Have you decided what you are going to do with the original drivers and amps? I saw a little discussion about people trying to acquire additional cabinets, but it sounded pretty iffy.

Yes being the kind of guy I am after the mod anybody looking for a stock new style amp or driver I will sell for dirt cheap. Will have two sets both working great no hums etc. Not looking to make any money maybe help someone out that needs it. Just pay for shipping and whatever you think is fair and they are yours if interested. Looks like warranty claims will go down the drain, least I can do.

Any details on the new driver used for the turbo kit ? In order for it to provide 1.5x the clean output it would have to offer substantially higher linear travel (like an extra inch, at least).

I don't know the details behind the turbo kit as I learned about this new development from another poster. I assume a new amplifier will be required. I surmise that that will be the major break through, not necessarily the driver upgrade.

I'm not going to run out and buy a MFW-15 just to have it upgraded, but it's a nice idea especially if Mark is handling the entire situation.

Yes the kit will use a new modded external amp making it passive this may deter some folks not me. Already have a spot picked for both amps, will actually make it more convenient for me since all the adjustments will be more accessible now. Kevin is in the middle of testing and fine tunning and said ground plane measurements will be posted asap. There is a pic posted of the modded MFW with amp sitting on top at AV123 website, I am getting very excited about this mod as time goes on!

He definitely designed them with Jeff which I think is probably why JTR's got any attention around here.

Correct.

I don't have any of his products but have a set up from JTR which can be somewhat comparable because of his and Jeff's similiar roots and I am sure Seaton could do great things with these subs.

I don't think Mark Seaton has any interesting in bring them out. Mark likes to bring out products that fill a market need that others aren't addressing. None of those really meet his objective. Some of the design concepts from the x-plosive and BMF have found their way into Terraform, Terraform XL, and Submersive 2 though.

Jeff and I have been friends for more than 10 years, and ~4 years ago when JTR was formed I helped with acoustic measurements, a little modeling and some general concept design. For the first triples I helped with the crossover modeling and design with Jeff making all the final design and value choices along with the entire package design. We still do some work together with Jeff helping me on some production process, torture testing and other bits of input. The design evolutions from the early versions progressively moved to be all Jeff's work as had been sharing some tools, fixtures and other resources. With the revisions in the past year, all of the product evolution has been by Jeff as both of us have become increasingly busy. While I had input early on, make no mistake the triples and the Growler are entirely Jeff's products.

Pretty much on the mark. Any related products for Seaton Sound would be done a bit differently, and current resources for growth are focused on a handful of other products. I won't rule anything out, but that's not the direction I'm headed with my efforts for Seaton Sound. I might give it some further thought after I start readily delivering the various products already planned.

Regards,

I'm going to keep comments about the turbo kit to the dedicated forum created for the upgrades I've been working with Kevin of MCCA to supply. That said, you're way off on your guess of what would be required from an improved driver.

Looking back I see the performance claim made (if to be believed) is not that big in either case. What's that, like a 3 dB increase ? Doubling the power alone could take care of that providing the previous driver could sustain it.

He doesn´t have any problem with the sub, he even send the sub befores i pay him to be sure i am getting the sub in flawless condition. Other friends have the MFW-15 and they just report me they have the hum, but removed just by cutting off the ground plug.

Greetings, i could just imagine the parties in medellin with a mfw15. Medellin is my favorite place in the whole world. White boys from usa have no idea!

Thanks man, whatever you want if you´re by this side, you can PM me or something.

Now talking about the MFW it was great, not problembs at all (just the deliver man slip off the sub, he was walking 3 floors upstairs alone , and the fat driver just sit in the truck while the other dude just screw his back)

Yesterday i watched the Dark Knight, and let me tell you this is a really really big imrpovement, my previous sub was the one who comes with the Onkyo HT-S7100, i´m upgrading all my system, my front speakers are the monitor 50, and a CS1 center. Right here from Medellin is very difficult to upgrade because of the import cost.

All of you are invited to Medellin and "La Feria de las Flores" in July-August.

Just spoke to 'Suzanne' at Av123 and was informed that they do have some decent condition Moho Diamonds in stock now, at the sale price.

My brother might order another one.

Although the prices may drop even further.

What do you guys think ?

Who knows on prices, I think the used market will take a hit. I see folks already trying to clear out some of their AV123 speakers but at least for the MFW-15s they are still asking at least the "sale" prices which doesn't seem a good deal for a used speaker that will likely soon become an orphan. I'd consider getting another MFW-15 but only on the used market now and only at fairly decent discount vis-a-vie the recent "sale" prices. It is possible they will have a liquidation sale but frequently those are local cash and carry only (if they bring in a liquidator).

As to your question I'd say that dealing with AV123 has been "high risk" for a while now and this arrest only makes things worse. Unless you are paying cash and picking up in person, I'd avoid dealing with them right now and this is purely from a risk/reward ratio. There may be moral and other considerations but that is really your call. If you do purchase something to ship make sure you do it on a credit card that you know will back you up as you may need it.

Just make sure your shots are up to date and take your own condoms with you. The local ones break are cheaper made and cause leakage.

Well I am not a lawyer but he did spend several days in jail don't you have to be arrested to got to jail? Whether it is an indictment and/or arrest the future of the company is certainly in question.

Also no lawyer but in order to be indicted you need to be arrested first. You can't be indicted in absence most of the time and the fact that he was in jail for a few days does mean he was arrested

Maybe even haggle for a better price over the phone.

True. Didn't think about that one.

My brother has his eyes on the ED A5-350 anyways.

Indictments come no matter if arrested or not. Sometimes you can be indicted then arrested, or indicted and asked to sign a paper then set a court date.

I might try that if there is one close enough to be worth the trip. So far they have been 10+ hours away one way.

Be that as it may, he was arrested, and spent 3-5 days in jail until they lowered his bail from 500,000 to 10 or 20k.
Bail was lowered to 10K and that was met using a bail bondsman as well as him having to turn in his passport. He also had to promise not to say humbly any more.

I think saying humbly should be a red flag. Constantly using a paradox can never be a good thing (it is not humble to describe your actions or words as humble in the form of humbly). But anyway

For those that were looking to add another MFW to their set up - what are you going to do now?

I went with dual Empires. I passed on the Castle a couple of years ago, shipping was killer, and went with the MFWs, mostly based on craigsub's ratings and the reviews it was getting as well as the fact that I could get duals for the price of the Castle. In hindsight I should have just driven the 2 hours to Crystal Lake and picked up the Castle. I actually ordered it and then cancelled. Oh well another lesson learnt.

So last night I was running some tests to see how my current setup was doing and I put in the infamous Pulse HD-DVD for the real low pulsing bass scene. I had it -5dB below reference and I noticed that one of my MFWs was making a scraping sound. It also happened to be the one that I replaced the driver on for the fluttering/flapping that was happening previously. When I push on the driver I can recreate the sound. It sounds like something is rubbing on the cone. I tried the other MFW and it didn't make the same sound until I pushed it much further in. Seems like the bad one doesn't have to be pushed in much to exhibit the scraping sounds. I think I'm going to try replacing it with the old driver and see if that makes a difference. Any ideas what could be causing this? Guess I'll know more when I pull it out and inspect.
