Hey everyone! I have had a problem for a while but am just now getting to trying to fix it. Does anyone else notice a different tone for the Center channel when doing the test tone for channel levels? My FL FR RL RR all sound the same with a high pitch static. The Center however has a much lower and duller sound, but about the same volume. I have consistently had issues with the Center channel and sound of dialog. I have tested this with my normal settings, after microprocessor reset, multiple speakers and its always the Center channel. It also seems now that after the latest Microprocessor reset to try to remedy this issue the AVR is now not decoding the signals correctly. Now I get just 2 Channel stereo where I used to get DD, DTS HD-MA, DD TrueHD. All I have done after the latest reset is setup all speakers to small, set crossovers ALL to 80Hz and setup inputs. I avoided Audyssey due to the fact that it has never sounded correct no matter how precise I tested, following all the help on this forum and also on the Audyssey website. I have owned many other "digital" AVRs and never had the Audyssey setup and they have all sounded better with only being able to set Distance, Spkr Size, Crossover Frqcy and Tone. I am not dogging on Audyssey, it is a great technology but it has consistently given me poor results and readings and I personally think that if some of the most advanced AVRs out there that sound great dont have Audyssey, I should be able to manually configure the AVR-3310CI and it sound comparable. Any help for any of you gurus would be much appreciated.

Different speakers will produce the same tone with a different sound as you've seen. So your centre speaker, assuming its a traditional flat speaker vs towers will sound a little different, part of the reason some match their centre to their fronts. If using an spl to match levels, still aim for a balanced volume.

Edit: however if significantly different, not just a change in pitch/tone, there could be a problem with the centre speaker.

this sounds like a bad tweeter in the center channel.

I have used 3 different centers and moved speakers around to different channels with the same result on the center channel. Every time. The center channel, not speaker. My center channel speaker is almost identical to my FL and FR.
Ah, well, ok then. If you tried different speakers and they exhibited the same problem that it's likely to be a defective channel in the receiver itself.

Thats what I'm afraid of. As I said, now after doing the last reset, I can only get 2 Channel sound and NO digital decoding. For the time being, I can deal with the center not being perfect but now I cant even decode any true 5.1 or higher signals. I'm baffled at this state. It seems as though the receiver just took a serious dive. Being 8 months or so out of warranty, I'll see what repair costs will be and go from there. It's not looking good though. Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

If you used a credit card for your purchase, check with your provider, as they may add an additional 3rd year of warranty (Amex will for sure and some MC/Visa will as well).

Hi all,
Finally my old bose system has died. I kind of admit that I am finally rid of the mistake buying that was. So I came upon a supposedly new AVR990 that someone is selling for $450. I am wondering if this is a good enough deal to grab it vs. getting a newer receiver, but which might cost me twice as much. I am thinking of either running Orb Audio cubes with it or going all out and getting two Definitive Technology BP-8060ST (999 each), b/c if you buy these now, you can get free front and rear DT speakers as well. So, what do you think?

My most important, but not necessarily required features are:
4-5 HDMI input ports
network functionality - ability to stream music from a NAS, pandora (I use pandora more than anything), possibly airplay
upscale nonHD from cable to the TV?
Reliability
Ability to control receiver using iPad, iphone or pc?
Skip it. The 3310/990 was a bit of a lemon, most obviously with the near-certain eventual failure of the network card. Plus it doesn't even have MultEQ XT. And you don't get a warranty with that other one; a new model would carry 3-year warranty, have better networking, MultEQ XT etc.

You don't have to spend double that on a new model, all your requirements would be met by a newer 2112ci or 2113ci at the $400-500 range. Another option which I would strongly recommend is this open box 3312CI for only $640 at Vanns clearance section; Vanns is an authorized dealer so you get full 3-year warranty even on an open box. http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/clearance/3/21

I'm having a USB issue I was wondering if anyone has dealt with. I bought a micro USB drive that fits in my 3310 with the front door closed so my music library is basically built in. All the songs on it are in M4A format (I think that's right) but half of the albums say "file format error". I Los have issues where the music will "skip" at random times. Is there a preferred format to have my music in or is there some othe problem I'm missing?
As long as the songs are not copyright protected and stereo 2.0, the 3310CI should be able to play them.

They play in iTunes, windows media player, and my car. Certain albums work in the denon and certain don't. Those that work seem to skip at random times. I've cleared the flash drive and reinstalled to no avail. I've also played them on my computer from the flash drive with no problems.

And the computer was connected how? HDMI?

Computer was connected to nothing. Just saying the files are good and played fine on the computer, even from the flash drive. The denon is what's seems to be having trouble reading them.

I just picked up a used AVR-990. The guy that sold it to me will be covering the cost of replacing the network card. My question is: are the replacement network cards more reliable? Will it last a few years???
This is just anecdotal, but we have heard very few reports of failures on the new version of the network card. Just do your homework (all the info is in this thread) and make sure the part that's installed is the correct (new) version.
Thanks for the quick reply!!! The card is being shipped from Denon (canada) to Bay Bloor Radio. Apparently they only have two left!

Hey guys, new to AVS and a new BIC owner. I just bought a 3.1 setup and am a long ways away before I have the space and permission to run 5.1 or 7.1. My new system, which I am extremely happy with so far, consists of:
PL-76 pair
PL-26
PL-200
Denon 3310-CI (borrowing)

My question is regarding the receiver. I am currently borrowing the Denon from my buddy. It is used but pristine. I may buy the receiver from him, but I'm not sure what price he's going to give me.
Should I buy the 3310 from him and what price do you think is reasonable? If I don't buy the Denon, Is there a decent yamaha, onkyo, denon or other receiver that I could/should get in the $300-500 range? If so, which one? Thanks so much for your input!

You can look about 10 posts up and read my thoughts on the topic. The 3310 is a risky buy because of the potential network card failure, and newer models will have better features, especially a more robust networking package (e.g. the 3310 doesn't have AirPlay or Pandora) and superior MultEQ XT audio calibration.

If your buddy has already replaced the network card with the newer, more reliable version that mitigates things, but considering these refurb prices from Accessories4Less.com for successor models to the 3310:

AVR-3313CI = $799
AVR-3312CI = $669
AVR-3311CI = $549

.... all of which come with a 1-year warranty, I wouldn't pay more than $300-350 for a 3310 with the old network card, and $400-450 for a 3310 with the newer replacement network card.

Looking for some help with my 3310. Recently I'm having a crackling, distorted sound randomly coming through on my front tower. It will happen both watching TV & blu rays so it seems to be receiver related. I tried resetting the receiver and it has not fixed the issue. Anyone had this issue before? I couldn't find anything in searching the thread, but I am struggling with keywords to describe the issue. Also the tower is a powered Def Tech BP 7006 so maybe I'm having issues there?
Try swapping the FL/FR speaker cables. That will confirm whether it's an AVR or speaker issue.
Unplugged the speaker wire and sound continued. Definitely a speaker issue, so I will call Def Tech as I think I'm under warranty.

Meant to post this question here:
Hi all, After a few recent and probably Denon AVR related network glitches on my 3310ci, I thought I'd look into replacing the NIC. MCM Electronics sells one for the 3310ci, 8r1891001200d, for $150.74. Hoverver, that NIC is not currently available and is on back order. MCM also sells the NIC for the 4311ci which is DM860 SUB ASSY AVR4310CI DM860 SUB ASSY AVR4310CI 8R1891001100D for $131.19. This one is currently available and costs a bit less. So, my question to any one in the know is are these parts interchangeable? And could I perhaps use the 4311ci NIC in place of the 3311ci NIC? Thanks for feedback.

Did you try contacting Denon directly? That's how I got my NIC card for my 4310, directly for Denon Parts. good luck. JT

Hi all, the display (Panasonic plasma TH-65PF11) connected to my 3310ci has recently started to have signal glitches. The video will darken (but still be visible) and the big DENON logo will pop up. It comes on at seemingly random times, maybe about once a day or so. In a few minutes it usual goes away on its own. This time I noticed the display in the receiver said "SR007". A web search didn't bring anything up. I was wondering if anyone here might have a clue to what's going on.

IDK if this has happened to anyone else but my 3310 just lost the ability to send video through. I tired 4 different sources and no luck thru hdmi. TV seems fine and the 3310 plays audio to the speakers just not any video. I cycled it on and off a few times and checked all settings and all seems true and correct and I tried a different hdmi on the tv but nothing works. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Try replacing the HDMI cables as well as resetting the microprocessor (p. 103 OM).

Thx JD. Fixed the issue and likely saved me quite a bit of money.
