stand to get a dedicated amp. But I didn't think that would drastically affect the tone. And I'll also say that my room is a single loft w/13 ft ceilings - which I also know can affect the sound. The third caveat is that the center channel is brand spanking new and it needs break-in time. But is it going to be light years different?
2 channel stereo sounds pretty good. And my surrounds are pretty solid. But the center channel sounds like it's missing some sort of fine-tuned adjustment.
Please please help. If the bass/mid/treble thing is a stupid question - tell me - I can take it.
